I have way too much to play from either backlog or from new games constantly being thrown into GP that all these moneyhats/timed exclusive deals mean absolutely nothing to me

I think this is the best way to modernise it. Make it like Burnout Paradise or Forza Horizon and I’m there.q

The OG is a very shallow arcade game, this feels like realistic direction for it

I’m just sick of the amount of Souls clones that are simply terrible - many have the depth of a street puddle and often hide behind pretty visuals. Nothing that I have seen so far of this game gives me any confidence that it’s anything other than another poorly-made cash grab attempt :man_shrugging:

For Sony’s part, they do what they’ve done all generation - see a game that was already confirmed to be launching on Xbox, then money hatting it because it can distract from their inarguably dismal output this generation, whilst giving the acolytes the absurd console warring fodder they need (media not excluded here).

In a world where shit like today happens, I am just amazed at the ability for some people to make drama out of the most trivial, drama-less hobbies.

I was gonna say, I have fond memories of playing Crazy Taxi in the arcade and on my Dreamcast, but in today’s day and age that isn’t the type of thing that can justify a full price title. Something similar to the original arcade game would barely constitute a AA game these days.

And I say that as a lover of all things Sega.

Yep while I obviously don’t get to play many of them, SteelRising was interesting to me (and not just because I could actually play it) because it had a unique fantasy story set around a real historic event, that despite not having the best looking / varied engine still made it stand out.

The rich storytelling combined with real history of the (obviously not sentient) automatons from that era was fascinating.

Unfortunately publishers now seem to chase trends, so I fear we’re going to get a lot more uninspired clones before it gets better again.

As for news like today (and yesterday in France) I see it as similar to the lurch the UK took since the Brexit vote and before - and I hope like the UK will hopefully do on Thursday, eventually things will come back towards normality (although the Supreme Court will take a while to retire and have their decisions reversed unfortunately).

So I have some hope - I honestly thought the UK was lost for generations but incompetence and corruption turned it around faster than that, and while that Project 25 if Trump wins would be horrifically partisan junk it would also likely break a lot of stuff enough that it may have a similar effect.

As for video games, unfortunately they’ve become yet another area for division, arguments and in particular tribal warfare - whether over platforms or politics, every little thing pored over as ammunition.

It’s always been so, but agreed it’s definitely got worse and isn’t helped when certain companies stoke the fires to appease their fanboys and stop them taking a rational, unbiased look at the offering from their rival, and being tempted…

Didn’t specify which game but one would assume 9 since the director did work on 7.

Demo? Oh I like me a demo, always!

Maybe I’ll give Dead Rising yet another chance to click with me. I was conflicted about this remake because there were some things that kept me from loving the original despite really wanting to , that they appear to be addressing according to the press release.

I bought 1-3 and they always started off good but I never ended any of them. With the original the issue with Saving. ( If I remember correctly it could only be done at a certain time or something like that) Maybe I’ll finally end it this time.

I believe there were save points, so you couldn’t just save anywhere. I thought it added some tension having to get back to a safe area to save.

At the time I just found it inconvenient.

I agree completely and Steel Rising is a great game!!!

Completely agree on all fronts, including Steelrising (Lies of P too imo). There are definitely some good ones and I don’t mind some copying of mechanics (it’s happened since the dawn of creativity), I just don’t want every game to be Soulslike or have Soulslike mechanics (looking at you AC). I especially don’t want them because few devs really hit the points that From does so well, especially in their world-building.

I cannot tell you how happy I’ve been with Capcom the last few years (far cry from my opinion during their 2008-2016 era), so I’m excited for all these projects. One of the only pubs/devs I’ve broken my no-buying rule for the backlog challenge this year and it’s precisely because they also gave much of their staff raises and bonuses while the rest of the industry has…. well.

And dlc is FINISHED!

The final boss was tough, I fought him constantly making no progress with getting to 2nd phase a total of 3 times.

It was impossible for me to beat him on my own, but I couldn’t summon anyone to help because the boss has a big old bone to pick with me and wouldn’t leave me the F alone. But during this final fight I got him to second phase, got far and summoned my mimic. Who as I was panic rolling away stabbed him back, because it’s fun and easy.

The mimic truly is the real Elden Lord!
