Underscoring all the talk about dev costs has raised a huge issue- making the exact same game costs far, far more in the US than in a place like Poland. Us game development is just a bad investment in the long term

400 millions sound way to much. And he says the cost of aquiring the studio is not included in this sum. That doesnt add up.

I tend to trust Moriarty if it’s negative Playstation news. He should have good connects and has no need to push out the negative. Might mean he’s even sugar coating it.

200 million prior to Sony getting involved. 200 million from Sony to get it to where it was at. It does sound like a lot, but using support studios and all those cinematics probably wasn’t cheap.

Maybe the numbers are not accurate but keep in mind.

The studio is located in one of the most expensive states, and if the game has actually been under development for more than 7 years, and there are external studios to support the development, I would not be surprised if the cost is close to these numbers.

I have no idea why people are scoffing at the price when we all have seen the average cost of AAA game development these days, and given how long this was in prod for (coupled with the very real cost of purchasing a studio), seems to be far more reasonable to me. We’re also talking about a toxic Sony fanboy that has gone out of their way consistently to sweep shit under the rug, sugarcoat, and hyperfocus on others’ perceived failures… so, why would this person go out of their way to highlight how, clearly terrible, Sony leadership is atm?

Sounds like some just don’t want to believe Sony could make such a blunder… whereas I’ve lived through decades of Sony screwups and am anything but surprised.

We all know that Sony is obsessed with detail and cinematic experience, which unfortunately leads to longer development times and in turn increases development costs.

Don’t forget all of the fancy Blue cinematics as well. However many they made.

Exactly. Slightly hyperbolic here but that 11 minute cinematic, that didn’t do anything at all to represent the game, probably cost a pretty 20 million alone (we’re talking about Blur and the slow, iterative process of CG animation - my best friend works in the film industry and the costs that he throws out constantly makes me squeamish).

One thing to account is perhaps there are already plenty of post content, including cinematic.

Wonder if they also had some investment in that TV show that Blur is doing with the Concord episode. Effectively canceling the game makes that episode a waste.

Could you imagine if the show creates a boom like FallOut and Cyberpunk did. Concord won’t exist to get any sale boost.

100% there was some incentive to get that in. Maybe access to other IP, if not cash

200 prio to Sony getting involved doesnt make sense, the studio was not big enough before to get to that sum. and 200 mio from all of outsourcing in just 2 years is a lot more than normal for a game. and the credits of concord are not out of the normal.

i think the 200-250 million figure from Laura Fryer and others including the cost of buying the studio is a lot more believable.

Hope so!!

FINALLY!!! A game with Majima as the protagonist. Been waiting for this since I played Yakuza Zero in 2017. Just watched the trailer and looks really good. Day one for me. Best of all, it’s a beat em up even though I wish RGG Studio would do a Yakuza game that’s like Sleeping Dogs with a counter system and whatnot. That would be awesome in my opinion.

As someone who keeps track of the games that Microsoft and Sony have published since the release of Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 respectively, Microsoft has published 19 games including Age of Mythology while Sony has published 20 games including Astro Bot.

The 19/20 games respectively does NOT include remasters/director’s cuts/upgrades/third party published games such as Final Fantasy XVI/Rebirth, etc.

The quantity is just about even while the overall rating is very close with Sony being at 82.5 while Microsoft is at 81.3 via Open Critic.

It’s not a landslide or slaughter for either side regardless of what anyone wants to spout out.

With that all said, I don’t give two shits about the remasters/director’s cuts unless there’s an expansion added to it like Tsushima had. Otherwise, no interest. But I know why they do it and it has nothing to do with their new game output - it’s simply easy money. Same for Nintendo and other publishers that have a cult like fan base who’ll buy pretty much everything they release.

I love Days Gone as it was my 2019 game of the year but no interest in replaying the game but if they were to somehow include those three DLC story packs that were cancelled and they’re worth playing, im not going to lie, I would buy the game again bit anything less than that, nah, no thanks.

I love the two main Horizon games but Hulst is going overboard with the franchise. Should end as a trilogy and if anything, just kept alive by the rumored MMORPG that is said to have the art style of Immortals Fenyx Rising which in all honesty, im very interested in seeing what the game looks and plays like.

Positive or negative, I believe Moriarty because he rarely if ever has any “stuff” or “info” nowadays like he used to. If he says stuff like this even a few times a year, it’s a lot.

I also don’t believe that he gains anything by lying about any of this Concord stuff when his entire brand is setup around mainly PlayStation. He would basically be shooting himself in the foot.

I imagine the cost includes is buying the studio, PS supporting the studio financially years before they bought it, all the weekly cinemantics, and paying for a an entire episode in an anthology. On top of the usual expensive advertising campaign.

Even if all of that isn’t strictly game development, all of that would go into consideration for a flop if this proportion.

they’re pretending it was 200m deep before sony bought them and then sony did another 200m, none of it including the acquisition. I do not believe it, as fake as the Halo Infinite was 500m rumor

Yeah, I’m not so sure in the actual cost either considering the source, but I have no doubt it definitely was expensive.
