Hopefully it won’t be compatible. If they are smart they’ll go with a standard SSD.
I think at the worst case, the market will create USB4 adapters to have these Series X|S storage cards be usable on “next-gen”. That would mean OG Xbox, X360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series BC games are all playable off them for “next-gen” xbox consoles.
That would be similiar to how USB drives are usable for OG Xbox, X360, Xbox One BC games on the current Series X|S consoles.
I dunno, I think worst case these devices never sell in any reasonable quantity and no real company invests in an adapter.
Even if the plugs there. The games need to be compatible right? If the current ssd isn’t fast enough then it might not work for new games next gen right? Only for the previous gen games?
They may already exist for USB3, its CFexpress adapters. I havent tried any on a PC yet.
But thats how the early CFexpress to NVME adapters came out in 2021 when folks tried getting them to work on Series consoles. Its a standard form factor and connector.
Edit: something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Unitek-CFexpress-Thunderbolt-Connection-Compatible/dp/B083W2XJBM
It would work for all current-gen games upto and including Xbox Series X|S titles as they work today (you called them previous gen games once we are in “next-gen”).
I had to unfollow and block Game Pass Tracker and it’s CEO Garrett Atkins on Twitter for being a vaccine skeptic Right Wing Chud.
I can’t stand that dude! And I can tell he writes most of his tweets using Chat GPT, he’s a tech bro chump. I suggest everyone to mute or block his accounts.
Ain’t nobody subscribing to Game Pass Tracker on twitter to see locked tweets either. I love watching that man cry about being a victim because people make fun of Twitter Blue users.
I hope not, being hot swapple is what makes these SSD’s a better choice imo. The issue is that Microsoft doesn’t make them, they have partners that need to make a profit so selling them for less doesn’t work for them.
Right now since the Amazon gift cards are back, my plan is to get enough points to buy it for $90-$100.
Even if Microsoft was making them, accessories are never sold at a loss or even at low profit margins. Hot swappable is nice but I’d much rather pay half the price.
It’s not about selling them at a loss, is about not price gouging like Seagate was doing for the time they were the only ones selling them.
I want a choice of using anything thats fast enough.
To me this means the following:
They should use USB4 80 Gbps (or faster/newer) on next-gen which is fast enough for any NVME adapters. They should reimplement the “compatibility benchmark”, where it tests the device when first connected and lets the game use it for any titles that it meets the specifications for.
I dont see them using faster NVME than 10,000 MB/s on next-gen.
I think it was less about prince gouging and more about an early bet on technology that simply didn’t aggressively decrease in costs due to complexity and low usage.
They need to get as close to a mass market standard as possible.
Jeez, thanks for the heads up!
At this point an adapter that’s hot swappable that any SSD of the set specifications can be attached to, could probably do what everyone wants without removing the Hot swappable functions.
But no it’s always about price gouging, Seagate didn’t drop their prices until after more SSD’s where announced at a price that undercut them.
Seagate’s prices were higher than they needed to be, doesn’t change the fact that CG Express cost more than NVMe SSDs across the entire market though.
Even the new prices are too much.
Right, because of the low adoption rate that was caused because of price gouging.
Gamers get SO ANGRY at this guy. Like in a personal way. I don’t really get it. I like that he comes up with crazy ideas and isn’t afraid to talk about them even if they don’t make it into the final game. I find him entertaining and Fable was still ambitious and fun even if you couldn’t actually plant an acorn and grow it into a tree, so I don’t see the harm.
Not to mention it give a platform to some of the most horrible people to ever breathe air. I hope to see it crash and burn in my lifetime. I’m not going to be quick to jump onto threads yet either. I’m on Instagram though so I guess I’m technically there already lol.
Isn’t he making an NFT based game? Basically, I don’t believe anything the guy says, so I highly doubt his “groundbreaking Mechanics” will be anything truly groundbreaking in a good way (if they even exist). He’s a carnival barker.
Yeah, as much as people continue to give Todd Howard the side eye and crap, I often find it exaggerated. Whereas with Molyneux, he definitely was a over promiser.
