I really dislike the idea of an open world Gears game, I am kind of open world burnt out though. Halo became open world and that bummed me out and if Gears does it too i’ll be sad.

I don’t think open world is bad I just, I don’t want everything to be. More games become open world, just means I might not play it. Open world usually means bloated or over long playtime which in my age, I have less playtime in general.

That said, I feel like the team could make a killer one and thats exciting for others.

I get a little excited when they say new controller and then immediately disappointed when its just a new art style.

I’m looking for that actually new physical controller that leads to a new Xbox Elite V3 controller.

I think your interpretation of what open world means might be the more correct one. For example, being comparable to Assassin’s Creed or GTA. Or even Halo Infinite. And I totally agree if that’s the case.

My mind jumped to games like Metroid Prime where all areas are connected but the experience, while open-ended, is made more linear because of areas that need to be unlocked through play. I’m thinking my mind jumped to that because Gears 5 had portions where you would collect a key to unlock a certain area, going back and forth between a few established places. If we’re looking to that as a taste of things to come, that’s where I’m ok with it. Like a Metroidvania.

It could be cool if you were a COG DeeBee and were able to upgrade your abilities. By the end you’re a supersoldier and then able to join the human ranks.

Metroidvania titles, whether 2D or 3D, are definitely open exploration games where it isn’t exactly completely open world, but it also isn’t linear either. That’s the sort of “open-world” I’d like. Where you can progress in multiple ways that reward exploration but are still funneled by unattainable areas.

It’s interesting to see how games approach this balance. Jedi Fallen Order was a game that was a bit more linear in this respect, but still fairly open in ways to progress in a level. Hollow Knight was pretty open in letting you go anywhere that you could go and wasn’t as “linear” (using the term loosely) as, say, Ori that had locked gates to confine you to certain areas.

Still, in the most “open” Metroidvania titles, there were still a finite amount of paths. It’s not like they dropped you onto a Fortnite island sized map and let you go everywhere.

But yeah if it’s going to be more like GTA, Ass Creed, Grounded, etc. I don’t think it will serve the gameplay well. That, and the lack of direction can be frustrating or overwhelming. So I 100% agree with you in that sense.

Same.

I want something more like the DualSense

Well thats the thing with Metroid Prime its not really open world. Its a connected world but you can’t really go wherever you want from the start. There is a mostly linear way to play it, with backtracking.

If it was like Metroid Prime I am down because there is lots of optional content but at the same time you aren’t forced to constantly waste time traveling.

I abuse fast travel systems so much in open world games ESPECIALLY now with faster load times.

Monkey’s Paw Wish: new controllers limited to 6 hours battery life… :troll:

True that.

That would actually warrant being called a new controller. I’d love for regular controllers to get things like paddles and the option to customize the buttons. I can’t play without the paddle anymore. It’s ideal.

I had no idea this already released.

This is the studio’s last game. :frowning:

Seems to be a damned good one.

It’s a great game. A real shame for the devs.

If they’re still able to stick with AA batteries it shouldn’t be an issue. Battery life will obviously suffer some but should still be somewhere between 10-20 hours depending on battery capacity and power draw of the controller.

Yeah, very sad. But I get the reasons they gave.

I can’t wait for the Spoiler Free Forza thread. We’ll have trouble keeping that one on track. Not enough ground force. … I’ll see myself out.

6? That was generous… :joy:

Fatshark has hooked me with Vermintide 2 gameplay and how they’ve presented the Warhammer environment. PC quirks and initial launch issues aside, I’m still looking forward to mutilating (and being mutilated by) the forces of Chaos in Darktide with my son and his friends!
