Crazy to think we are about 2 years away from hearing about next gen.

Makes me think a few things. First, I hope cross gen games are handled differently next gen. I hope cloud has advanced far enough that next gen games are able to release only on the new tech/fast PC’s. Streamed to those who don’t have the consoles. That way we won’t be playing cross gen games for 3 years.

2nd. I wonder which games will tease on the new console in the first years or two. with next gen likely to start right around 2028 or 5 years from now. I believe games that have just started development or are about two are going to be on the new system. Microsoft will have to start outlining expected specs for these studios to target. I expect the next halo, and ES6 to release in the first 1-2 years of these consoles.

But the showcase was a mediocre SoP, i really don’t see it as a showcase compared to their usual ones. But I guess it is, the content they got coming though is anything but exciting from their own studios.

The switch is the leader. The generation will start when the Switch 2 is released.

Most popular free games have graphics than a One S could easily do. Old games look lovely these days.

One of my favourite things of my Series X is that it can play such a wide range of generations, from jetpack to starfield. Why would I be hyped for a new generation?

I’m excited for Switch 2. It may be my first ever day one Nintendo console.

Only thing that is concerning to me is the BC features. I hope they deliver in making it a smooth transition but it’s Nintendo so…

I bought my Switch for Pokemon let’s go and haven’t really used it since

Speaking of Switch 2

My buddy is fully expecting that MK9 and MP4 will be launch games, March 2024 release.

I say he’s setting himself up for huge disappointment. End of this year they will be releasing the last wave of MK8 tracks and I bet they will keep it at that for a while. MP4?

Yeah, let’s first see them re reveal it.

The last PS Showcase will be looked at as the beginning of the “fear, uncertainty, doubt” era of PlayStation. They went years skipping big showcases, then gave a dud. Adding fuel to the FUD… Xbox has a double E3 showcase every year with the momentum of adding Activision soon. Timeline-wise 2024 is Switch 2’s year and 2028 is the next generation target year from Xbox and PlayStation.

Given the timeline, I personally think PlayStation doesn’t have an E3 level showcase until its time to unveil PS6. Meanwhile Nintendo has been stockpiling games for Switch 2 and Xbox has like 12:1 games announced versus PlayStation.

None of this speculation about lack of PlayStation showcases needs to be overly serious. Xbox and Nintendo fans will mostly be too busy with games to notice. PlayStation fans will have plenty of 3rd party multiplats to play. The gaming zeitgeist has shifted away from PlayStation as the center of the universe though. Going to be fun watching fanbase roles be reversed for a change.

I’m expecting a June 2024 reveal, pre-orders in September and Super Switch Entertainment System launches in November 2024. Super Mario Odyssey 2 will be the major launch title. And if it’s backwards compatible, then jeez, Nintendo will remain hot. And if they bring back Virtual Console which they should 100% do, then forget about it. Super Switch will be fucking massive.

With the install base of the Switch I would say it’s mandatory that it’s BC.

But it’s Nintendo, I don’t dare expect too much.

I can only speak for myself but I didn’t get that feeling at all. Disappointing? Sure but FUD? No. Come on. This is like saying that after 2022 there was FUD for the remainder of the Xbox Series era when there wasn’t. Again, disappointment? Sure but that’s it.

Sony first party only, they’ll be leading for me personally, 5 to 4 going into 2024 and I have at least two guaranteed Sony first party titles in Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin. If Marvel’s Wolvering hits, then yeah, im having one hell of a year for PlayStation 5 despite it being my secondary exclusives only console.

Microsoft first party title wise, I have Hellblade 2, Avowed and Towerborne for 2024. If this all plays out this way, going into 2025, Sony will still be leading 8 to 7. Third party exclusive wise, it’s currently 2-0 in favor of PlayStation 5 and by this, I mean fully exclusive to PlayStation 5 console wise. Xbox Series wise, all I have is Stalker 2 and who knows when that’s releasing. Wouldn’t be shocked if it’s delayed to 2025 to be perfectly honest with everything GSC is going through.

In general, Sony has released 11 new first party titles for an average of 82.3 via Open Critic while Microsoft has released 12 new first party titles for an average of 82.2 via Open Critic. Microsoft was 85+ but Redfall really tanked their average rating and is rated worse than Destruction All Stars.

So while in general, it’s close, it’s also close first party wise and exclusives wise. Just like one bad disappointing year in 2022 isn’t going to ruin the rest of the Xbox Series generation, one bad and disappointing showcase in 2023 isn’t going to ruin the rest of the PlayStation 5 generation.

BOTH will be amazing and it simply comes down to personal preference. I’m hyped for Sony’s first party games and Microsoft’s. I have a ton of future releases on my list. I would think that those that own both consoles have a ton of future releases on both sides as well.

No XboxEra or Xbox two this week?

I think people have a concern of what the impact of the GaaS push is going to be on the output. Them not releasing much in 2023 and not announcing much going forward is just adding fuel to the fire.

Nintendo’s actually been good on BC IMO. Wii plays Gamecube, Wii U plays Wii, DS plays GBA, 3DS plays DS. I fully expect to be able to pop any Switch 1 cartridge into it and play it just fine. If it’s a similar device but doesn’t support BC then that would genuinely be a first time thing for them.

Xboxera has changed their format as a workaround the United States internet problems. They are now posting VHS tapes for all users.

Hmm, I see. So it’s only the Switch that doesn’t really do much BC? Because the WiiU was discs?

Maybe but this generation has taught them more than any other that their fanbase will keep buying the same games over and over for full price

Yeah, I can agree with everything you’re saying but since Jim Ryan took over in 2019, I knew that they were going to go in a more live service direction than ever before so maybe that’s why im not concerned or anything. Once I see live service be like 75% overall meaning 3 out of 4 games are that, then I will have a concern which I don’t see happening at this rate until next generation and only if they hit on a few of them. If they all fail and bomb, I don’t see the experiment lasting past this generation.

Releasing only Marvel’s Spider Man 2 and MLB The Show 23 in 2023 isn’t a lot at all but at least I have one game from Sony this year where as I didn’t have anything from Microsoft in 2022 so for me, nothing to worry about. I think Sony will announce games when they’re ready to be shown.

If they don’t announce anything going into 2025, then I can see the concern and whatnot but that’s highly unlikely and as I said before, I already 2 games from Sony in 2024 with Wolverine being 3 if it doesn’t get delayed to 2025.

Like with Xbox in 2022, I just think people are worrying over nothing but that’s just me.

I think you (and I) have the benefit of having both consoles and don’t really have to worry that much if one platform has a slow period because it’s rare for them to both have slow periods at the same time.

In general people are too emotionally involved in this stuff and the worrying comes with that, but what can you do?

Right now I’m playing deaths door and Skyrim when I’m not playing competitive shooters with friends. These will probably have to hold me over until starfield drops, unless there’s a surprise gamepass addition.
