Do you guys use elite controllers or standard controllers?
Standard but I really want to get a controller with paddles eventually
Capcom and Sega seem perfectly fine with their strategy.
The stupid thing about the FF sales argument is ignoring the growth margins from multiplatform releases, platform marketing is important. Yes, Final Fantasy will probably always sell best on PS, but being everywhere else consistently will not just grow the IPs fanbase on those platforms, but also increase the overall marketing and word of mouth for the IP and will increase sales even on PS.
Elite V2 here, Master Chief edition. Controller feels much better in hand, more sturdy, than the standard version. I donât even use the paddles, but I really enjoy being able to adjust the tension and length of the sticks, and just everything about it feels premium and, to me at least, I think it helps with my gaming performance.
Two Series S standard controller ls here, and one Hyperkin Xenon wired.
Series 2 Halo Infinite edition Elite. Got it at launch and still trucking along like a champ. (knocks on wood)
From the looks of things, there was at least a 72% drop-off between FF7R Part 1 and FF&R Part 2; over 7 million compared to around 2 million. Thatâs a huge cliff.
Elite Controllers.
Always amusing seeing people shit on 4 and constantly claim itâs been forgotten
Then you look at the steam charts alone and even before the show was hitting like 20k concurrent everyday 9 years later after release
But even for that 7 million, it did 5 in the first 5 or so months on the ps4 and then 3 years later had only sold 2 million more total. It seems like it kind of fell off on its own even before this one.
I suppose it wasnât expected to sell as much as Remake but the steep fall off is interesting considering how a lot of JRPGS did well during the same time period.
Oh, right. I forgot part of that 7 million is possibly reselling to the same consumers.
In all honesty, comparing Rebirth to Remake isnât a fair comparison because youâre comparing Remake which released in April 2020 to a PlayStation 4 install base of around 110m compared to the 55m or so on PlayStation 5 and there was also the Intergrade edition 14 months later on PlayStation 5 which probably boosted the sales. Not only that but comparing sales for a game thatâs been available for purchase for four years compared to a game thatâs only been available for less than two months is again, not a fair comparison.
Should Square Enix copy Capcom and Sega by releasing their games on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch and PC if possible? Absolutely but too many people are making a mountain out of a mole hill when the comparisons arenât fair, even or accurate.
If in four years from now, itâs 7m+ for Remake/Intergrade and say 3m+ for Rebirth, then by all means, itâs 100% fair and accurate but as of right now, it simply isnât.
As for Rebirth itself, 140+ hours later, itâs an excellent 9.0/10 and my current 2024 game of the year. Loved the game for the most part with my biggest negative being the optional side content but I rarely go hard on games in this regard, because they all have this negative. Itâs very rare an open world game doesnât have this issue. Looking forward to the final part in Spring 2028 as I donât believe 2027 will happen.
The issue is that the exclusivity is a bad deal for both with these types of numbers, and further proof of why the industry is moving away from it.
None of us know what the sales will be in four years from now. And what happens if the third installment due to the PlayStation 5 user install base being doubled what it is now sells what Remake sold?
I agree that Square Enix should release their games everywhere but in all honesty Jesse, just using this forum as an example, I realize that if itâs not on Game Pass, no one cares regardless of what game it is. There were perhaps a handful of people here playing Cyberpunk, Ubisoft games, Elden Ring, etc. but other than that, I never see anyone talk about newly released games that theyâre playing because they donât buy them so while in general, they would get more sales by default just by being available on Xbox, itâs not like Square Enix would be blown away by the numbers from Xbox owners.
I believe the game is tracking at about 50% of Remake at the same point in its life, so itâs pretty bad. Not 75% bad, but bad.
I donât really buy the PS4 was twice the user base that PS5 is so the game should sell half as much because I think the type of people buying FF7 are hardcore who arenât buying consoles 6+ years into their lifetime, they are early adopters.
