BF is the new CoD

Basically yeah lol, just with someone much more competent at the helm of the franchise now than in the past few years.

I wonder with Vince at the helm of DICE, could he have more executive power across EA to loosen the grip of Frostbyte as the sole IDE? Cuz it indeed was a former head of DICE that was responsible for mandating it (Patrick Soderlund), so could the new DICE head have power to change that? Also because under Vince’s Respawn, the studio got to use Unreal Engine for Jedi Fallen Order.

I don’t think that is happening anytime soon.

Agreed.

They did say yesterday that the future of it will continue, but when…that’s the big question.

Was the Frostbite team merged with DICE after their acquisition or are they still separate?

If they are moving away from the engine, just acqui-hire that small team who were a part of Frostbite.

Not sure wrt the first line. And regarding moving away from Frostbite, I think it’s less of that and more ā€œit’s fine letting the studio have a pipeline and environment that the devs are comfortable with and more so fit the game they’re makingā€. Also because of what Vince says below.

As you see, Vince basically gave the reason why, and it’s simple: Much easier to find and hire people experienced in UE and far less time spent onboarding them onto their own engines

JFO2 will 100% be made in UE5, and for any other action adventure that might spring up at EA’s internal studios it might be less of a friction today to choose an alternative to Frostbite than it was a few years ago. Even outside that, as EA as a whole is also pivoting towards mobile, it makes a lot of sense to expand their IDE portfolio and pipelines outside just their proprietary ones, cuz it’d be a lot more difficult to now try scaling them to work across devices to the level of mobile phones, which engines like Unreal are already doing great with.

It’s funny to me that they put all hands on deck for a game and can’t realize the simplest thing, what makes a good BF/CoD game.

Watched Shang Chi. Average/weak movie. Disappointed.

Great potential. Loose story. Looser interconnections. Meh villain.

The mandarin actor seemed underutilised.

I played COD during the last free week-end and I think it’s still so popular because it’s easy (non existant TTK) and because of its name, otherwise it’s a mediocre shooter.

The guy did technically make CoD big as it is today. Well, over last generation. If someone can fix BF, it would be him.

Oh that’s too bad. I quite enjoyed it myself, even went to see it twice. But then again I have a sub to the cinema theater here.

The only downer for me was that they talked English too much for my liking, even in time periods and moments where it did not make sense NOT to talk Mandarin.

They definitely could have done more with his father. I think you mean that, right?

That part of the story had so much potential. Just the overall abruptness was silly. Even the villain was just weak. The first How to Train Your Dragon had a villain that this could have aspired to be.

Who wrote the letter to him, though?

Yeah I agree about the abruptness too and yeah, I have no idea about that last question myself. Good question.
