These 3 games are the only games NISA has published on any Xbox console yikes. And according to wiki “Games developed and/or published by Nippon Ichi Software” that number is zero going back to 1994. Also can’t beleive that thread on otherera…
RPG Maker was actually cancelled on Xbox only too, came to everything else just fine. R-type was a Kickstarter game with Xbox as a stretch goal, so they had no choice there.
In situations like I think Xbox shouldn’t pander to them, find another studio/publisher to partner with. If they don’t want to work with Xbox to just allow the game on their platform MS shouldn’t go out of their way to support them. I know what some of these publishers are doing, they know MS is loaded and want to take MS for a ride to just get their game on the system.
Good thing for me is I don’t give a crap about any of those games so it’s not a loss for me, I know it’s a loss for some others but for myself it’s not even remotely annoying missing out on those games.
Not a loss for me either but I still feel like Xbox needs to try and get these games on the system, if they haven’t tried already. Atlus is the big one but I’m sure Xbox has made an attempt and talked to them. Still not giving up hope on Persona 5.
I agree, there’s an element of wanting Phil to come cap-in-hand with Game Pass money, plus extra, to get the games on Xbox that come to other platforms by default. That’s certainly a factor for many, I’m sure.
That said, the historical disregard for Xbox by NISA is almost certainly based on something more insidious.
Other era having a “laugh at Xbox” thread, started by a mod no less, doesn’t surprise me at all. Place has never been subtle about their platform biases.
Well, NISA launched Disgaea 4 PC into Game Pass day 1, so there IS some sort of relationship there. That is approaching a year ago though and there hasn’t been anything since. Maybe they are expecting MS to bankroll every single port?
You can see MS is trying to get close to SEGA so it’s most likely coming, I think it would be better for MS to partner with SEGA.
Someone said something about mods posting spam and another mod is like lighten up lmao can’t be serious.
Yeah probably, like I said some companies can see MS investing in gaming and they want some of that MS money. If you think about it how fucked up is it that some companies might even try removing Xbox versions just to make Xbox pay for them to be put on there because they know MS needs the support and have a lot of money.
Yeah, I think it safe to assume they’ve talked to Atlus as well during their SEGA talks. And we’ve already seen them partner with SEGA. PSO2 is the prime example, Xbox helped a lot with localization, and it’s an exclusive in the west. And then they helped a bit with Like a Dragon localization too. And of course all the Yakuza ports.
La-Mulana 1+2 are published by NIS and are on Xbox as well. Disgaea 4 is on Windows Store. I think they want some monetary incentive (Game Pass money) to release games on Xbox.
It’s probably the thing Satya was saying when he was talking about investing in Xbox, smart investments. MS isn’t dumb and they’ll know when a company is trying to take em for a ride and they won’t buy into that. That’s the dangerous thing about having a lot of money companies will try to get some of that dollarydoos for things they shouldn’t even get paid for. When a game comes out on Win10 PC that game could most likely run on Xbox with little to no changes so it’s not a porting issue it’s them saying give us money and will release it on your system.
Fun fact about the Stadia version of Trails of Cold Steel. NISA somehow left untranslated text in the Stadia version only. It’s been like that for 2 months and counting. They apparently said they aren’t planning on fixing it. They collected the Google cheque and ran. Who’s to say theoretical Xbox versions wouldn’t get the same treatment?
Keep in mind that “NISA” isn’t “NIS”. The A in NISA stands for America and they publish lots of games that aren’t made by NIS. The people at NISA are Americans, so there definitely isn’t “racism” or something like that going on.
No love of any genre of game should have Xbox gamers wanting MS to go “begging” for certain games. IMO it’s okay to for MS to give the middle finger to companies that are hostile or too greedy.
Hard disagree, Phil was very clear with his message.
Xbox is behind in manufacturing consoles because they were waiting for full RDNA2 or whatever.
Also you’re solely looking at it from your POV. Yes Xbox sells out very fast in North America or Britain but in other regions of the world, that’s simply not the case.
XBOX just has to keep going on this current trajectory and those studios won’t be able to ignore the platform for much longer.
They’ll be coming to them instead of the other way around.
Guys, imo we should not freak out when small-medium size japanese games skip Xbox, it’ll happen again and again and honestly is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, NIS president simply doesn’t like MS and that’s it.
Reading between the lines they want to be paid for ports and MS would do it only for significant games like they are doing for SE and SEGA series.

That is like a soft blackmail by NIS.
Rather than funding for porting, I would ask ID@Xbox and ID@Azure to invest in new/original content by funding Japanese creators directly – like they are doing for Eiyuden Chronicles. That has massive potential.
Just fund 10-20 Japanese indie creators on every 3 year cycle. That will start paying dividends.
They could also establish an ID@Japan and ID@Korea.
Many studios have shady business tactics, NIS is only another one in the list. Honestly MS should avoid entirely people like this, they’ll come themselves down the line and if not.
They are correct in identifying that MS’s minimum order for discs is too high, 100% credit there.
I’m not sure what being a Japan-focused developer has to do with anything if you can reach a wide enough audience outside of it through initiatives like Game Pass and ID.
Finally, it’s a two way street. MS has strives to make in Japan for sure, but the inverse also applies. Yakuza came to Xbox and has had tremendous success. It’s not as if there isn’t a market on Xbox for these games, and with Game Pass increasing sales of genres, the pallate of an Xbox gamer is way, way, way more refined than it used to be.
Ultimately, it all comes down to strategy. If you wanna do a day and date or a GP release or a release after at a reasonable price, there is a place for success on Xbox. If you charge full price 3 years after release for your untested on the platform property, don’t be surprised if people overlook.
Xbox doesn’t own a disks plant like Sony, they license them to Technicolor and minimum order is 50k. They are doing some shit with LRG, but I suspect they are doing it only for goodwill and losing money. One thing is some limited editions, another is to allow new releases taking a loss even before start. Moreover physical games are dying an excruciating death, I’m not sold this is the deal, many games are ok with digital only releases.
You’re right, NIS and Falcom people are only closed minded, they don’t see the value in the renewed Xbox platform and it’s their loss ultimately, their non support won’t make any difference in the grand scheme of things, but I suspect some money from MS could make a big difference for them.
