I think the industry has just changed. Playstation would still love to continue moneyhatting, but they obviously are not in a position to. They can’t afford most of the big publishers and only starting out indies would take the money for security. Doesn’t look like Stellar blade is getting the PC love and the developers have said their next game will be multiplat.
Went back to see last year’s SoP around the same time and the moment they present Concord, I can already see why this one was hated. Astro Bot had to carry that show hard.
I feel the state of play was solid in relationship to their other state of plays. I would probably put it on the B to B- range with the knocks being done really corny talking segments and the lack of first party games from a console publisher. And the fact metal gear solid keeps showing up to these shows.
But I’ll give them credit for actually bringing in a diversity of games as in the past it seemed you would have a huge amount be similar type of games. And they showed a solid amount of games granted a few have been out there for awhile.
But overall a decent show that could compete with say xboxs partner directs our whatever they are called but in the “SGF” time block I’m going to guess it will probably be one of the lower shows.
Last year’s summer fest was heavily carried by Xbox. I remember people were afraid that the summer was going to suck until Xbox shone the light. It was the time the amount of praise was overwhelming and deservedly so.
Now we have to hope if SGF tomorrow is an improvement but going by rumor, having RE9 is a start.
There’s a lot of games that are Xbox only, still. Many of them will change, but one of the slightly curious things about the new Xbox approach is, at times, a tacit read that suggests everything’s (in effect) day 1 on PS. Not the case, and until a regular cadence appears, it’s a bit wooly.

Wasn’t expecting one but thank you!
I thought The Alters demo was something special, so I will definitely check that out.
The strange conflict that’s happening over social media currently is the idea of Japanese games carries while everyone else wonders. In both ways, for and against, it’s weirdly racial, so I side with no one. I mean if people don’t like the show, they don’t like it; same applies vice versa. Why we have to go there? I mean are we seriously going to ignore Split Fiction, Expedition freaking 33? Let’s just agree to disagree.
Did last years SoP have their big three, Concord, Marathon, and Fairgame$ ?
Haven’t played the two games yet, is this a good thing for W4?
That was Showcase, so far the last showcase.
It does make the game much slower to play, the combat can take forever at times… Unsure if the second one is much different as not got round to it yet.
It’s great in many ways, but I don’t want the Witcher 4 to be KC3 - I like games to have their own systems and approaches (which is why I dislike the Souls-like approach more than just difficulty - it makes many games way too similar)
It was a complete borefest for me, I had already seen most (if not all) the games that were remotely interesting.
That said I can’t remember the last time I’ve enjoyed a Playstation show, even Keighley’s ad show is more interesting.
When Sony was getting glazed for their E3 of dreams presentations, it was because they had big NEW first party annoucnement and NEW third party announcements.
GeeOffs shows are certainly usurping a lot of the third party content due to the amount of eyeballs his shows get.
But Sony is also dropping the ball with first party. Which is why the shows are falling flat. All of the games shown look good. But Im not going to do cartwheels around my living room for a new Lumines and seeing MGS3 for the fifth time.
They’ve been dropping the ball for years with cover from the media
Their third party announcements were huge titles. Nothing against the ones that were announced yesterday, but significant of its name, brand, etc. truly shines. Pragmata was probably Capcom giving them a leftover although they did introduce Pragmata back in old showcase. I think? Anyway, it largely played safe.
Having SGF 2024 playing in the background. Things that need to drop:
- Geoff talking, not leaving them to do the talking.
- Leave the interviews other times especially for a two hour show ended up over 3.
- Don’t overhype; applied to first one.
Funny to see Lego Horizon to open the show. Of course Geoff would open it.
When is game fest?
Tomorrow at 5 pm eastern time.
