If MS not going after what’s popular or whatever you want to call it means less superhero/star wars stuff, then I’m a-ok with that

Seeing that comic con Marvel line up made me audibly groan, a conveyor belt of generic Disney mediocrity, the less that crap bleeds into gaming the better

They can be very good and popular games but I’m not ready to see superhero games overtake audience expectations as they did with movies, and I’m already seeing signs of that. I’m very glad MS don’t seem to chase it like everyone else seems to, it’s admirable imo :man_shrugging:

Always take Peters comment for his personal preferences

What he means is that MS never have the pulse for what he likes actually

I’m not the biggest Marvel fan in the world but Wakanda Forever looked pretty legit from the trailer and Ryan Coogler is a great director.

Though i agree that the gaming industry doesn’t need to be taken over by Capes the way the movie industry was.

Agree to both points. Wakanda Forever is one of the only movies in that lineup that I have full confidence in.

And they’re coming for TV now too :confused_wat:

This part I’m not so sure about.

Sony has tried getting that “hot” game several times now, and hasn’t succeeded yet.

Aye they have their fp games that sell well, but then they (almost) all eventually fall off in sales/player numbers.

They definitely want that steady revenue, as can be seen with their renewed investment in gaas titles and attempts like destruction all stars. Basically, not every game of theirs sells like Spiderman.

In contrast, while to some MS haven’t yet had their “killer app” yet (to which I disagree, but you know), they do have like half a dozen titles with consistently large player bases and revenue. Titles like Minecraft, sea of thieves, eso, and yes even Halo Infinite, which continues to make them good money even sitting at number 20.

Tldr; “hot” can mean anything lol

So looking forward to the Super-ish / Hero-ish show next… :troll: :face_vomiting:

If only Peter could be deprogrammed, it’s a shame.

Meaning they never go after an IP/franchise that is popular, mainstream and part of pop culture, make it exclusive, make it great and use that to bring in new consumers and gamers.

COD outsells Spider Man, GOW, etc. because it’s on five or so platforms as opposed to one or two. Huge difference. Also, if COD isn’t exclusive to Xbox once contracts are finished, does anyone believe that those who are PlayStation only fans are going to spend hundreds on an Xbox console just to play it on Game Pass when they can just spend $70 instead and stay where they’ve always been?

Spider Man is hot and massively successful. Sony’s first party games sell extremely well and they fall off because they’re not games like Sea of Thieves/State of Decay in which you’re meant to keep playing year after year. They give you a beginning, a middle and an end. Then, move on.

Microsoft hasn’t had their killer app yet in my mind because it’s still just the big three. It’s never anything else. And even if a game becomes popular like Sea of Thieves, let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for Game Pass, do people really think it would have 25m players? I don’t because I don’t see 25m people buying the game.

As for Minecraft and ESO, they’re not exclusive. If they were, the install base would be much smaller. I want to see Microsoft get a massive exclusive game that isn’t the big three and more importantly, is just an excellent one and done game yet will still do massive numbers because it’s excellent and something different.

Hahahaha. Yeah, this isn’t going to happen. lol

Guardians of the Galaxy. That probably the only really good stuff in Marvel, -movies and game.

I think @peter42O just likes single player story driven action games with good graphics and most superhero games are gonna be guaranteed to have that, I’m pretty sure he would like them regardless whether it was a superhero IP or not.

Bingo. Not every game needs to be a live service game or have co-op/MP. I love super hero games because they’re fun, usually great or better and after missing out on Batman Arkham Asylum and City, im not going to make the same mistake twice.

P.S. - Reading what Grubb said about the Black Panther game, everything sounds good thus far.

Not in changing his taste, just in the mindset that Xbox is somehow failing in terms of what games they are making.

I dunno about that when they purposefully skipped out playing great story games like the GOTY Psychonauts 2. So I’m not even sure how to classify the style of games they like.

You’re missing the mark. The mark is casuals, not Playstation only fans. The majority of people that own consoles are not hardcore fans committed to one brand.

A lot of those people don’t switch platforms midway either.

That’s quite ok. But you can’t choose what is popular or hot just based on what you personally prefer. Microsoft have had undisputably popular and “hot” games. If you want to believe it’s because of Game Pass, first of all that doesn’t discount them anyway because GP is a metric, and second of all, Steam numbers and rankings say otherwise.

Maybe I should rephrase what I say even though everyone should be aware of it by now. Xbox perhaps isn’t failing in general but for me, thus far this generation they have been. Was hyped two years ago and for 2022, they’ve simply disappointed me greatly.

Not everyone buys and owns both consoles. So if someone casual or not, already owns a PS5, they may not want to spend $500 on Series X. And sure you can say $300 for Series S but I would think that you would want the better console and not be restricted to digital only. Of course, if someone only plays a few games a year on PS5 like COD and other live service games, they’re not going anywhere anyway because there’s no reason for them to do so.

Fair enough. I would just like to see an amazing game visually, gameplay, story, etc. that isn’t a co-op/MP/live service game. I’m hoping Hellblade 2 explodes!!!
