NT is a the last studio I would ever expect to put out a “Souls Like” . They seem way more interested in “cinematic” games.

Souls Games are a lot of things “stiff” or “clunky” ain’t one of them. Unless you’re talking about souls likes from Devs other than FROM. The controls and combat animations are among the best, especially in Bloodborne and Elden Ring. I’ll give you framerate issues and performance. But “non existent story”? Nah fam. They just don’t shove the story in your face because it’s not the priority here. It has environmental story telling , as well as getting lore through reading weapon / armor descriptions.

They aren’t trying to bog the player down with long ass cutscenes or multiple forced slow walking sections with two character expositing to each other. For all the game industry’s obsession with being movies they often miss the whole “show don’t tell” aspect of storytelling. So no their stories are far from non existent , you’re used to the other way or just prefer it and that’s fine but to say it’s not there is wrong. I found the world/lore and demi gods of Elden Ring far more engaging than anything in the Average Assassin’s Creed game or GOW.

I dont know about that

Their last game was Bleeding Edge which while smaller was focused purely on gameplay so I don’t think they are all in on cinematic stuff, that’s just Hellblade

They also did DmC before that so I can definitely see them doing something different after HB2, even if it’s not necessarily a Souls like game

Yeah I’m not too big on the whole Souls thing myself

Too slow, too much rolling and the I need more than some item description’s for my stories to be engaging

Maybe. They seem all in on Games like HB2 and Project Mara. Even though I loathe DmC, The combat is probably the best Ninja Theory has ever achieved in one of their action games, (I liked Bleeding Edge too. Rahni Tucker worked on Both game’s combat and she’s on Hellblade so I’m hoping the combat is far improved over the original game.) I’d like to see them take another crack at a character action game rather than a Souls Like.

You don’t like the Mech game genre?

The completion rates on the game are actually pretty high for how long it is. They rival other, much shorter single player games.

Here are the percentages on the 3 ending achievements. “Age of the Stars” being the highest on all of them suggests that most people played through Elden Ring using a walkthrough, as it is basically impossible for the average player to reach this ending without a guide.

Xbox:

Playstation:

Elden Lord: 20% of players unlocked it

Age of the Stars: 25% of players unlocked it

Lord of the Frenzied Flame: 15% of players unlocked it

PC:

Just to give an idea on average completion rates, here is the achievement for finishing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

(The app wouldn’t let me reveal the secret achievement, but this is the percentage displayed on Trueachievements)

Well we don’t even really know what Mara is yet, it seems more experimental than anything, definitely a smaller scale project

I wouldn’t take HB and it’s sequel as confirmation they are done with more actiony things, I can definitely see them doing something different after HB2

I played Sekiro and Bloodborne. They’re not fluid or responsive at all. It’s almost like you’re playing an AA souls like game. lol

What’s the story in Elden Ring? I have friends who have completed the game several times and all they tell me is that you’re meant to become the Elden Lord and im like, AND??? lol

I understand your point in regards to the world telling the story but for example, im playing Redfall and having a billion documents that im not going to read or having these holograms tell me the story along with those bad cut scenes and the story just isn’t keeping me interested. It’s actually hunting vampires that’s keeping me engaged. lol. I do like the world though.

I love AC for the most part and GOW so obviously, I favor these types of games. I know majority here don’t like them which is fine but for me, I get excellent visuals, great audio, fully voiced protagonists and voice acting, great combat and gameplay along with a damn good story and characters. Plus they run at 60FPS looking like they do is huge for me.

To each their own though. Either way, I just don’t want to see Ninja Theory or any of Microsoft’s studios doing a souls game. That’s pretty much the gist of it.

I have no clue what those trophies/achievements mean for Elden Ring. lol

Which one is for getting the end credits and game being “completed”?

The game has 3 different endings, with 3 different achievements. I think the one to pay the most attention to is “Age of the Stars” because it’s the highest on all 3 platforms. Like I said before, this ending requires a lot of very hidden side quests to be completed that are very easily missed, so it being the highest seems to mean that most people who beat the game did it with a walkthrough.

Still, it shows that a huge chunk of players, rivaling completion rates of other single player games, were determined to beat the game instead of dropping it.

“Elden Lord” is the game’s standard ending which you get for reaching the end without doing anything extra.

“Lord of the Frenzied Flame” was probably mainly only unlocked by achievement hunters because it’s also convoluted to unlock but is a bad ending.

A very difficult platformer? Actually, that does fit.

Thanks for the info. Age of the Stars and Elden Lord is 40% total across all platforms so 4 out of 10 people which isn’t bad.

Honestly not sure how anyone who’s played Bloodborne and especially Sekiro can claim they are not “fluid” or “responsive” especially in the case of Sekiro ( which again isn’t a Souls game) which prioritizes precise timing on parrying which you need to learn to get anywhere in that game, If it were unresponsive that game wouldn’t work at all lol.

Sekiro definitely isn’t clunky lmao.
