While the GP’s fast growth on PC is starting to be more noticeable on Steam CCU, recent games like Expedition or Oblivion Remastered did great numbers.
But MS’s pricing strategy specially on Steam is getting a bit out of hand, doing a quick search, pretty much every big hitter on that store in the last 5 years has been 60€ or less, and some of them were really big projects, probably the only exception is MH Wilds, and even that wasn’t 80€.
And MS is even planning to go into the 90€ territory in the next months.
So honestly while i hope a lot of people get GP to play Doom or even buy it on PS5 or whatever, i’ll be glad if it bombs on Steam, just like with every other 80€ (or 90€…) game, as soon as a few of these do great, it’ll become the common price for AAA’s
I’m glad that people are actually fighting it, but Doom’s launch on Steam shows that there are enough people out there willing to spend the money on launch.
I get your point. I buy a few games on steam but tend to use CDkeys and GG deals. I think you could just use Game pass to play these games and buy them when they go on sale.
No doubt the price and frequency of releases is certainly pushing Game Pass which is starting to look more like a platform standing by itself.
If they pull of the blending of Xbox/PC ecosystems, this should change the industry forever… but I’m also expecting the same resistance from the propaganda machine as we saw with Game Pass.
