I hope this is not late 2025, I need this!

So YouTube was recommending a video by some Juice head guy(was even about to auto play it), with the title being ā€œmy actual thoughtsā€¦ā€.

Safe to say I scrolled down and hit don’t recommend, as the whole set up for the video felt like bait to get me to watch a grifter video.

You know, Jesse of XboxEra mentioned in a podcast (I think it’s the prediction discussion) that presentation is key to sell the game. Like he compared Wilds from Sony’s show being just there to SGF where it gives you the thrills of monster hunting. That said this game sold me thanks to the showcase presentation.

You can get this on Xbox now. Time to play Star Wars (apparently).

As a huge MGS fan I was pretty worried about this game but it seems like they are essentially making it a 1 to 1 of the OG, just making it way prettier and maybe adding some MGSV style mechanics, that’s all I wanted tbh

Looks excellent

If I there is one thing that I can nitpick about it’s the overall look. ( I had the same issue with the Demon’s Souls remake) I wish they would have kept the over mood/ color grading from the original game.

Oh man how I wish these NEW Xbox consoles actually were similar to a Pro. I know they clearly have their reasons for not to, but I’m a consumer and I honestly don’t care much for those reasons. Assuming the Pro is real it’s a very real possibility I might buy the new Doom for that. It will depend on how much better it looks on that.

Having it for ā€œfreeā€ on Game Pass of course is fantastic, but not the end all be all for me if differences visually or framerate wise are big. Time will tell.

If they launch next gen in 2026 then screw a Pro IMO. If it’s 2028 then they probably should have done one.

The pricing on these consoles should tell you that the Pro is going to be a niche non-factor. The 2TB galaxy Series X is $600. What do you think a PS5 Pro with more advanced hardware is going to be.

Release a new box in 2026 or so that is drastically more powerful than a Pro.

Diminishing returns is going to become more and more prevalent as well.

Agreed - if next gen is 2026, then given my backlog and the amount of time I actually have free to play games (it’s not time that I’m on here, as that’s normally during work :stuck_out_tongue: ) I’m thinking I’ll still have a couple of the 2025 games left to play anyway and I can enjoy them on the new box.

If it’s further out, then I’d love a souped up box - they can charge an arm and a leg for it, I’d happily pay more for an Xbox that can attempt 4K and ray-tracing (don’t really care about frame rate, I grew up on PAL TVs so can’t tell!).

Saying that though, most of the games are going to be highly optimised for Xbox Series X and will do 4K/30, which is all I want - while a more powerful box to power through bits of slowdown (Banishers for example in snowy sections can snarl up briefly) I suspect if devs used the Velocity architecture it wouldn’t be needed anyway (and so may still happen on a ā€œProā€ model).

I’m really struggling to justify a PS5 now, which I thought was an easy buy given I always get a PS eventually (and given the lateness would probably grab a Pro) - but the friends I play on PS with now mostly play single player stuff, Sony haven’t really released much I can’t play on my PS4 that I really want to play, and there’s so much coming on Xbox (particularly on Game Pass) that I want to play / try that I’m not sure I’d ever have time to switch it on…

PS: I realise I have basically just told Xbox to come gouge me on pricing a high-end model even though I don’t need it - but oh well, they give me a steal with Game Pass so I’ll happily buy any new fancy stuff they want to send my way!

Essentially, this developer studio answered on the choice between action and turn based:

This. I easily prefer a next generation console in two years instead of a mid-gen console this year and next generation console in four years.

Agreed with that. But that’s the big question, is it truly gonna be late 2026? Because if not, fuck.

Wait, this is real-time and TB? Because then I will be 100% on board. TB only…not likely.

This looks interesting, not sure if it was announced previously but I might check it out

I think I know who you are talking about. Bit of a shame since it hurts the facade of objectify his content had. Not surprised to see him be salty about it though lol.

In a world where 50% of users are still happy with their last-gen consoles and most games are still being released for them, a Pro makes very little sense to me. Especially since the consoles were actually quite powerful on release this time, unlike past generations.

I expect the PS5 Pro will be $649 - $699. Most buyers will be enthusiasts replacing their base PS5s. Which means zero benefit for Sony, beyond boasting about more consoles sold. I don’t think Microsoft sees any point in playing that game right now.
