Videogame journalism really is shit these days. I mean, I guess it always was, but it seems so mindless and pointless now. I can’t imagine why anyone would click on an article about a game the writer hasn’t played that compares it to another game the writer hasn’t played. What possible useful information are you realistically supposed to glean from it? The fact that the games are in different genres and are aiming for two completely different experiences makes the comparison even more so pointless.
There’s that middle section between hobbyist (who doesn’t do it for a living) and professional journalist (who does it for a living for a large-ish publication) where you’re kinda forced to play games to survive I think.
Core will introduce audience how games that you can play now works alas Game Pass in general. It’s up to them to decide what they want to do afterward.
Microsoft is getting roughly 320M per month or 3,840B per year, let’s be crazy and cut that in half just for 3rd party deals, this brings us to 1,920B per year or 160M per month.
Microsoft would have enough budget to fund 1 160M game per month just off game pass ultimate subscribers, this doesn’t include other game pass users, MTX from 1st and 3rd party, 1st and 3rd part game purchases, accessories like custom controllers.
This also isn’t including the incoming ABK revenue
Starfield RPG coupled with Gamepass will be a force like never seen before in the industry. PC community will go nuts and you will see steam charts and counts write new records. Xbox live will see a surge like never seen before. Hardware sales will be through the roof of the warehouses.
It doesn’t bother me if someone has more interest in game Y than game X. But a lot of people pretend they never played a Ubisoft game and never experienced the Ubisoft open world blueprint.
For years we hear that it’s boring and Ubisoft should revolutionized. But when the blueprint is used on a popular IP and you can somewhat compare it to another IP, it’s the hottest shit.
So what we SHOULD now be seeing and I doubt we will, is comparisons between Baldurs Gate 3 and Star Wars Outlaws since they’re both exact replacements for Starfield, right?
That’s because the Ubisoft hate is mostly a vocal minority. Those AC games sell more than 99% of the xbox exclusives and as much as any highest selling PS exclusive.
Most people enjoy that sort of the game despite the hate it gets online.
The one sure thing to come out of ABK is a guaranteed revenue for Xbox which would hopefully translate in more (1st party or 3rd party games/game pass deals) content for us. Sounds good to me!
