Absolutely nuts. I so want to hear why they thought this game and these characters would capture everyone’s imagination, other than “It looks vaguely similar to Guardians of the Galaxy!”
When the media and jokes like the aforementioned YTer, constantly tell Sony and their fans that they’re doing everything right all the time and all their games are perfect, it’s easy as hell (to me, anyways) to see how Sony leadership thought that they could literally put out anything and the masses would buy it up…
Man, if it’s an expression I hate it’s “toxic positivity.”
Being positive isn’t toxic. Loving something isn’t toxic. Period.
Don’t get me wrong, I do understand what they mean when applied in this context. You can’t improve something that isn’t allowed to be critiqued. But too often it’s used when talking about fans and their reactions to whatever it is they love.
Hahaha.
I mentioned it in another thread but it would be cool if more people who is into video games worked in the industry.
He’s the one currently trying to make Horizon franchise a thing too (like fetch). His tastes seems suspect.
As much as I’m enjoying The First Descendant, besides doing the missing colossi fights. All I’m currently doing in the game is grinding for materials, grinding for XP for weapons/descendants, grinding for XP for the extra power up/perks.
So I think it’s time to take a break from the game and come back for season 2.
What’s going to be funny to me, is all the exposes that will come out in five years that will paint Herman as what he currently appears to be - a terrible leader, completely disconnected from actual gamers, including their own fanbase. People love to shit on Phil, but I’ve never seen Xbox have a $400million failure (on top of the fact that Sony stupidly bought the studio before even having anything to show), and what will likely cost far too many devs’ livelihoods. Hell, as someone who’s far too ingrained in the industry workings, and far too much useless historical knowledge on it, I think everyone at Sony’s recent studio purchases should be concerned, Bungie especially… hell, if Japan Studio can get shuttered, no one is safe at Sony, I suppose.
Yes, this is an industry-wide problem, but Sony is dealing with a special hell of their own making.
At least people actually like Horizon.
It takes me back to the late 2000s when every new game franchise was trying to be an “expanded universe” with tie-in movies and comic books and whatever else, before it had even earned any fans. It’s quaint almost.
400m is crazy. The fact that the game peaked at under 700 players on steam during the full release is even crazier. How the hell did they think that Concord had “Star Wars like” potential. What’s even worse is that Sony thought it had all this potential and players took 1 look at it and immediately knew this game was going to struggle.
I’d probably agree more if the gameplay and structure wasn’t so unbearably derivative, and simultaneously limiting. I’ve tried to beat the first game over a dozen times in the six+ years it’s been out, and every damn time I just end up bored as hell.
They did open the SoP with this game in which got like 12 minutes showcase.
Yeah I believe they thought it had a lot of potential, it’s just crazy how disconnected from reality they were.
Completely disagree.

Better with the sport that’s in booming period.
Has anyone other than Colin Moriarty confirmed this? Like Grubb? Or Schrier?
Awaiting for others.
I know it sounds defensive, but I have never seen Moriarty as a reliable source.
Only when it’s Xbox, it’s infinite confirmed!
But seriously, I am waiting for anyone to step in before reacting any further.
I was going to say, we’re talking about the corp that these people go out of their way to be… “toxic positivity cheerleaders” for. So I don’t doubt that some of this is mirroring the usual “sweep it under the rug” approach we see from the usual suspects on Sony. That’s not at all to say I have anything positive to say about the individual in question…
He is friends with a lot of Playstation Studios devs and used to work at IGN when they weren’t clickbait. I don’t love his content, but to disregard it is funny. Shuhei Yoshida literally had dinner at his home.
