Xcloud via the web browser seems to be much better now.
I fired up FH5 on my iPad last night expecting it to be unplayable due to the quick reaction times when at high speed (especially with the controller connected via BT) and the fact that it is running within a browser.
The whole experience felt native and I found myself just absorbed in the game - I was totally blown away.
For me, IQ in quality mode in FH5 looked as you’d expect (that is to say, really good, playing on a 6 inch phone screen)
Performance mode was still good, but obviously a lil lower res. Still, I didn’t notice any macroblocking or artifacting from my small play session to test it out.
Keep in mind it’s using Series S profiles so 1440p output on a 1080p stream looked great in quality mode. Perf mode looks more like 900p-1080p when streamed. But it was more responsive (even tho 30 fps was still responsive surprisingly)
Yeah this is unplayable for me but I wasnt really expecting much on my connection
Tried out SoD2 for the 40 kills, surprisingly the input lag is quite good, easily playable in that regard and the framerate is good but I basically cant see anything due to the artifacts, only time i can actually see something is in the pause menu managed to get the 40 kills but man was that rough, gave me literal headache
Forza 5 was straight up unplayable though, stayed on a black screen for about 2 minutes and then I couldnt get passed the first screen
Our area is getting better internet early next year so hopefully that will be good enough as I could definitely see myself using this if I couldnt actually see what I was doing
How does resolution work for these xcloud? does it automatically force it to be 1080p or depending on your connection will it scale lower if it has to? id happily play in 360p if it helped it work better
So I have dabbled with Xcloud for a while but it was always either on my phone with touch controls, or on my laptop. However, my router is upstairs and I would normally always get 2.4Ghz WiFi which is not optimal.
I have now tested it on my Series X, which uses an Ethernet cable, and played Destiny 2 and first off the picture quality could be better and I feel Xbox needs to increase the bitrate of the stream, but when it came to playing I was very impressed as it comes close to feeling native, at least for that game.
Have tested on both my mobile and the console, and surprisingly, both hold out well. I’m not sure how much I will get out of the console one, bar maybe for doing some of the MS rewards quests, but will use the mobile when I’m out and about or away from home. Pretty good so far.
Yeah I have tested out a few more games and all had minimal lag where I wouldn’t have noticed it if I had not played them previously. Do we know if they upped the bitrate when they enabled 1080p streaming? Because if they had not it would explain the image quality.
How does xCloud run on a newer iPhone these days? Particularly regarding smoothness and input latency. I haven’t tried it in the past few weeks but it didn’t run great on my iPad Air 3rd gen. I want to switch back to iOS for my next phone but xCloud works great on my Android phone and it’d be a bummer to give that up.
