In all honesty, I donât know why so many people (mainly Xbox fans) get surprised, shocked or outraged by any of this when it should already be known. More importantly, for those who say that they donât care about The Game Awards and see it as a joke, thereâs no reason then for these same people to complain about it every year.
I stopped caring at The Game Awards years ago. I just want to see the game trailers, new reveals and release dates. Donât care who wins or loses.
Agreed. Iâm not even sure the game awards marketing does much. Microsoftâs This is an Xbox AD has generated more for them than all the Game Awards put together have done.
Probably has but The Game Awards does get over 100m viewers every year which is more than Sony/Microsoft/Nintendoâs shows combined. And this doesnât include those who may re-watch the trailer like I do or those who missed it, hear about it and then go watch it.
Counterpoint: maybe not everyone thinks the way you do, and maybe fans have every right to demand and expect better. Last I checked, nothing changed in the world from some idiot staying silent.

It gets viewers but it feels like the viewers it gets are either solely gamers or they are just viewrs that donât partake much in gaming. You would think the marketing here would be able to guarantee strong sales from the games, but it doesnât. Most people I know donât even know about Keighleyâs game awards
Also a constant reminder that the zeitgeist does not reflect the average consumer⌠otherwise Sony would be selling more than Nintendo and Xbox combined, but well theyâre putting games on other platforms for a reason (not a debate, the usual poster can leave the âwater isnât wetâ at the door).
Itâs more about demanding better - if the Game Awards have that much reach or their âawardsâ on a gameâs marketing helps a consumer make a decision, it can make that go against Xbox.
We all know Xbox has had some amazing games in recent years - FH5, Starfield, HiFi Rush, Pentiment (even though it was small it got a great MC rating and was a really tight narrative) and Hellblade 2, not forgetting the technical marvel that is Flight Sim and many other games.
But they rarely get nominated for categories let alone GotY, and if someone is looking at consoles and totting up âmust playâ exclusive lists, if they go by Game Awards if looks like PlayStation has completely owned Xbox for a decade - which is bollocks.
Yes I can not care, as Microsoft are big enough to look after themselves, but given I want Xbox to do well so I get my Game Pass games the bias could affect me long term - and for that reason, biased gaming journalists and Keighley, as Iâve said before, can fuck all the way off lol
I donât disagree with you but people should know what TGA is by now. Every year people complain thinking that it will change the following year and yet, never does. If anything, itâs just a huge waste of time which could be better spent.
Perhaps. Unless they actually give out more detailed numbers, who knows for sure. I watch every year because I want to see the new trailers and whatnot. Iâll even order food when watching like I usually do for showcases. Itâs just another gaming showcase to me and the more a year I get to watch the better.
I agree completely but until if/when Keighley moves The Game Awards to February, includes the entire calendar year and actually has the categories and games in them make sense, I donât ever see it being âseriousâ. Itâs just an advertising/marketing show for publishers.
Xbox division is doing the best itâs ever done and if anything, their multi-platform strategy will only increase/improve the division because why try to get consumers to come to you when itâs clearly not working for them like they hoped when instead, you can go to them.
I would think thatâs my point unless youâre saying different. There is always the notion of being at the game Awards to get more eyes but it seems to me to be the same eyes otherwise if they were reaching more, then the results will show. In fact, not many of the big publishers use it for reveals anymore
