XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

Yeah it’s unfortunate how to some it appears hard to perceive something as big and popular if it wasn’t to their taste.

I think their games that you’d be into just haven’t released yet :man_shrugging: it’s not a secret they’re not releasing many games anyway and everyone is disappointed about that and this year…

Yeah, I know. It’s just aggravating because it’s not what I was expecting coming into this generation with Xbox Series X as my primary gaming console. Granted, perhaps my expectations were too high. I don’t know.

The generation just getting started - we still have cross-gen games coming out lol.

Not too high, just too specialized and custom to your quirky tastes when you skip out even trying GOTY games.

That is very selective - You are already discarding Fable and Perfect Dark potentially before they even release.

It’s possible, but I thought the general expectation at the start of the gen was that Xbox games were gonna take time to see, specifically the new IP and new games from new studios outside of the big three because that stuff only started in 2018/19.

They should go all in on DC IMO. buy WB as well. dont release those games anywhere but xbox and pc

I feel you Peter. Same boat for me. Kind of reminds me of the ps3 gen where sony didn’t have much at the start but a few years in they had a steady stream of stuff comming. I think xbox will kind ofbe like that. Sony tends to fill gapes with big third party exclusives. xbox doesnt do that which I think is dumb but thats the point of them aquirign so many studios at some point its going to be a game every few months

To be fair I usually understand where you’re coming from and also agree with some of your previous comments, around how Xbox could do with more of those ‘Sony style’ cinematic action adventure / Ubisoft clone style games.

Ninja Theory is an amazing studio but one isn’t enough. Yes they allegedly have more of these games in development, but it is time they show us fans (of these genres) that they do ‘officially’ exist and what they look like.

I do feel if Xbox picked up Ubisoft and Crystal Dynamics that this long end argument on Xbox would be dead in the water.

The issue is stating Xbox is not jumping on what it hot or popular is clearly false when they own / will own the biggest IP’s in the world.

I bet PlayStation dream of owning IP like Minecraft, Call of Duty, Halo, Diablo, Fallout, Starfield & WoW.

I never quite understood discounting a game as a “single player” game just because it also happens to have MP/co-op. Does anyone apply to that Last of Us / Uncharted / Red Dead Redemption for example?! Those are some of the prestige single player games that also had mp/co-op and mtx in them :man_shrugging:

100% - Halo Infinite is one of the best single player campaigns I have played in a long time, can’t wait to play it in co-op when it’s released.

I’m also really enjoying Far Cry 6 in single player at the moment (which has co-op).

Gears 5 came out years ago. And more recently of course Halo Infinite.

Just because a game has MP, doesn’t mean it can’t have a banging single player with a “beginning, middle, and end.”

Honestly yeah, Halo Infinite campaign was so much a good time. I can’t wait for campaign DLC :smiling_face_with_tear:

True. Hoping cross-gen ends sooner rather than later.

Don’t take me skipping Psychonauts 2 personal. In fact, for the PS4/XBO generation, there were at least 40+ 90+ rated games on Open Critic and I only played/completed 8 of them. A lot of games just aren’t for me and if I watch a gameplay walkthrough and am not even enticed to at least try a game based on what im seeing, why would I?

I’m not discarding them as both are on my list. But let’s say for example, Fable is meant to be played in co-op and for whatever reason, you can’t play through it solo or get locked out of content in the game, for me, that’s a no go. For Perfect Dark, they can have their MP mode as long as the single player story campaign is great and the primary focus.

Pre-ZeniMax, I was thinking 2023 based on E3 2018. Figured 5 years from those acquisitions. But then they acquired ZeniMax and im thinking okay, they should have at least something for me in 2022 but obviously, they don’t.

In my mind, 2022 is worse than 2017 and im nowhere near being a hardcore Xbox fan but even I didn’t believe or think this would ever happen. Even without ZeniMax, I still expect Microsoft to release an AAA title or two every year.

For me personally, 2020 launch had nothing there. 2021 gave me Halo Infinite which yes, was my 2021 goty so they hit there but thus far in 2022, they have nothing for me. So basically, a single exclusive game for me personally.

My secondary console is simply outperforming my primary console two years in which has never happened before. After 2022, exclusive wise (and yes, I fucking care about exclusives. It’s why I buy these consoles.), PS5 is leading 4 to 1 and if I include third party full exclusives (not that timed bullshit), it’s actually 7 to 1.

I know there’s variables and all that but still, I want my primary gaming console to be my better console and two years in, that simply hasn’t happened yet and it’s just frustrating because since SNES/GEN, I have never had a secondary console outperform my primary console. So again, it’s just ARGH!!!

Agreed. Still hoping that Microsoft acquires WB and all of DC.

True and agreed. It would be nice to see Microsoft go get other third party AAA exclusives even if they’re timed for a year to fill gaps like 2022. Having a third party exclusive like Kena last year on PS5 was great because it lessens the wait and gap I had between Ratchet and HFW. With Microsoft, I never get these kinds of games. They tend to after the games that are of no interest to me.

I agree with you on every aspect. The last part though all depends on what Microsoft does. Minecraft is on PlayStation. Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 for that matter will be on PlayStation. Starfield should be huge but that remains to be seen. Fallout and TES are 5+ years away minimum. COD may end up being multi-platform so in most of these cases, PlayStation isn’t losing anything and they don’t have to fund any of them either like Microsoft does. I take it WOW is World of Warcraft? If so, isn’t this PC only? If it is, don’t see how this benefits Xbox consoles and in turn, doesn’t really affect PlayStation either if they’ve never had it to begin with.

Depends on what the priority and focal point is. For Halo Infinite, the campaign is great and I loved it but that’s not where the priority and focus is. Up to this point, Sony’s games that have MP are secondary and at times, an afterthought or it’s “just there”. The single player campaign is the priority.

With Microsoft, it’s the opposite because you can see it. As great as the Halo Infinite campaign was, is their next campaign expansion a priority? Or is it secondary at best? With Gears, they put more focus on the MP. And even when they do something awesome like Hivebusters, barely anyone plays it because the vast majority of those who play Gears play it for the MP because they know that’s the priority.

See above.

What?

???

Halo Infinite has teams for campaign, multiplayer, forge, etc. Nothing is getting priority over the other exactly, each team is working on their part.

What?! Where is any proof for this? Gears 5 had a great campaign, you could see so much money and time was spent on it. It had very high reviews, 85/100, you think that was for the multiplayer that didn’t even work at first? Also, Hivebusters simply suffered from lack of promotion and marketing.

Again please give us your source that the vast majority play Gears for the MP, because that’s known to be a very unwelcoming and niche multiplayer component with a gatekeep-y community.

I hope so. Because with Halo Infinite, all im waiting for and looking forward to is the campaign expansions.

Not Gears 5 base game.

Hivebusters was barely played. Majority here said it last year. Wasn’t even me who’s saying it.

Do you really believe that Halo Infinite’s campaign is “secondary at best”?

That’s not how this works. That’s not how it’s worked for decades.

Yes, I agree with you that Sony’s MP efforts often end up being sub par.

But that doesn’t mean a MS game with a good MP will automatically have a subpar single player. You can not only have both, but plenty of their games do have both. Hell, it’s basically an XGS staple.
