XboxEra Community Hangout |OT11| It Goes To 11!

I feel the headline is a bit more controversial than what it is:

When I saw the headline I thought “character artwork” or something more vital.

That said I know many are 0 tolerance and that someone could have been paid to do this for “real”. Saw a good point that Splatoon did the “world building” with stuff like this really well but just leaving it to AI can make it seem like they don’t really care about that aspect.

there it is

For the record, is this a reliable source as Insider Gaming (when they report it themselves)?

no idea

Well, he placed his card. We’ll see if he wins the game.

(Maybe)

Nice! I will check it out tomorrow.

Damn, kinda a bummer if those mofos spoiled a nice surprise. Release date for that game could have been anything, like holiday this year for example. But it’s not certain yet. If it is true, I can see Avowed maybe being holiday, or sooner since it IS getting a deep dive. Not that a deep dive necessarily means it has to drop soon.

False alarm.

FFXIV isn’t out yet on Xbox. Still slated on February. That said we now know its progress will carry over. It’s basically free trail early access whatever that means. In short, play it without worrying about beta.

That’s too bad, was looking forward to checking out the beta tomorrow. Ah well.

In other news.

I still got the cool winter theme, really dig it.

That’s damn late though. Genuine question, why do we think it’s taking quite a while, compared to how incredibly fast we had the first Zenimax games? The deal is done, so what is the hold up?

The only thing I can think of is issues with porting over the games to Windows store.

Hmm, then I’d say just bring it to console first but I guess they really want to do pc and console simultaneously.

There was talk about them doing work in advance with Zenimax deal because there was no risk to it going through.

The discourse over this interview over the last 24 hours or so has been truly bizarre:

The journalists that have covered it have pushed the agenda with one line from the interview being the headline for most of the articles I’ve seen:

So it’s about feeling comfortable with not owning your game.

Especially when earlier in the interview the head of ubisofts subscriptions says:

“The point is not to force users to go down one route or another,” he explains. “We offer purchase, we offer subscription, and it’s the gamer’s preference that is important here. We are seeing some people who buy choosing to subscribe now, but it all works.”

I get the need for click bait headlines but this sort of BS does such a disservice to gaming in general. I was thinking about it and I don’t think I’ve ever replayed a ubisoft game in the last decade or more so being able to just pay for a month and playing the game on release would work for me and probably plenty of other people

IMO this is a pretty unethical use. Like you said it was an opportunity to not pay someone for their work.

Where AI can shine is to leverage the work of the existing developers. So for example if I’m making a GTA clone but I want every single building to be accessible, with every single room being fully detailed, What I can do is have my artists create example rooms for the purpose (residential, office, healthcare, etc) and then use AI to generate all of that content from their work.

With costs of game development increasing stuff like this are great ways where AI can help out. But how we’re seeing it, in practice, are corporations trying to cut out creative people from their work instead of leveraging their work to create something larger and more expansive.

There’s so much opportunity for AI in the gaming space and it’s sad to see it squandered on using it to not pay artists instead of making games better.
