Digital Foundry has already covered this in depth based on the chip that is going into the switch 2. It’s a nice step up from the switch, but it is highly unlikely to do much over 1080p for typical games.
I think that’s fine for being a hybrid. However, I wish there was something that could make performance better when docked. I think my split for the switch was 70/30 in favour of playing docked
Reason why I believe the specifications will be their equivalent of an Xbox Series S is because Nintendo wants the third party AAA games that they either A) don’t get at all or B) get half decade later.
Also, wasn’t Switch 1 1080p/60fps docked? If so, I don’t see why jumping to 1440p with HDR is that much of a leap. The upgraded games though is more of a wish than an expectation.
HAHAHA. That’s just wrong and mean!!! lol
I’m not a handheld guy even though I did use the Switch OLED in handheld mode because it looked better on the OLED screen than it did on my LG CX OLED so I don’t have any interest in Xbox Portable but I am expecting Microsoft to do that instead of Series X/S. Basically, console is Series X and Portable is Series S.
If it’s streaming only, I see it being similar to PlayStation Portal - niche and for the hardcore only. It should be digital and streaming in my opinion. One thing I have always thought about is why handhelds never have an Ethernet 10/100/1000 port on it so you could download the games hardwired which would be a lot faster than wireless and allow you to play online co-op/MP with little to no lag if you’re unable to use the actual console hardware.
I agree. I’m pretty much 100% docked usage.
It won’t be. Series S is better than the PC portables that cost in the $600+ range and with terrible battery life.
It’ll be somewhere between a PS4 and a PS4 Pro more likely.
Furthermore, we’re talking about a company that’s never sold a console at a loss for the last two decades, and hasn’t bothered to go for anything remotely mid to high-end in just as long. I’m excited as hell for the next Switch, but not due to any performance or graphics expectations… and it would probably be wise to keep similar expectations
That sucks if that ends up being what it is. Not even an Xbox One X level? UGH. I do think it will be $400 so the specs should be close to worth that price. I know Nintendo won’t take a loss on the hardware but the profit doesn’t have to be massive either.
Does anyone know how much money Microsoft loses on every Series S that is sold? Reason I ask is because if it’s less than $100, I would think that Nintendo could pull it off having a stronger console, being $400 and still make a slight profit off each unit sold.
I can’t imagine Nintendo being let’s say a PS4 Pro in 2025. It would literally be two generations behind since there won’t be a Switch 3 until after 2030 at the earliest. Thinking about it, the Switch 2 should really be more powerful. Even if it was $500, I would rather spend extra money on the hardware for better specifications and in turn better looking and performing games.
I just have to wait and see. Come on Nintendo!!! I have faith in you guys!! lol
I don’t think you’re really thinking about anything beyond price and performance. The key limiters on a portable device are going to be power draw and size.
These problems can’t always be solved by raising the price. You ramp up the specs it draws more power and needs more cooling, this makes a larger device (this can be a deal breaker for a portable). It also will run through the battery quickly (also a deal breaker for a portable) so you need to have a larger one.
Designing hardware like this is basically making a set of trade offs between power, cost, size, and battery life.
To this day, I’m still bothered by “the graphic will wow you,” when talking about Wii graphic at E3. Reminder: This was said after Xbox showcased Gears of War.
Yeah, all true and I agree. 2013 PS4 it is then. lol
It will likely be better than a PS4. Not in raw compute but because it’s going to be in the ballpark and using a decade newer Nvidia GPU rendering features.
i wish
Remember when Switch couldn’t upscale content to a 4k TV? The Tegra inside it is capable of this feature btw. If you have a Switch and bought the newest fanciest TV you have to upscale twice and get worse image quality but someone at Nintendo was able to save a few cent.
And we all know Nintendo is already planning on doing something like this with Switch 2. We just dont know where.
While that’s an interesting example, It’s not really fair to say it’s saving a few cents when you look at them building something that they expect to sell tens of millions of units, at scale everything becomes a multi million dollar decision, if it’s a couple of bucks it’s a hundred million. Sometimes it’s the cost of the hardware, sometimes it’s licensing costs for things that are patented by others, or software dev costs. Consoles are all about building a device that is good enough for most things, but keeping costs down is definitely something they all look at really hard.
correct
I’m just saying. They are doing it again with the Switch 2. Nintendo are building hardware for their dev teams (and their bean counters), not for Digital Foundry. People always have over the top expectations.
100% agreed
It’s only going to be about their own games, and some of the games they got exclusivity deals for. Any other third party game I’ll continue buying for Xbox.
For anyone who has played Morrowind before, I’m having trouble getting Vivec’s Archcanon to give me the keys and an invitation to Vivec’s temple. Because all I can find is that we need to be Hortator and Neverine for all houses/clans, and then just say temple doctrine.
I have already done so, but whenever I talk to him, he says that temple doctrine says marks me as an enemy and a heretic. He refuses to talk to men even though he sent out a letter asking me to talk to him.
Have you ever gotten a pop up saying that someone you killed broke the strands of fate?
Only after I got tired of waiting and went to see Vivec on my own and he was like don’t talk me. So killed him, of course I reloaded afterwards so.
So you’re already visited the incarnate cave ? If so did you go back to Sul-Matuul ?
If it still doesn’t work raise your reputation to 50 and be lvl 20.
You could also just lockpick and go to talk with Vivec.
