“Gaming has never been cheaper in America”

I’m pretty sure it was cheaper last October, mate

I’m actually surprised the debate around game pricing hasn’t really kicked off again (unless it has & I haven’t noticed).

I remember the seemingly endless threads on both Gaf & Era about expansions, dlc, micro-transactions & how much it costs to make big AAA titles… Good times were had by all.

Get ready to see stupid hyperbole by people on certain forums that everything they saw at Sony was better than Xbox. Like that Twitter comment the other day that Arc System works would be better than most Xbox Studios. Can’t make this shit up.

I have no doubt whatever Sony shows from their own studios will look great, but man there are some silly people out there.

There are stupid takes against Xbox on daily basis, the community should not freak out every time Sony shows something, even here people went mad for the usual fabricated demo (in a real gameplay situation nobody behaves like this ever lol) for HFW, too much insecurity. I hope this E3 had squashed the doubts.

You don’t think HFW was real? I mean I remember the demo for the first one and I think the final game was pretty close or even went past it a little?

I hate to say it, but some of the discourse around HFW and whether Xbox first party could match the visuals of that game was quite frankly embarrassing and a bit disrespectful to the talent that Xbox has. At least Forza Horizon 5 was shown and shattered that notion right away.

The game would be beautiful, I don’t like demos not representative of real gameplay situations, that’s it.

Agreed

I hate to admit it but I was part of the problem. Everytime I saw sony put out a confrence I was like why can’t xbox match this quality. I am not worried about this anymore. My only worries are some games being less narritive focused and more multiplayer focused and I also just want the achievements fixed. Aside from that I believe in the xbox first party,

There was nothing wrong with the Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal. It did exactly what it needed to do, gave us an idea of how the finished game will look & play.

There was no need for certain people on one side to loudly proclaim that it was so far above anything Xbox could ever achieve, because that’s obviously false.

At the same time, there’s no need for certain people on the other side to downplay it either. Both are equally insecure &, frankly, immature.

Ah I see what you mean. The way they controlled the woman, forgot her name is unlikely how we actually play it, you mean?

Xbox is definitely getting there, but aren’t completely there yet. We still had CG/cinematic for things that should have been gameplay but for some reason aren’t. Redfall for example. This in my opinion was not a good way to reveal a brand new IP that will release in a year from now, a lot of misinformation and misinterpretation would have been avoided.

So I am hoping they did it this way because the plan is to have a proper reveal later this year. I would mention Avowed’s absence too, but that would be based on totally unconfirmed rumors. Halo is another one, lot of folks seem content with what we got, and I am genuinely surprised about that. I was watching with my buddies and we we’re all like “dude, this can’t be it” the very brief flyby of one of the rings, we didn’t even see enemies or anything close up, but that was it. According to Grubb 343 wanted to spend most time working on the game ,so a deep dive for campaign wasn’t going to be made, but I find it a missed opportunity.

The way PG revealed FH5 was superb, this is how I would love to have it for every upcoming XGS game from now. I totally get that timed or just multiplatform games don’t get deep dives, but your own exclusives? There’s nothing wrong with companies taking a page out of the book from others. Was it E3 2018 where Sony had gameplay demos of Spidey, TLOU2, Ghost ? I loved that. MS could easily do that in the future with the amount of games they got coming. Or of course adopt the Nintendo Direct style thing for their exclusives.

Oh and Phil recently said they hope Arkane is able to show more soon. I guess just like 343 they really wanted to keep working on the game. But…if you take the time to make a cinematic, why not use that time to make a slice for the show I wonder?

That clause will require money in exchange

The more Gamepass sub grows… Xbox will have to pay less and Sony will have to pay more…

Yeah, I also strongly suspect that the ambient and the situation was specificly crafted for the demo, like they always are for every E3 demo.

Also I don’t mind CGI reveals, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Bethesda, Xbox, also Nintendo use them a lot. The problem is when you reveal a new IPs from a not welll known studio in the mainstream (sadly Arkane is still not there), because people dob’t know what to expect and freak out. If a CGI trailer is from a known IP and/or a reknown studio, there is no problem.

It’s not an Xbox-specific thing though. Sony and Nintendo have done this many times (and fairly recently too). Arkane games are always revealed through CGI, I guess it’s just the way they like to do it. Gameplay is usually shown not too far after. In fact, I bet it was Arkane’s idea to reveal it with CGI.

Like you said, unconfirmed rumors. We don’t know what was actually happening behind the scenes.

Because what they showed was actually good. They showed in-game footage of the environment likely representative of the actual game, which showed noticeable improvement. This improvement was further shown through the cinematic, which also gave more insight into the narrative. No enemies shown up close, sure, but why is it needed? No one will care when the game releases, besides fanboys with their stupid graphics nitpicking. Then of course, the multiplayer trailer showed lots of in-game gameplay, again which showed an improvement from the last showing. They needed to give a look at multiplayer after all these years, and they did exactly that. I get that you don’t care for multiplayer, but just because they didn’t do a campaign overview doesn’t mean they are afraid of showing the game or anything.

I don’t think they should do a deep dive for every single game. For a couple games, fine, but not all. Kills pacing. What’s better, instead, is to do a 3-ish minute gameplay trailer. Then perhaps they can do an overview in an extended showcase, or give the game it’s own thing. What would also be beneficial would be to have a second main show, preferably early in the year. That way they have plenty of time to give everything the spotlight it deserves.

Because CGI can be easily outsourced, having no impact on development. Making a gameplay trailer/overview is MUCH more complicated. Especially with how rough game development can be, and with the added nuisance of COVID.

Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 will arrive in November well in time from the new Microsoft Store being in Windows 10/11 on the PC. :eyes:

because you can just outsource a CGI trailer to a specialized studio for such tasks who don’t bother your dev team too much :woman_shrugging:

Hopefully the rest of the community follows suit and have more confidence in Xbox first party. Just like PlayStation cannot stop Xbox from showing amazing looking games, the same is true for Xbox. We will probably see God of War looking really good but let’s just acknowledge it and not run to the hills screaming that Xbox cannot compete lol.
