Personal bugbear for me, but I would have played Elex 1 and 2 if I hadn’t read about how difficult they are. I don’t understand why RPG developers won’t put in an easy mode for people like me who just want to chill and enjoy the story.

Not that my purchase alone would have saved the studio… but this studio was purposely limiting their audience for no reason, and now here we are.

Both Elex games have multiple difficulty settings including an easy mode of course and Elex 2 even has a very easy mode.

Have you tried them? The impressions I read were that even on the lowest setting the games were still quite difficult. I haven’t tried for myself though.

If Xbox live crash, you know who to blame.

Basically, they’re open world, but enemies don’t scale - it’s extremely easy to walk into something you’re not ready for. Controls are bit janky (but they were close to finally figuring it out in E2). Gear progression is also slower and shorter than in most games. Even in the endgame you are not going to tank enemies, or mow them down with one-shots.

I remember a good friend of mine beating the 1st game on normal and not having any particular problems, he plays a lot of RPGs though. That being said I wasn’t aware that those games have the reputation of being that challenging though.

Always wanted to play the 1st game but never bought it even though I found some good deals for it, I am more intrigued to try it now to be honest and see how it plays. It has the fame of an old school WRPG though so I may be in trouble. :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly, I’m so used to everyone on the internet playing the tough guy and acting like games are way too easy for them, that on the rare occasion when someone actually says a game is too hard, I take it seriously.

Nope I’m no tough guy, getting older not younger so I play everything on the easiest setting and have no feelings of guilt for doing so. I play to have fun not to show off.

Sounds like Doom Eternal to me, even on easiest it kicked my ass, sheesh. :joy:

So I beat Doom Eternal on ā€œnormalā€, and between the beautiful backlog challenge and the new Doom announcement, I thought I’d finally go through the expansions. @ladyknottian can attest to the fact that I was stuck on one damn spot for a good hour before finally admitting myself that while I may be a smarter gamer than I was as a wee lad, I’m definitely a much slower one. That damn game requires reflexes and controller confidence that I just don’t seem to have anymore, even with a controller.

So you’re not alone, and at this point, I couldn’t give a shit about the achievements or bragging rights of beating on the hardest setting anymore…

Oh boy, that sounds promising, hahah. I’ve yet to start with the expansions, but I already know that difficulty won’t be changed, easy (or whatever they call it in Doom) will stay as it is. It’s kinda crazy how challenging it still is on the lowest difficulty. A friend of mine who isn’t a big gamer always asks me if a particular game has difficulty modes. Had I not played Eternal myself I easily could have recommended him that game because it has so many difficulty modes. But he would have gotten slaughtered, eaten up, shat out and eaten up again and again by the demons, lmfao.

Yeah with controller it’s probably way less ideal than with mouse and keyboard, I bet it’s way easier with that. And to think there are people that manage to finish the game on highest difficulty without being hit once. It’s total madness. But damn if Eternal isn’t one fantastic game. I expect greatness from the new one. Speaking of challenge, I’m curious, what is your stance on Sekiro? Or just FromSoft Souls games as a whole? I have a hard time going back to it, it’s like I’m just over the overly challenging shit in games. :pensive:

The first expansion was far and away the hardest thing I’ve ever played, on normal, before they retuned it when the 2nd expansion was launched.

I picked the perfect name, the music is also very good imo.

That makes me feel better Jesse, in my rant earlier, I forgot to mention that I had to drop to easy just to make it past the segment in question lol.

So don’t feel bad @Staffy

The Doom Eternal Expansions were the first time in my adult life I had to reckon with my own age and slowing reflexes. After a lifetime of ā€œgit gudā€ and ā€œpro stratsā€, I just didn’t have it anymore. I’ve bounced back on some other titles, but now that little voice in my head is there whispering to me that perhaps I’ve lost it with FPS’. We’ll see when the next Halo launches, if Legendary feels too difficult I’m just going to have to admit that I’m not who I once was.

Thanks Doom Eternal.

Well, that’s a good line.

ā€œYou don’t need an Xbox to play Xboxā€ is going to have cut through, despite how actually stupid it sounds.
