I know I bitch a lot about anti-Xbox bias in the media, but it is annoying when Xbox does a great showcase and people are sniping eager to try and bring the mood back down.
GameFile I subscribe to as Totilo is generally pretty neutral - but his coverage of the showcase was âXbox did a great showcase but avoided the giant elephants in the roomâ about closures and multi-platform.
He did not call out the Sony State of Play for not mentioning the closure of London Studio, or for not being 100% on games going to PC or Switch.
What did he expect, Xbox would have a screen saying âyep sorry for the closures, oh wellâ and include PlayStation logos everywhere?!
Heâs lost my sub anyway, Iâm getting fed up to the back teeth of bias in the media - conscious or not.
Xbox has way more exclusive games coming than PlayStation, and yes it has more new stuff going to PlayStation than Sony themselves do - Xbox is now huge and can do both, still be a huge publisher and make Xbox an attractive place to play (particularly with Game Pass), even Sony fans are wishing for Sony to do a showcase like that.
But while some PS sites are admitting that, the âunbiasedâ non-platform specific gaming sites are looking for any negative they can think of

Heâll probably think Iâm a childish console warrior given I only had one sentence to say why I was cancelling my paid sub, but itâs very much an ongoing issue after he gushes over Sony and Nintendo stuff, admitted he âstruggled with liking Hellblade 2 because of the parent companyâ and is yet another gaming media figure who doesnât seem to have any issue with Sony moneyhatting games but either doesnât like Xbox having exclusives or specifically calls out âonly exclusive for 3 / 6 / 12 monthsâ for them which he never does on the Sony onesâŚ
Iâm just through bothering with gaming media that thinks itâs trendy to rag on Xbox - even Xbox sites are repeating the lie âMicrosoft needs to recoup their $70bnâ (they donât, they acquired an asset worth the same as the cash they spent, and it generates cash each year anyway).
Iâve got so much to play (and so much coming up) given my limited free time for gaming that Iâm already re-considering the thought of getting a Pro (given I always get both usually) as Iâm not sure thereâs a âmust playâ game on PS for me at the momentâŚ

Did State of Play address London closure? If not, I donât see why this is an issue. I mean I get it, it truly sucks for those folks who lost their job, let alone a studio, but this was expected. Unless itâs a worldwide catastrophe like 9/11 or Covid-19 or really damaging image that is working with predators or criminals, this rarely if not ever gets addressed in these media. Donât expect it from Xbox, Sony, or even Nintendo.

Exactly - Totilo did say âthese werenât addressed, unsurprisinglyâ but he sent it out before the IGN interview anyway which would have been the obvious place for these to be discussed.
So to even mention it when talking about the showcase, when he didnât mention closures / lay offs when talking about the State of Play (or even mention all the live service games being cancelled) struck me as particularly odd.
It just feels like so much of the gaming media has to be âyeah Xbox did this great thing, butâŚâ

I agree, but itâs kinda hard when you turn on a Youtube stream and the streamer is going out of their way to be negative on what was a great show. Similar happened when I watched a stream where the guy is going on and on about the studio closings and how MS execs arenât talking about it and Geoff did the bare minimum and mentioned the layoffs hitting the industry but MS didnât. Basically went out of his way to downplay the rest of the show no matter what was presented.
Also funny he brought up Geoff and not Sony not bringing up the closure of London Studio at State of Play and I bet he never once brought that shit up throughout streaming that.
I just ask for a bit of consistency with Youtubers and gaming media âkeep that same energy as they sayâ but I should know what to expect from people who stream everything on PS and even when they play an Xbox games they play it on PC using a Dualsense.
Doesnât change the fact that Xbox had an amazing show yesterday.

Totally agree its getting harder reading some of these topics here for the geniune excitement about games and playing them without seeing something negative being brought up or something we need to be worried about being dropped in.
No ones going to change whatever Microsoft decide to do but lets just enjoy the games for what they are and we have a hell of a feast over the next 12 to 18 months so who cares what clicky mcclickbait on twitter says.
Sorry but its a great place but sometimes just gets frustrating after a great showcase. Going to stick to backlog topic for a while as negative narratives just drain the fun out of games and playing.

I hope the second batch of GP will have a good amount of ABK. I get all the possible reasons they arenât going Bethesda on us, that they might want to spread it out way more compared to that. However, the first batch this month lacks any ABK at all.
I agree. If i was the head of Xbox i would be launching one or two COD games a month so it can generate hype for Black Ops.
Also i think we will be getting a slew of Toys for Bob games on the second batch if my guts is correct.
