Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

What Microsoft could do is acquire a comic book/manga studio or publisher then do episodic games or visual novels based off of the comic series or manga.

I think its a good fit but people will create a narrative that “this is what game pass will do to games”. I said it before and I will say it again, telltale is a great pick up for netflix in my opinion

:3 (I made this)

Now THIS I can get behind…

Capcom and Square are loaded in my opinion. In terms of potential pick ups they seem like some of the best in my opinion, Square also has games outside of JRPG’s which they are the kings of. Also if they pick up avalanche they can work on future just cause games as they made those games

I dont like Square Enix that much but that is pretty cool. Good work.

Sounds like someone is on the “Just buy WB/Discovery train”

I’d be into this.

I don’t know if Microsoft would be able to get WB/Discovery but any comic publisher would be worth it just for IP that could turn into an episodic game or visual novel. I would also like to see Microsoft to get a manga publisher as well and then that way it could be a way to grow in Japan.

Probably not likely but it’s been a point of discussion recently and DC Comica is under the new umbrella.

I totally missed you said this as well so I’ve ended up replying twice here - but people are already creating their own narratives about the kind of content game pass will lead to and will continue to do so whatever direction Microsoft goes. I don’t think there’s anything to do to avoid that, so it might as well be ignored while Microsoft continues releasing a diverse range of content.

I would replace chrono trigger with other franchise because it has only two games and they are from the 90s, but anyways it looks cool

Also what game does taito produce? I know they have a ton of classic ips but they also make new games?

I wouldn’t mind seeing Xbox acquire deck nine to do the Halo novels. I would love to play those

I want Xbox to acquire Asobo and give them a huge budget for a AAA 3rd person single player game, those guys are talented, A Plague Tale is an amazing game so now imagine what they could do with more resources.

I personally have no problems with releasing content in pieces, but I’d prefer that the game was already finished. Like with tv shows, you get one a week. If l have to get one episode, every three months, I’ll just get bored with that, so it is better to have the game finished and just bring out an episode a week instead.

That all being said, I’m not sure why this topic is in the acquisition thread, but to make it on topic, if MS was to acquire a developer like DontNod and Telltale Games I’d be all for it. Maybe try to acquire the license to Superman while at it too. This way just like Batman got a Telltale game, so too could Superman. You could even play as Clark Kent doing some investigated work and doing an interview at LexCorp or have him interviewing President Luthor.

I agree I also would prefer if the game was already finished but I also like the idea of having new episodes each week or month to look forward to something. Especially in situations like right now where there probably won’t be anything from first party the first half of 2022. So having episodic games could be a way to help spread out the content.

And I probably should have put this in the Xbox partnerships topic but either way I would like Microsoft to acquire someone such as Dontnod or build a studio that could do episodic games just because that would be a great addition for ending the content drought and a way to grow Xbox and gamepass.

And that would be cool to have an episodic Superman game!

Agree, TellTale would have been the perfect fit for any subsciption service. Actually lot’s of games (Solo most of all) are movies, and the only game that are “tv show” are GAAS games. Telltale are the only one who make solo game like “Tv show”. (And we all know that netflix and co need lot of Tv shows to have content every mounth on their catalogue)

But now they should acquire : LCG Entertainment & AdHoc Studio (That’s the studio of former telltale)

I was going between bravely defualt or chrono trigger but chrono trigger is one of the most legendary JRPGs in history so I went for that

they mostly make arcade games like space invaders, bubble bobble, gunsligher and Touhou Spell Bubble

Same, with the amazing work they did on Flight Simulator too I’m sure they are on the table. I’m pretty sure I read before that Asobo just don’t want to sell.

Going back to studios rather than publishers I would like to see Xbox pick up a few that are able to produce Sony style blockbuster narrative games:

  • Giant Sparrow: crated the highly acclaimed What remains of Edith Finch.

  • Remedy: needs no introduction but is most well known for Control.

  • Asobo: created the highly acclaimed Plague Tale.

  • Dontnod: partially owned by Tencent but famous for Life is Strange and Vampyr.

  • Hazelight: Most recently known for It Takes Two (fantastic game) but Josef Fares previously worked on Brothers in his previous studio (Starbreeze).

From publishers it has to be:

  • Rocksteady (WB) - Amazing studio who worked on the Arkham games.

  • CD/Eidos (SE) - Tomb Raider, Guardians of the Galaxy etc.

  • Capcom - Resident Evil and DmC.

  • Ubisoft - AC, Prince of Persia, Immortals Fenyx Rising & FarCry

Microsoft and Remedy’s relationships fell apart and currently Remedy is heading basically towards the same position as Platinum (unlike Platinum they own some IPs though).

See, now we’re talking. If it was me, and I’d design this to suit my own tastes, I’d replace a couple of those JRPGs with the likes of Thief, Guardians of the Galaxy, Kane & Lynch, or even Kingdom Hearts or Dungeon Siege. But even as it stands, that graphic is infinitely more appealing to me than the Sega one posted earlier.

I heard this mentioned on a podcast before (I think Jez Corden?) however I haven’t seen where this information came from.

I know Quantum Break kinda flopped but they released a statement saying they were extremely happy to be working with Microsoft again with regards to CrossfireX.
