Whoa, this sounds very good actually. Stuff I took from video:
The number one comparison would be Black
There’s a lot of potential they say, but also a little rough around the edges. A little generic with a lot of the military jargon, soldiers coming in, stuff you’ve done a million times.
But there’s a really good amount of variety, like swapping back between the characters in your squad. One moment you go into a building, mowing enemies down and then you’ll become the sniper. Really good job of mixing it up enough. The GI guy was getting addicted to the game, absorbed, lost in it.
It’s really linear which helps the storytelling, but a lot of the environments are big enough where you can go off the beaten path, ton of collectibles like docs which help out flesh out the lore.
Its very Sam Lake, cool story beats in the game. The scenario is constantly changing. Lots of potential here.
The demo build was about six hours.
Stealthy/infiltration missions like going through vents, gameplay variety.
Classic Max Payne en Control stuff like weird dream world things.
Remedy’s DNA is all over this.
Destructible cover, but he wishes there was more.
Time slowdown mechanic.
Visually to me it looks a little underwhelming, it being Remedy I don’t know, I expect more. But all the above sounds promising in my opinion.
But it sounds like the game won’t be crazy short or anything if the GI was able to spent six hours with just the demo. Sure he took his time, but still with a linear shooter that’s saying something.
if a remake is what is required to not completely alter the identity of Splinter Cell for a potential future for the franchise and is instead used as a reasonable barometer to see how to bring back the franchise, then so be it.
Say what you want but them making a remake is the best thing they could do that works for both sides. They go safe and can gauge interest on the series to see if there IS actual interest on it and not internet chatter.
But the one problem I have is…if they remake 1 or 2 or really any of them…will it be open world? Rumors from reputable sources sure said that. Then again, remakes can mean drastic changes, just look at Resident Evil. If they go open world I don’t know if they can capture what made it so special years ago.
CA: It’s safe to say a lot of us on the team are stealth purists, and we’re behind that level of seriousness when it comes to those kinds of mechanics, and those sorts of things that we want to see in this game. And we’re very, very aware of what makes classic Splinter Cell what it is.
