I liked the look of this one, glad to see it’ll have an Xbox release at some point.
Yeah, I can see people thinking that it looks/feels the same as Ratchet games but what franchise doesn’t outside of maybe Nintendo? Gears 5 was the same as Gears 1. Not much difference if at all. Unless it’s an actual change like God of War or to a lesser extent, Assassin’s Creed, all franchises stay pretty much the same as what they were built upon. Also, why would anyone want it to be changed if it’s already great as is?
I’m definitely hyped but to each their own bud.
Buy the cheapest game you can that has the correct spine and just swap out the inserts. Not sure how difficult that would be without warping the plastic sleeve though…
I don’t get the hype… It looks nice, but who the hell plays games because they look nice? Not talking about you here, just in general.
Feels a bit like Returnal, niche game being overhyped simply because there is nothing else.
I’m not asking for fundamental “change”, but at least some damn evolution. You mention Gears 5 and yet it’s a drastically different game from a campaign and modes standpoint than previous entries, so that’s perhaps not the best example.
I feel early release demo is a common thing if a platform holder has marketing rights. I believe Resident Evil did that because Sony had marketing rights, so it makes sense to release early if a platform holder has marketing rights. Also same thing usually happens with COD betas.
I really hope it doesn’t play like Astral Chain because it looks like it. I did not enjoy the feel of that one.
Rift Apart looks amazing but I play games for a total package. Visuals, audio, combat/gameplay and story/characters. Granted, depends on the genre and game so like The Division 2 for example, I enjoyed the story/characters but that’s the weakest aspect of the game.
I have both current generation consoles and I sure as hell don’t want to play old looking games. I want new updated current games. But of course, that’s just me.
No interest in Returnal but combat/gameplay wise, it’s Housemarque so I know it’s excellent but no interest in the rogue like stuff. Souls games are niche as well but they’re also good to great. Granted, I don’t care about them but I can see why people love them.
I don’t play MP so it was just single player campaign for Gears 5 for me. Outside of the wide open empty bland areas, the skiff which was boring because enemies don’t chase you or do anything plus the side stuff was all padding. None of it was special, original or unique. There’s a reason why I prefer Hivebusters over Gears 5. Because it’s simply the better Gears game even though it’s an expansion.
I have played and completed all 5 main Gears games and playing Gears 5 felt no different than Gears UE which I played about two years earlier. Outside of what I mentioned, I think there’s a reason why so many people want Gears to go on a long break because it needs it. At least I think it does.
As for Ratchet needing an evolution, the evolution will be in the gameplay. They added a lot of stuff like flying combat or the rifts which yeah, will impact combat and gameplay because it adds strategy to it. Instead of going head on, use a rift to get behind enemies and change your approach. Sure, the core mechanics are the same but why would anyone want them to change when they don’t need to be?
But…why? “This game is boring af and not my kind of genre, but its pretty so I’m paying $100!”
You’re not worried about it, at all?
Ratchet and Clank is a game made as a showcase for graphics, not a showcase for gameplay or innovation.
Sony knows that when someone look at these graphics their first though will be “this looks next-gen”, it won’t matter if the game is repetitive or more of the same formula, if it has those graphics and cinematic set pieces then people will buy it.
And just as Demon’s Souls remake had a reaaally outdated gameplay, people loved to say it was a true “next-gen” game because of graphics alone.
For me this doesn’t do anything if there isn’t anything in the gameplay that feels engaging or somewhat new for that IP. Besides shiny new graphics, Ratchet has same old gameplay vibes, not interesting to me at all.
I have played bits and pieces of Ratchet PS4 and I dont get the fun aspect of the gameplay. I find it kinda boring and plain.
Man, when I think of late May / early June, getting Ratchet and Clank and also possibly Psychonaughts 2. I get SO excited…
…to play Biomutant
To be perfectly honest, NO.
The main thing I have learned the last 5 or so years is that when it comes to Sony’s first parties, I rarely if ever have any worries or concerns simply because they’re proven to be amazing for the most part.
I have zero worries or concerns with Santa Monica, Insomniac, Guerrilla, Sucker Punch and to an extent, Naughty Dog. I don’t like Druckmann and believe he shitted on TLOUP2 story and character wise but excluding that, they’re great too.
Well, I still think that if you buy a game on graphics alone you are…weird.
1 thing Sony is top in class at is controlling a narrative and creating hype, something I don’t think Xbox will ever be able to do, although Bethesda buyout was probably the closest thing. I’m not putting down R&C in anyway, Sony just knows how to tickle people perfectly
I’m not buying Rift Apart because of only the visuals. I’m buying Rift Apart because I loved and enjoyed Ratchet 2016, the combat and gameplay is excellent and the visuals just happen to be the icing on the cake for Rift Apart.
Thats you Peter but I know some people that judge a game solely based on if it looks lifelike as if its the only barometer of quality.
Xbox has the golden opportunity to make the best E3 they’ve ever had.
They CAN do it, will they? Time will tell…
