There was a stun/root ability used on the dragon before it’s poise was broken, so it’s likely that magic will play a major part on how to handle stronger enemies.

I loved Lies of P but it does feel like this genre is getting completely over saturated now

I tried playing it a while ago, and iirc it was even on easy and I couldn’t get past the first level. Maybe I did something wrong or I suck badly at it. However, even longer ago I bought NG2 and I got to the Venice like stage, flying fish enemies I think? 2 is probably easier.

Capcom, bro, just make a remake already.

I don’t like the definitive “X game is the best in the genre by far” takes but NGB is definitely up there in the pantheon of action games, it’s crazy how much new (amazing) content there is in the game that you can only see in the higher difficulties, TN knew very well that only a very small portion of the player base would experience that but they still did it…it’s also a game with great level design and an overall more action-adventure like approach to it than most character action games, sadly no other studio attempted this since then. It also looked and run bonkers on the OG Xbox, Team Ninja were on fire during the OG Xbox days.

NGB (NGII is also a god-tier game even with all it’s shortcomings) is a special game from another era that sadly is never coming back…at least we have the amazing BC version playable on the newer Xbox hardware so I guess it’s better than having this classic stuck on old hardware.

I thought they said Black Myth wasn’t a “Souls like”.

Sorry about that but NGB is it for me. I like 2 and the rest but black is just on another level it does help that I’m quite good at it too. It’s just pure fun that isn’t even carried by the story but just the relentless action. I would think if Itagaki was to do something with real publisher support it would be solid. Devil’s third was a victim of a host of problems, Don Mattrick shopped it around and THQ couldn’t continue with it as they were shutting down. The game that was in the end released was not what was shown in the trailer.

I can’t wait! That dragon design is nuts

But unfortunately we have to wait. Or will you be playing on PC or PS5? Fuck man, I hate it, but what can you do. Despite some doubts (still no console footage) I was really looking forward to it and a big chance I’d have gotten it day one.

Sigh.

Highly interested in both of these, especially Hinterberg!

Meh the knowledge it’s “Souls-adjacent” and not got difficulty levels means I’ve zero interest now.

Really wish this trend of what feels like more than half of AAA games now being “Souls-like” or having Souls-like combat to some extent would sod off already - thankfully I can still play more mainstream games or those where they add proper accessibility options (SteelRising being a great example), or stick with indies who’ve killed it in recent years…

Even games that don’t officially have “Souls-like” combat can have some insane difficulty spikes on occasions on what feels like a movement to stop their combat being labelled “dull”.

I actually really loved Immortals of Aveum but there’s a battle about 50 to 75% of the way through which regardless of how much I level up before it, even on easy I can’t get past it as it requires chaining together multiple dodges / jumps and magic types in quick succession - and my brain can’t process the right actions and get my hands to do them in the right time (not even the accessibility controller would help as it’s the brain overload and coordination I struggle with due to autism) and it pisses me off when I just can’t get any further - which is why Souls-like games without accessibility / difficulty levels can fuck right off and I won’t be wasting money just to piss myself off.

(While I will sometimes try those on Game Pass at least, like I may try Flintlock, I’m still a bit wary as I don’t want to start enjoying the story then realise I can’t get any further).

On the plus side, I got Aveum on the 90% off deal and when I looked up the rest of the story online it was a bit predictable and way too long so felt slightly better - the other option would have involved getting my partner used to the Xbox controller to get me through it!

Anyone has an issue?

I wonder how long Sony (allegedly) paid to keep this game away from Xbox.

Moderatly excited for this one. GP is great for this kind of games. It’s hard to make strategy and town building attractive.

I will probably be playing on PS5 (I am a console player).

Meanwhile Xbox can do a Game Pass deal with the developers when the game releases on the platform

I’m a Patient Gamer™, so I’m not disappointed with the delay
