Yeah me too. I think this is one of those things Geoff was talking about when he said some big stuff was still coming or going on. Believe he said this after Bungie news.
We know for sure MS wasn’t interested but just didn’t get them? With BioWare they could strengthen their RPG grip even more.
Depends on how much money Apple pays the NFL, NBA, etc. If they pay them a lot of money for exclusivity, I don’t think the NFL, NBA, etc. would care. They could just let all the sports games go to other publishers who would make them multi-platform which in turn would be on Apple’s console anyway.
I don’t believe that Microsoft even looked at Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Montreal because wouldn’t they have just purchased them last September when they announced that they were working on Perfect Dark? You would think they looked at them last summer and passed which in my opinion, was a miss.
Sad part is that Microsoft is acquiring studios/publishers that are of little to no interest to me which also applies to Sony. The best acquisition for me was Embracer getting CD/Eidos and all those IP’s.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple get EA and Amazon to eventually get Ubisoft.
Only thing EA has that i care about is Respawn tbh. Bioware ain’t what they used to be and i don’t care about Battlefield or sports games. If Apple really wants to enter the console arena a second time, I’m all for it. Hopefully they learned a lesson from that poor excuse for a gaming console they released last time. But yeah in no universe is EA more valuable a pick up for MS than ABK, and i don’t even like COD.
ABK is far more valuable than EA for Microsoft. For me personally, ABK only has one game that im interested in as of now - Diablo IV where as with EA, I have Dead Space Remake, Jedi Survivor, next Dragon Age and Mass Effect and Respawn’s Star Wars FPS game. EA just has more games and IP’s for me than ABK does.
Seeing Apple enter the console market would be interesting but I don’t really want a third console so im hoping it doesn’t happen. Definitely prefer Disney to acquire EA over Apple and Amazon.
Revenue isnt the only thing that matters though. Reach, influenece and growth of their product matters. Locking the games to a console that will assuredly be in 4th place risks stagnation of the product. The product being the sport in general.
I don’t think this is companies cashing out, they are reacting to increased consolidation and trying to grow their influence/power so that the big dog on the block doesn’t become power less.
Agreed. It would be interesting to see how that plays out if Apple gets EA. I do know that NFL 2K is coming back in some form and should be revealed this year.
I agree with this. Could be a combination of the two because a lot of shareholders usually just cash out and invest with other companies.
Yeah I mean it’s too late now, but if MS indeed had the opportunity to get CD from SE and didn’t…big mistake. This studio is filling that gap that they still have and their track record speaks for itself too. Years ago they did acquire Obsidian, NT, inXile and those were great choices because it strengthens their offerings for Xbox greatly with RPG. CD could have done that too. But wasn’t ABK deal already being negotiated back then?
The ABK deal started in October. The CD/Perfect Dark announcement was last September. Microsoft should have really come away with CD/Eidos when making this announcement. Because of the ABK deal, anyone that I want Microsoft to get isn’t happening until after the ABK deal is closed. Really wanted Microsoft to get CD/Eidos but I am happy that Embracer got them over staying with Square Enix as im a huge fan of Embracer.
I agree. It would be interesting to see if Apple keeps them making them multi-platform or lets the licenses go. This is of course IF Apple acquires EA.
I agree, I stopped buying COD years ago but will definitely give them a go again if in GP.
Hopefully we get more family content like Crash & Spyro etc.
EA have more games that appeal to me (excluding their racing/sports titles) but even Bioware isn’t what it was.
Even Crystal and Eidos offer more games that appeal to me then ABK (and fill an obvious gap in the Xbox portfolio) but were passed on too .
So I’m the only weirdo that doesn’t care and actually wants to see what an Apple entry into Consoles & AAA gaming would look like? Even if that would involve an acquisition of EA I just think the possibilities would be most interesting there…
Personally, if they get a E-rated / 3D platformer studio (TfB) out of ABK that makes Banjo & Spyro, and others, I’d say the ABK acquisition is worth it and better than EA and Square Enix Europe.
Seriously, the ABK acquisition can still be awesome if they do that and decouple some of the studios from CoD and back to making normal video games.
