Microsoft just hit a $2 trillion market cap for the first time the other day and has the now CEO and Chairman of the Board openly saying that they are “all in on gaming”, so I really think that Sony ought to be careful about how many poison pills they try to play out there because if Microsoft does truly continue to commit to gaming at the top levels and building their Xbox Game Pass content pipeline that isn’t a war that Sony is going to win even if they win a few skirmishes along the way.
The whole “war” associated language used here to describe video game company’s strategies is frankly, a little silly and a little gross. They’re video games. This isn’t a war.
lmfaoo they were like nope! I thought elites were supposed to be intelligent warriors
It’s business, but there is war in business.
If Sony wants attack the potential market for Xbox, MS will just retaliate by buying everything they can and making every partnership they can with the sheer amount of money they have.
Yes, we play videogames, they play the business game and there’s a lot of attrition there, there’s no “silly” things in business, just money.
Satya has tasted blood with the Xbox potential, he won’t stop so soon and won’t let Sony stop Microsoft.

Very brave of you.
That’s fine, but I’m not talking about video games and how the strategies are War-like. I know where my goods come from - yes, that’s also not great in the least - but that’s not what’s being discussed here. Apologies to anyone I offended with the comment. I just personally prefer to think of it in different terms because it’s not serious to me, it’s entertainment. Carry on with your war games . Much love to you all.
It’s just video games—you know, the ones about violence, war, murder, genocide, apocalypse… silly, really, but using vernacular that invokes combat in this context? Too far!
It’s not that serious while simultaneously being serious? You’re just not being logically consistent with your pearl clutching. My comment was to point out what seems like a pretty vapid attempt of virtusism that will inherently be hypocritical.
Of course we’re the ones offended, though. But fair enough. Let’s all be friends here.
I wasn’t really trying to make it a console wars thing as I do happen to have a PS5 along with my Xbox Series X, as I was just talking about the “business war” aspects of it and how Sony stands to really make the much larger company respond even more aggressively if they continue to do certain kinds of 3rd party deals/agreements.
Indeed. Appreciate the comment and perspective.
I own both as well, lots of good stuff to look forward to! I understand what you’re saying, just was too keen on the terminology used but it’s not big deal. Good discussion and thought overall. I’ll slink back to my Xbox game history thread now…
I don’t mean threaten the third party publishers to where they can’t release their games on Xbox or PlayStation for that matter. I just mean that Sony will go after marketing deals like they normally do and just pay extra to include the “no game pass for a year” clause in the contract.
I’m assuming the big surprise of the next PlayStation event is the broad reveal of their PlayStation Entertainment Pass.
While I would love to see Sony put their exclusives on PS Now or PS Plus day one, I honestly don’t see them doing that. At least not for their top tier titles. I can see the smaller AA and lower titles being put on PS Plus for a month and that’s it.
I’m expecting their exclusives to be on PC day one long before they put their top tier exclusives on PS Now or PS Plus day one.
That’s not what it’s about anyways. It was just adding some streaming perks for TV shows and Movies and maybe music too. It was never about adding their games Day One on their service.
If there’s no games on it, it would be funny to see Sony highlight a TV, Movies and Music segment on their showcase. lmao.
My favorite comment:
“You are wrong! We are paying £55 and not £70! And that’s by waiting only two weeks after the game’s release!”
Yeah, sure, that’s definitely better than playing the game day one at no extra cost “because I’m actually renting it”.
Those poor Xbox owners who played Gears Tactics on Game Pass at launch and bought the physical version of the game during Prime Day for $5…
more difficult than the Ori Water Tree?
Rumor is they already “strongly suggesting” smaller devs to not put their games on Gamepass if they are on PS. Wasn’t something like that also revealed from that Epic vs Apple case?? Hilarious either way.
That rumour is stupid and overestimates Sony’s clout, one little example: Worms rumble was a 6 months console timed exclusive and then it launched straight into GP when it landed on Xbox. It’s only the latest of many others in the past and more and more in the future. I suspect this is another Sony fanboys fabricated rumour. They can certainly pull that shit with japanese “friendly” publishers, but other than those ones, I don’t see many interested, expecially after Outriders or MLB numbers, big devs wouldn’t lose that type of money and indie won’t jeopardise their future to appease Sony, which is known for caring about indies only when it’s “cool”.
