Some people in here are in for a rude awkakening if they think there is no chance of Sony acquiring a major publisher.
As long as itâs not Ubisoft, EA, or Take 2, I donât really care who they acquire. I know thatâs not a list shared by that many people here, but those are the only three publishers that Iâd be bummed to lose out on. Especially Ubisoft.
None of acquisition from PS has a ring of shocking like Xbox mainly because they bought ones that theyâre good friends with. Xbox aims for anyone, even if youâre not their friend like Activision. Even Square who is practically bestie with Sony isnât safe from acquisition of another. In short, Sony is predictable despite the surprise.
As for purchase price, I doubt we will see Take Two tier level of purchase but hey, that could be the only surprise. I hate to say it, but I think weâre overestimate their power. If they canât put day one game on their own service, what does that say? Donât tell me you actually believe Jim Ryanâs words. Letâs face it. Itâs farce. I like to be proven wrong but my trust is slim.
Well, overhyping stuff is a normal occurence with Sonyâs rumors.
Sony has already bucked this trend with their acquisition of Bungie, they arenât restricted by only buying the studios they have good working relationships with - thatâs just the teams they started with.
Iâm not really sure what your overall point is here the whole âitâs farceâ thing is confusing. But generally - Sony is just not in the same position to go full on towards a game pass type service like Microsoft is. Could they put their games day one on PS+ Premium? Sure, but without also expanding massively like Microsoft has and making it their primary service itâs simply not a good business decision. These services run on bulk, Microsoft doesnât even have the output to support gamepass alone yet even counting Activision. Thereâs not really much more it than that. Could they afford Take Two? Maybe at a push but it seems unlikely, but that still leaves multiple smaller major publishers they could afford.
I believe it is not gonna be any public entity - as it leaked in the first place and the talks there are usually high level.
Considering that it leaked to the western insiders, it wonât be anything japanese either (why would it leak to the western insiders in the first place?)
Personally I only wish they go for studios that I donât care much about. And so far thatâs what has been happening, I donât care for Bungie either. But at some point they will get a bigger one, they are not done yet. I donât like PlayStation but eventually I will be getting a PS5 for the games Iâd otherwise miss out on. So if they were to acquire a Capcom or SE Iâll get to play those games eventually anyway.
But I really hope itâs not Take Two, but never say never I guess. I understand why MS went after ABK, for their business itâs gonna be immensely profitable but as a customer that barely cares for CoD I wish Xbox had went after Capcom, SE, or maybe more smaller ones like Asobo etc.
Is buying Take Two even possible while they are in the middle of their Zynga acquisition? Doesnât seem like it would be.
Yeah the words âcomboâ flash big on the screens and everyone gets extra points
I should rephrase the good relationship aspect. The thing is, Sony did invest Bungie (or rather Activision) for Destiny to be their megastar game alas marketing. If Bungie was always with Xbox and then yoink, acquired by Sony, that would have been shocker. Thatâs why the purchase wasnât so shocking to me. Only part is the price to pay.
By farce, I mean the reason why they wonât put their games day and date with their service. I know not many care about Metacritic but the fact that Xbox broke the record last year is against quality speaking. Itâs not like rerelease multiple old games with 92 and over. They did it and should be saluted for it. So that excuse, I donât buy.
What people donât understand is that no one is saying PS is doomed because of it. To me, once they announced the new service, my thoughts was itâs not for me and moved on. I never thought RIP PS or anything negative that will scream doomsday. Iâm sure there are many that are. What I got is, Game Pass is my choice.
Basically, PS will be fine with selling the game, even at $70, the usual method. It wonât kill them. That all being said, Xbox has the lead in terms of subscription service offering because of their capabilities. Sony is similar to Nintendo in some way. Their games will sell very well, but they have limited capabilities to do more than producing games like how Xbox doing. Game Pass wouldnât be this âintenseâ if Microsoft wasnât backing them all the way.
hahah
Perhaps after bad talking PS Plus, they put that up to say, âWeâre neutral.â They did release a video on it that basically said itâs meh.
I genuinely donât know why Take 2 is being discussed on here to be honest. As you say, their acquisition of Zynga has yet to even close, and that by itself was a $12 billion acquisition. Take 2 is not looking to be acquired for the foreseeable future, because they are the ones doing the acquiring.
It will be a few years, I just think with GTA and Zynga, they are too valuable for MS not to acquire really.
People are worried about Sony buying them
Hahahahaha. Oh thats funny.
Because Sony is involved and of course the sky is the limit
I mean from ATVI SEC we know that in these talks the ones who participated were lawyers, Satya and Phil. And for some reason the incoming big acquisition somehow leaked to the western insidersâŚ
To be fair, if an announcement is imminent, more people would know due to press releases etc. But other than that, if it is high level talks, then yeah few people will know and it is serious. Itâs not like leaking a frigging game, this can be potentially a deal worth billions for example.
But even the leaky ship Xbox did not leak ATVI deal.
