State of play was at a ridiculous time for me so only just caught up with it. Thought it was OK, will definitely pick up rise of ronin, Judas and dragons dogma 2 and will keep an eye out for V rising. I’m not a big fan of the whole very long Kojima cinematics thing so DS 1/2 are games I’m likely never going to play and the only other thing that might interest me is stellar blade but the whole anime cliche on the protagonist is sort of putting me off. My interest in this SOE was mainly the third party stuff playstation marketed for

So checked the State of Play and it’s easily Sony’s best show since the 2021 showcase. It’s straight up, a lot of cool looking games that the PS audience likes. Me personally I get tired of the mold of that Sony game expectations and feels so predictable at this point but if people like it, they like it. As an Xbox fan I can’t find anything to be salty about it really, no money hats (new ones at least) and SH2 doesn’t look like something to be mad about skipping Xbox tbh.
As I said a while, this year PS5 exclusives is actually a good lineup and better than last year, the problem is just the narrative that only first party matters, is now not gonna matter because PS is being carried by 3rd party stuff lol.

I just found out about Ballistic Moon. They were teaming with Sony on a game and they have people that worked on Until Dawn before. One would think a sequel or its successor would happen. Instead, it’s a remake or remastered on steroid. I can’t say it’s bad but definitely prefer a new game.
I really hope this turns out good. Love what I’m hearing.

They are not motivated by a console war, they are just facts, that almost no one played the first one on ps4/ps5 and will not play the second one, and even then there will be dramatic Xbox fans to complain about the lack of games like this from MS.

Yeah I thought it was a solid show, I thought DS2 looked amazing and I adored the first one so I’m probably going to end up buying a PS next year for it but I really don’t have any interest in the rest of their library sadly, it was the same last gen too for me

Yeah I think it’s pretty good for a State of Play, but Sony is starting to feel some of that Microsoft energy where the emotions of the failure of their internal studios to get games out is impacting people’s Judgement.
Looked at purely as a State of Play, there was nothing wrong with it.

I liked it a lot last gen but at one point I started noticing the patterns of similarity… like, while there’s undeniable incredible production in there, it feels like there’s stuff that repeats and is adopted across most of their games. I wouldn’t call it a formula, but definitely pronounced ingredients that are always there are almost distracting to me.

It does seem paltry in light of some games offering free weekends, but in their defense this is a 17 hour game. So two hours lets you complete more than 10% of it, which seems enough for anyone to make up their mind. If they offered a whole weekend, or even one day, there’s lots of people who would simply beat it during that period.

Yeah it’s the same for me, everything just feels a bit too similar and formulaic, Kojima gets a pass for me because he’s made my favourite games ever, has been doing the cinematic thing since 98 and despite being third person/cinematic etc his games are unlike anything else in the industry which is extremely rare at the AAA level
The rest just feels like stuff I’v already experienced before but with incredible presentation and production
