Gave up on Persona ever coming to Xbox so I bought that in the Steam Summer sale. Don’t have PS+ or even use PS anymore so I’m not bothered by this.
If they can’t get Persona on Xbox then I hope other JRPGs are on the way. The future is looking kinda woefully bad once again. What’s even coming as of right now? Star Ocean (looks… bad tbh, especially with tri-ace’s recent track record), Digimon Survive (not for me though), and Eiyuden Chronicle in 2023 (kickstarter games tend to be not great, so I’m skeptical on this one) is all I can think of.
It’s best to move forward and if it happens, happens. It’s not to say “give up” or “never give up.” Just let happen or not. At this rate, if it does happen, the reaction would be basically like how FF series starts coming to Xbox with 13 being the first one.
I precisely want Gamepass to get AAA games that aren’t just what these companies don’t trust in doing well without coming to GP day 1. So that’s games unlike Outriders, B4B, and the same ilk of live service/co-op engagement based games that don’t want to be F2P but wanna cash in on Gamepass’ lower barrier to entry.
That is why call me when a big singleplayer game from one of these AAA publishers hits the service, only then will I trust in third parties seeing the service as viable for anything outside those that “make sense for gamepass”
Yep, this way you’d entice people outside the ecosystem, alongside the slandslide of 1st party big hitters. But they know it, I think we are not considering the push back within the industry by Sony and its allies.
Publishers probably ask for too much, but maybe MS should take the risk and pay up for it, something big they trust to be quality. You have to test things and that means maybe an initial loss.
Precisely. Can’t know results without actually testing it on a relevant real world scale instead of some nebulous internal metrics. That is why I’m hoping the Wonder Woman rumor is true, because it makes no sense for WB to agree to it, but that’s exactly the kind of deals that should happen, not ones that are just in the comfortable zone of “oh we don’t trust this game doing that well, or yeah these kind of games just fit the gamepass model really well so alright MS, day 1 for that and that only”. Give me a AAA publisher who’s willing to take that risk, and MS has to be in that very deeply, and perhaps do pay a lot of money for that, but that’s what it takes.
"ok Microsoft, you know what, this deal kinda makes remote financial sense for us, but we love gamepass and have this one big project we ourselves trust deeply in doing well, and it’s not particularly the kind of live game that would require an initial big pool of userbase, but something markedly different, a singleplayer game, something that would essentially act as a vehicle to get you guys tons of subscriptions but also as a vehicle to other amazing games on your service once you complete it, who knows maybe to our own other games as well."

“So yeah, fuck it. Here’s Elden Ring” - Bandai Namco
Considering how bad WB is doing, I think most of their upcoming games are candidates, except for HP (which I think Sony locked via a RE8 type of contract).
Bandai Namco should be a prioritary target, because their games are big, expecially among anime/japanese games lovers, but it’s evident MS has not enough clout to make it happen, they lost Tales of Arise marketing only for Sony irritation, supposedly, lol. Also Scarlet Nexus, for which they had marketing, didn’t launch on GP.
SEGA should be acquired ASAP (also to put an end to Atlus treatment of Xbox coincidentally), GP-wise they should have the next Yakuza day one and also Sonic if possible, the pc line-up is locked down imo, they had Humankind, FM, they’ll have Warhammer 3 and possibly also CoH3.
Ubisoft was long rumoured with a landing vault on GP, which didn’t happen, also their games on GP are very rare, I think here there is a issue concerning competing services they are intertwined with, Stadia and Luna, they are the only big supporters of those things for now.
Ideally speaking, they should have one big game for month in H1 from 3rd party to make-up for nothing from 1st party, so:
January: R6 Extraction
February: DL2 and/or ER would be the best, KoF XV and/or DW9 Empires would be a real signal for japanese gamers/devs (Warhammer 3 is pc only)
March: Tiny Tina and/or FF bad looking spinoff would be the best, but also Elex 2 or Weird West
April: STALKER 2 got it covered
After that, we don’t know much about confirmed releases.
Buddy of mine is coming to visit me, usually we don’t game because we hit the town and check out stores, movie at the cinema etc. Everything is on lockdown here, so yeah…game time.
What are some fun couch co-op games, beat em ups on Xbox (Game Pass)?
I got Battletoads and Streets of Rage on the list.
