This is because Sony does something called the China Hero Project in which they heavily invest and help out with game development in China
Project Eve is the first AAA game from a mobile developer and made an appearance at a State of Play, I think itâs safe to say that itâs at least a timed exclusive. No reason to put such a no name game in your show otherwise.
Game Science had a small update in January for Chinese New Year and a 12 minute gameplay trailer last August. Sony locking them down all remains to be seen.
Yeah, I know about China hero project but it is basically Sonyâs bet on growing home console market in China. I still believe thaat PC and mobile are the keys to that market.
Nintendo I recall also doing more or less good there? Donât know.
Sure, Square-Enix and yours latest games have been stellar so far./s
Interesting hypothesis.
they can certainly invest in a white knight mode. Not sure about buying in social media companies.
They seemed ok not upping their bids on Tiktok or even Discord. When Trump started interfering in the Tiktok bid, they were happy to drop the entire case.
Personally, an investment in Twitter is far superior to investment in the likes of Tiktok/Discord, primarily becasue Twitter has some of the best engineers on their team. I donât care for the social media aspect of it.
They are willing to spend money but it does not mean that will throw any amount on the purchase. They offered 12-15b on Discord but it does not mean that they would spend 20b for example on that.
But the whole point for Microsoft was to buy the established community.
I dunno about that. The last Sony State of Played showed a lot of games that were Day One GamePass titles. I donât think the Sony exclusive applies anymore across the board.
Was just a year ago that they were supposedly throwing offers of $50 billion out there for Pinterest.
It was actually the Playstation Showcase and got like a 5 minute spot. I misspoke. But yeah it doesnât mean anything for sure, but thatâs a long time lol.
Now it explains their current output and attitude towards their western studiosâŚ
The point is Social media is not a primary thing on their list for a very specific reason - FB has the full focus for all US politics.
You are trying to make a point about money and unreasonable prices, which I wasnât making really. I was also not trying to make a point about community in the case of Twitter.
âBuying communities or genresâ makes sense in the gaming world of thiings, absolutely⌠But media alternatives or new media channels like Twitter is a different ballgame, and one of the primary reasons why a lot of people were against a single super rich individual wielding the fire-hose of Twitter.
If that what they think about western developers, then they should sell Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal already.
What did is ever do???
You are right that the politics around social media has changed, but owning a consumer focused business like social media has been on Microsoftâs eyes for years.
I think the project eve stuff is just marketing stuff, it resembles other previous examples
I liked the post on the account of your comment. Thatâs not a good thinking from them. Itâs as if theyâre taking on Outriders, Avengers, and Guardians.
I would not be surprised if they are willing to sell those studios for a big price and without IPs (like AT&T tried to do with WB for 4b and zero IPs). Square Enix is literally an Activision-Blizzard of Japan at this pointâŚ
Now, there was this time in 7th gen when Japanese games were trying to âwesternizeâ usually to crap results. Never forget Ace Combat trying to make it play like CoD or the failure that was Ninja Gaiden 3. If thatâs the line of thought here then I agree.
If the line of thinking is âJapanese games are superiorâ then⌠well, what a thing to say.
