XboxEra Community Hangout |OT7| Define "AAAA"

Seriously, just end the charade and move on, everyone. Don’t you want to be surprised? Don’t you want that Bethesda and Activision Blizzard WTF moment sensation? Then go on as normal as possible and let it happen.

Either in the weekend or next week. If nothing by then…nothing I guess. For all we know it turns out to be absolutely nothing after all, but now Grubb has said some stuff too.

Not that Grubb can’t be wrong, I mean his source could be wrong too.

I meant, what acquisition do you predict? I also expect either this Friday (with it it being 1st April it is gonna be a shitshow) or next.

“Trials”

You’ll be able to download the full game but only play for a few hours

They already did this with Death Stranding and something else I believe

Oh right. Time limited games. Not demos. Thanks.

Probably a limited game rental, like Xbox’s free play days but even more limited.

This is what I believe as well. I’m expecting something small and non consequential like Jade Raymond’s studio; cheap and with 0 impact on people’s console buying decision. Sony don’t have the financial means for a big acquisition.

IDK about that. While I can’t see sony spending 70 billion I can see them doing 20 billion on a big publisher. Keep in mind Sony’s playstation division is the heart of the company now. I think they would do everything they need to for it.,

Even going bankrupt by spending all their coffers?

There is a handful of companies in the world that can spend 10b, much less 20b.

I just have a tought here: The only reason why issues with some of the XGS are reported because the division is easy access in terms of people. Sony is entirely closed, you won’t see Jim or other people in podcasts for example and in Kinda Funny, Jeff said that Sony punishes anyone who leaks stuff, meanwhile XboxEra got Spencer to one episode but I think they already had him in a previous one and its common to have XGS developers on podcasts and stuff getting leaked from all sides.

Oh boy, I honestly have no idea. Konami maybe? So they’ll have Metal Gear, Castlevania, SH, PES, etc. Maybe SE? They’d have Japanese franchises and western with that.

I mean that would fall under a big acquisition and that’s what Grubb mentioned. I really hope it isn’t Capcom, CDPR or Take Two. But I cannot imagine it being Take Two. Maybe like others here said it’s something similar to Haven or the others they acquired, some consider those big it seems.

When Greg tweeted out he was delaying the podcast, did he say until when?

That’s plausible. Nintendo is the same in terms of closed doors. I mean we can’t say Sony is perfectly solid as well or how their game will release in little to no bug when even their big game like Horizon FW got victimized. No one is perfect and you know what, that’s fine. We can speak in the same wavelength rather acting like a smug.

Do you or anyone else know what Sony can actually spend on an aquisition then. I thought Sony had like 30 billion. I’m not sure where I heard that

Supposedly, there’s an article from Wall Street Journal that indicates Bobby Kotick will face prison time. Unfortunately, it’s behind a paywall, so I don’t know where can I find an alternative.

Woah thats huge if true

Alleged insider trading. Typically folks get away with simple fines and maybe some SEC sanctions. It all depends on your connections.

Punishment

In each of the insider trading scenarios mentioned above, those convicted as a lone perpetrator, a tipper, or a tippee can face the following penalties from the SEC:

  • Disgorgement: giving up illegally obtained profits
  • Civil Penalty: 1-3 times the amount of gain or loss avoidance
  • Bar From Future Violations: would put defendant in line for further violations such as contempt of a court order if violations were to continue
  • Officer/ Director Bar: can no longer serve as an officer or director of a U.S. publicly traded company

Additionally, the SEC often works with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to impose criminal punishments, which can include the following:

  • Prison Sentence: maximum of 20 years in a federal penitentiary
  • Fine: maximum for individuals is $5,000,000 and the maximum for “non-natural” persons is $25,000,000

Individuals and companies can also face class action lawsuits from the public, which can bring additional fines and penalties.

Further, material reputational damage can come upon individuals and companies.

No one is perfect, the more people in, the more chances of issues appearing, but they tend to be very closed, NDA heavy companies, we only learned about the development of The Last of Us 2 after the game released.

The funny thing about this is everyone thinks Konami is just over there doing nothing and rotting away… When they are actually in “Capcom” mode right now making huge dosh on games like Momotaro, eBaseball, Bombergirl, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.

They decided to move into focusing on Japan only and it is working. Momotaro is one of the highest selling 3rd party games on the Switch and Bombergirl is a very popular (and very monetized) arcade game.

The premium here is higher than one would think… Also Sony would have to “clean house” a bit here. They’ll have to deal with Konami’s gambling stuff and their non gaming stuff like the fitness centers they own.

So all that money and effort for a workforce that is no longer used to making AAA games Sony expects and IPs that are more popular in internet bubbles than they actually are in reality.

They have less than 10b remaining in cash on purchases for all the company unless the go after merger.

Oh I remember that, I think Sackboy was one. You had X amount of hours to play but the time started from the moment you hit the “download trial” button. I can’t remember how many hours it was, but I can remember noting there was no way in hell I could actually even download the games in that much time let alone play them. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what they mean by “demos” on PS Premium, it’s a relatively easy way to provide players with the chance to try games. Just damn, they need to implement a better way of timing it.
