Isn’t tomorrow their financial report. Seems like those reports will be telling quite a bit. Sony has gone from just over 170 billion market Cap to about 92 billion since ABK merger announcement. I’m not sure Hulst is any better than Jim not to mention the role was given to 2 as if he needs to be managed or Sony Japan needs to have someone there. I do wish them luck though, but it is now clear that TV, movies and other forms of entertainment is a part of how Sony intends to move forward which probably factors in with Paramount acquisition.
I don’t think the Playstation segment is impacting their stock price.
It’s the Paramount buyout and poor mobile phone sector.
Expected safe choice for CEO.
Apparently there’s a non Back-Compat Xbox 360 sale - the store is shutting down in a little under 3 months but purchased items will still work on the 360.
Oh, the PlayStation had a big effect on their Stock when ABK was announced. It was quite a thing, they lost 20 billion in stock value. last quarter financial results of a weak margins and PS5 cuts saw 10 billion dollars wiped from their market Cap. There are obviously other things like the Paramount buy like you said.
While PS does affect stock, I believe the past recent ones are due to what you said, though it sure dropped a lot over it. Tomorrow will be interesting, especially when all their big cards for gaming is used.
CFO’s certainly a big thing in gaming now. Maybe will get the announcement of the next PlayStation showcase after the financial reporting.
Splitting the PlayStation business in such a way that two heads of business both answer to the Sony CFO/COO signals additional oversight and responsibility to the corporate balance sheet.
It’s hard to say how this plays out, but it kind of reads to me like Hiroki will be putting more scrutiny on the P&L of the studio/content side of things. And I imagine his prior comments about aggressively pursuing PC development will move forward.
Fixed that for you bud. lol
Joking aside, I loved Odyssey just as much as Origins. Valhalla though just didn’t click with me as much as Origins/Odyssey did. I loved the Viking setup but wasn’t into the supernatural type stuff in the game, the combat and gameplay wasn’t fluid, smooth or responsive like it was in Origins/Odyssey and just felt clunky at all times. I played through the main story campaign, did all the viewpoints so I could fast travel and the raids since you need the resources for the settlement. Did the same for both expansions.
Mirage is good but im not into the old school AC. Black Flag/Rogue is as old school as im going with AC. If you’re into the older AC games, you’ll probably enjoy Mirage a lot more than I did.
I’m hoping that the combat/gameplay in Shadows is more like Origins/Odyssey than Valhalla. Also hoping they didn’t remove the free climbing like they did in Mirage because I can’t go back to that. Every open world game in which free climbing fits should have it over having to look for ledges and whatnot because it’s so damn annoying.
But still, im looking forward to seeing the gameplay trailer at Ubisoft Forward since the trailer in two days is cinematic.
As a PlayStation fan, im surprised that he got the job but im glad that it’s someone who worked in a studio and managed Guerrilla and knows gaming as opposed to a corporate suit like Jim Ryan. The other guy will handle all the other stuff.
We’ll see how it plays out. Like Ryan and many others before him, he’s being handed a dominant world wide brand in gaming so as long as he doesn’t screw it all up, should be good for PlayStation gamers like myself.
I guess they needed two CEO’s to harness the power of their SSD.
They pretty much did what Xbox did last year. One person handling platform like Sarah Bond and the other handling games like Matt Booty. The games under Hulst hasn’t been really anything to write home about. His push was for his former studio to be in lead when it comes to games. So I’ll say expect more Horizon like games and maybe a push into South Korea. Seeing him also with Kojima on that movie set makes me believe this will be his main push into other kinds of media.
Has Phil sent his usual congratulations yet?
Game wise, I haven’t had any issues with Sony’s game under Hulst. Miles, Spider Man 2, HFW and Ratchet were all a 9/10 with GOWR being a 9.5/10 and my 2022 game of the year so no complaints whatsoever thus far.
I’m expecting a third Horizon game in 2028 and im looking forward to seeing the rumored MMORPG from NC Soft. I also like that Sony is getting games from China and India. Expand and broaden their reach to get new games from new studios. No interest in Death Stranding 2 (or Overdose with Microsoft) but im very interested in seeing what Physint turns out to be even though I know it’s a next generation PlayStation 6 title which is fine by me.
Thus far this generation, I haven’t had any issues with Sony’s released games and have already surpassed what they gave me in the same time frame during the PlayStation 4 generation.
Good for you. To me it feels like we are still in the ps4 generation. I do like their interest in China and Asia. I kinda feel they don’t have a choice in the matter though as games are pretty expensive and relatively cheaper in Asia. Still waiting for Lost Soul Aside. However I would simply like Xbox idea of all platforms becoming digital storefonts that can all be played on a single box so I hope that works out.
The games are simply better versions of last generation but I see this in general with gaming. There’s rarely any revolutionary games whatsoever and when there is, it’s usually a Rockstar or Nintendo that pulls it off. I’m waiting to see more of Lost Soul Aside as well. As for the Microsoft idea of having storefronts on their console, that all remains to be seen as it’s simply way too early to know if any of that happens and if so, how any of it will work.
Actually, Sony said they shipped 20.8, not sold as we know it, so minor correction on Toms tweet. (Sell-in is shipped, sell-through is sold)
Sony’s PS5 sales are down 29% year-over-year in the recent Q. Sony also says it sold 20.8 million PS5 consoles for its full 2023 fiscal year, a slight miss on its revised target of 21 million units. Sony now expects PS5 sales to decline to 18 million over the FY24 fiscal year
yeah, no wonder they are pivoting
I am glad about the SE news.
This will mean the next Dragon Quest will come to Xbox, also the new Kingdom Hearts. And who knows, maybe some older stuff we missed out on such as Trials of Mana. I’d like that!
Speaking of, wonder when we get a concrete date for Visions of Mana, it’s still at “summer”. A new trailer with date at Xbox show, I can see that.
