XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

There was a deal for a “limited time” whatever that means…the game was announced as a timed console exclusive.

So as @Opatschi already said there may be a chance that it will come on Xbox this September (if the deal was indeed one year).

The deal will mostly likely be longer than a year. Xbox only just got Bugsnax a few months ago and that was a launch title.

For most of the timed exclusives they say something along the lines of “at least a year”, so “limited time” might mean it was a short contract for this game that they’re no longer under?! I don’t know

I can understand being disappointed when a game skips the platform for whatever reason (I’m still annoyed about FF7R!) but i think one of the worst parts is when people claim that Microsoft arent trying. Very few of us know what behind the scenes talks look like with Microsoft and other companies. Xbox still operates under a budget so for all we know they may get quoted ridiculous prices for ports that make them think “nah its just not worth the outlay”. Just because theyre rich doesn’t mean they’ll sign off on everything regardless.

For years i looked at the Yakuza series as one of those i wished would come to Xbox. Considered buying a PlayStation just to play them because i never thought they’d come but look what ended up happening, we got prettt much the entire series come to the Xbox and you could say the series is currently getting more marketing and stuff from Xbox than PlayStation. Same goes with Persona, that’s finally coming.

Of course they can probably do more. We lament the lack of Final Fantasy, it would be nice if Microsoft took the direct root and partnered up with some japanese developers with the hope of making the next big JRPG (hopefully deals like these are in negotiations). Lost Oddysey and Blue Dragon get mentioned a lot but it perhaps shows where Microsoft have slipped since then as these are still pretty much the only two high profile JRPGS Microsoft have attempted since 06/07. We definitely should have had one or two more since then.

But yeah it’s obvious they are trying and making progress. There’s always room for improvement of the situation as if Microsoft wants the Xbox to be seen as a main console for someone, it can’t afford to keep missing out of games PlayStation are getting, but it does irk me when some gamers just think Xbox are just twiddling their thumbs doing nothing at all to improve the situation when the proof is literally in front of them that isn’t the case

It could be a deal for a shorter period of time, all I know is that it was announced as a timed exclusive. I guess we’ll see in about ~2 months? :man_shrugging:

I personally don’t think it will come to Xbox.

The last we heard was this:

Since then they have confirmed they are happy with sales and have recouped their costs.

Also there was this stating they are working on a new PS5 exclusive:

Kena was a really enjoyable game that clearly had a bunch of talented people working on it that could easily scale up and create AAA experiences.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Sony is currently trying their best to lock them down on their platform.

Same, it would be a sensible acquisition for Sony.

I think Ember Labs will be one of those studios that goes on to do great things.

Too bad they fucked over one of the an OG dev who left and apparently stole his work.

That sucks.

Sony really managed to get several indie exclusives with very impressive visuals and gameplay that is right up my alley. While Xbox went for stuff like The Gunk. I’m not blaming Xbox, they saw the studio that made the Steamworld Dig games, which are very good games, The Gunk just isn’t, not in my book, definitely not up to their standards.

Kena visually and gameplay wise is really the kind of thing I wanted to see on Xbox. Guess we shouldn’t give up just yet.

Win some and lose some I suppose. I would also like to see Xbox have some similar games.

Who knows they may want to stay independent and it could still come to Xbox, I just think it’s unlikely. I felt Kena would have also worked well with Nintendo, but they are very strict on their acquisitions.

I think Xbox are getting better at choosing their timed deals they are just restricting themselves as they also want it on GP! High on Life looks very unique and special.

Oh, could it finally happen?

As an older gamer I hate this prolonged generation talk. It’s a way of moving the goal posts that worked for a couple years but I’m about at my limit of tolerance for it. How many more years are we going to have to hear about PS4 sales numbers of 100 million PlayStations? I’m actually ready for a console refresh soon so I can replace my bedroom Series S with an Xbox with more power and a bigger hard drive or my ugly PS5 with a better looking version. I guess I’m just a relic from a by gone technology era where things moved faster and the status quo was constantly being disrupted.

High on Life looks awesome for sure!

Yeah the GP thing is indeed restricting themselves and it showed during their stream too.

Sony has too many contacts in Japan. Same with Microsoft on the west - like how many former Xbox execs were in Blizzard or other companies, or have the common history (like Xbox and Midway relation via Matt Booty who was the former CEO etc.). A lot of japanese directors are relatively old already and a lot of them came into the industry with Sony. A lot of old ties.

PS5 is in 1m, while XBS is in 200k+. They are closer of course, but not that close yet.

I would not bet on it, considering the reception of the game, relative silence on the port (compare to Xbox time exclusives), it is possible that game is not coming even after a year. Even Bugsnax came out I think almost 2 years later right?

I hear you, but I do believe there is a point there.

I wish that we would stop with cross-generation games but there are so little PS5 and Xbox Series in stock that I reckon it will be quite a while until this happens.

While cross generation is a thing I believe PlayStation will still have the upper hand due to more units in the wild.

Yes overall but gradually Xbox are catching up, I was referring to the recent months sales figures :slightly_smiling_face:.

With regards to the ‘contacts’ there may be some elements there but I still think market share is the biggest factor. At the end of the day regardless of who your contacts are, you aren’t going to miss out of business with one of the largest market shares because it may upset your friend. Therefore if Xbox grows more Devs will come IMO.

It is even more hilarious when they bring some niche titles that don’t even reach 1m in sales as argument that Microsoft is not trying :joy:

Not first person enough :joy: Also games like Tunic and Death’s Door were cool, but they almost immediately went to PS due to short exclusive window so I wonder if they even had any effect on Xbox (DD was not even in Game Pass).

Until PS4 is retired so probably until 2024 potentially.

I think it’s always good to have a mix (I assume you are referring to my comments in the acquisitions thread) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

I just personally feel Xbox are missing those first party third person games which Ubisoft would fix. Most of Sony’s games are already referred to as ‘Ubisoft clones’, why not have the original eh?

I personally picked up Deaths Door on release and the devs mentioned they were happy with sales so hopefully it did ok.

Fable will probably be something like that. I’d like at least one more, personally something like Far Cry or Dying Light, it can be 1st or 3rd person I don’t care. I know many people keep hating on Ubisoft and similar games but formulaic action open-world games serve a purpose. Halo Infinite was kind of something like that bit lite.
