I mean, Babylon’s Fall is a Platinum-originated project and it stands along with those games I mentioned, and in direct contradiction to the continued excuses for when Platinum’s games tank…
Throw in the fact that Bayonetta 3 has been in development for over five years, there are clear indications that things aren’t anywhere near as smooth at Platinum, even on their main projects. Given that B3 is built on a foundation of assets, an iterative engine, and mechanics that are already built, I’d argue it’s even more red flags. Sure see a lot of excuses that ignore the bevy of data to prove otherwise.
Yeah it’s sad, I think they delegate to newcomers such project and its too much of a scope for them, or they let into the backburner and/or Square (which is having a very mixed track record) intervene with changes that weren’t planned. Astral Chain was such a hit for them that it felt to be a moment of stability.
GOW is no way near on the same level as Bayonetta. Comparing DMC 1 and 2 to Bayonetta I believe Bayonetta comes out on top. Hell Kamiya directed the first DMC as well.
With Platinum, MS would finally have a world class action studio who understand combat.
If they are serious about entering the Japanese industry, then MS should acquire
You can argue by saying Platinum Games is a coin. One side is good, one side is bad. Hardly, they have a middle ground and that’s not good. It’s better to have great to good instead of awful. Case in point, good will be Bayonetta 3 (I hope) and Babylon’s Fall is clearly their bad. If they are acquired by Xbox, they should get rid of that method of sacrificial lamb. It’s enough.
You keep saying this when there are literally dozens of other examples of better examples of higher-quality Japanese studios. If they don’t acquire Platinum, it literally means nothing towards Xbox’s plans for the Japanese industry. Making them some sort of all or nothing lynchpin is disingenuous.
They are on record saying they want to be acquired though, whist we are not sure the others do. They have a past history with Mikami and Tango, so forming a partnership with them would also be another great move for MS, in terms of helping Platinum integrate.
I mean, I’m torn; having some of the Clover crew back under one roof could be cool to see but Mikami left for a reason (as did others). I think some of that is clear in the output from Platinum. I do think they could be better under Xbox, I just don’t know if it’s worth all the hassle (I don’t mean money). There’s a lot of bad blood there.
That’s all true and fine to say, but to conflate a separate point that if they don’t acquire Platinum then Xbox doesn’t care about Japan, is at the very least, a logical leap without merit.
