I’ve gotten over the timed exclusivity stuff for now because it’s just a matter of time before these things start getting better for MS. Something is wrong when MS can’t even prevent their own legacy games from excluding their platform at launch. Coming off of an absolute tragedy of a generation, we gotta realize these things will have started to take shape for a few years. Sony isn’t fucking stupid. They have been seeing MS start treating gaming like an important division since 2018, as such are being an early bird of sorts in using their current market position to gather up as many deals as possible and spending money where they can with the money they have. Amidst that, they got simply steamrolled by the Zenimax acquisition. I do believe losing KOTOR Remake of all at launch was more of a symbolic loss that affects MS’ optics really bad for now, rather than something that shall forever haunt them, like how losing Zenimax shall haunt Sony for ages to come. I do agree this shouldn’t be looked at in isolation, as more of these deals will keep happening. Your guess is as good as mine pertaining to when these things will stop happening. The following two years will be collateral damage with deals that continue to fuck over xbox. At this point, hopefully everyone understands just having more money than Sony is not all it takes when it comes to these deals.
Tales Of Arise is on Xbox, imagine if the highest rated JRPG of the year missed the platform again, I think it’d point to a worsening situation, but there it was, day 1. Bandai Namco have been a good partner for Xbox and suspecting it’ll only keep getting better. This just needs to extend towards other publishers over time and I suspect it will. I think Sony recognizes that the Japanese market is expanding away from console into PC and multiplat more and more, as such they are now coming to the West for deals and also allowing for majority of their moneyhats to also include PC day 1 or sometime down the line because it is certainly becoming harder for Sony to keep justifying everything to revolve around their plastic box. As such they too are expanding out of the plastic box paradigm. These are all market factors that are evolving both MS and Sony to adapt to them, and while they still can, Sony is grabbing up deals as much as they can. I think 2023 onwards, we’ll see far fewer deals like these. I envision seeing Guilty Gear on Xbox again, Persona on Xbox again, Final Fantasy on Xbox again, Ys on Xbox again, Trails on Xbox, etc it’s just few more years of enduring a post-apocalyptic generation for Xbox where everything has started to get better.
Having said that, I absolutely wouldn’t at all be surprised if Sony approaches Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja to make an exclusive Ninja Gaiden for Playstation lmfaoo
It’s just wild wild west for the moment, the theater is amusing. Sony knows how to sell tickets, and guess we gotta sit through it begrudgingly for a while lol
Idk Steve my opinion is that there is a big gap between KOTOR, FF16, Forspoken (that looks terrible to me), Deathloop*, Ghostwire* and the rumored Bioshock games to The Ascent (which I liked) and a GP deal for Outriders.
Sucks cause Id rather play most of the games above on Xbox than on that other monstrosity lol.
Idk me pointing some flaws ≠ Doom Posting. That would be me saying xbox is doing terrible or bad as a result when all Im saying is that the trend is not good, could give some bad optics to the casual crowd and Id like xbox to snag one of these games for once like they did with RoTR but oh well. Saying something that doesnt sound good labels me as a doom poster then ¯_(ツ)_/¯
