Not only too early, because the pandemic dramatically slowed the normal ramping-up for optimization and increased the cross-gen window, but also unnecessary IMO. PS4 Pro and One X both sought to provide a solution for consoles that launched with relatively weak hardware (when compared to previous console technology increases) and neither PS5 or Series consoles have that same problem. Not only that, but as I discussed with (and received confirmation from) Albert Penello, there are additional variables in today’s market that make the need/likelihood less so: inverted cost v. die shrinks, increased perf/watt not in line with the increase of cost/heat envelopes, etc.

I just think a mid-gen refresh doesn’t make sense from a business or tech standpoint :man_shrugging:

Yeah that trailer caught me off guard! looks insane indeed (and fun)! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Benedict Fox’s showing was really awesome too, looks like they smoothed out the animation transitions which is great! can’t wait to play this.

If Sony does indeed make the PS5 pro. Xbox has no choice but to respond. We will see a million article and tweets about how the PS5 pro power advantage equal this and that etc… all over again.

Them hit piece article and tweet over time do have a negative effect.

MS probably already knows before hand as Sony would neeed to send in PS5 Pro dev kit before hand to MS to get COD and other games that MS owned that are releasing on Playstation optimized for PS5 Pro.

So if MS release their Series X Pro after, MS will have a clear advantage in power again like One X vs PS4 Pro.

They used to, then they removed it entirely. Way to go Sony!

Not joking, but legit curious if this will outdo Mario.

As good or as bad? How do you mean outdo?

Or it could flopped like Lightyear. Anything can happen. Movies are very unpredictable.

Box office.

If they don’t put Jason in a blocky suit, I will be disappointed.

I’m hoping that neither side do a “pro” model, especially Xbox. I would much rather see the generation go six years and the next generation of Xbox start in November 2026 instead of a “pro” model in late 2024 and then next gen in November 2028.

But wait…wouldn’t Sony having a Pro model mean that the original base model is their Series S??? And will cause many developmental issues, problems and concerns??? lol

I really hope that there’s no mid-gen consoles at all. UGH. Such a fucking waste in my opinion.

Did not expect this at all. I mean a game like AC Valhalla is about 70GB or so, but that isn’t too shocking.

ah lightyear. a bad mix combination of VA doing a bad press, confusing plot in a kid movie, and publisher refused to cut certain scene in 15+ markets even thought they really said it doesn’t change much to main story.

Which is why all this talk about pro models and such is silly… what we really need is the discontinuation of 500gb /1tb and replacement with 1tb Series S / 2tb Series X as the new standard.

I agree. We barely have any true next gen only games taking full advantage of next gen console. So far, it been mainly cross-gen with next gen version. Higher fidelity and framerates etc, but nothing truly mind blowing like the Matrix UE5 Demo yet.

If Sony do make a PS5 Pro like the rumor suggest? Xbox will respond with a Pro version also. There is no way MS let Sony have the most powerful console branding anymore.

They(and the fans) could potentially brag for a year about more power until the Xbox Pro comes out. I think you said this today too?

Or why not go 360 style, leave Sony in the dust by just coming with a next gen console, fuck a mid gen refresh. :smirk:

I have a Honest to God. Question about porting games how much does it cost to port a game to Xbox because it does Not make a lick of f****** sense 2 port the Final fantasy 1 through 6 collection and Not port to Xbox. This collection is even on Android and iOS. Square Enix is a walking L

Yes Sony fanboys and that includes game journalist, will write many article hit pieces. I was around for the 2013 Xbox One vs PS4 power argument. It was not a pretty sight lol. Only way to keep their armys of fanboys quiet is for Xbox to have the power advantage.

Xbox and Sony console now use basically the same parts for GPU and CPU, same architecture. I cannot see a 360 scenario again. Xbox would probably have to make radical change for the 360 scenario to happen again. I don’t see that happening.

Playing the 10 hour Gamepass trial of EA PGA tour is a nice experience for people looking for the current generation leap. It is noticeably the best looking golf game ever. Not mind blowing like Matrix though, so still room for improvement.
