Yesterday on YouTube I watched some before show, during show, post show, and days later show (after realizing fans hated it) podcast by Easy Allies. Normally I don’t watch those PlayStation centric podcasts but I wanted to see how it would break them Before show: crazy hype and E3 like excitement, during show cheerleading and exaggerated jumping up and down excitement, post show shell shocked but still in denial and trying to ignore how bad it was, days later playing both sides by sticking up for PlayStation, but now pretending to agree they are disappointed by the show… completely not acknowledging their clownish behavior before, during, and after the show. Probably pretty typical for these PlayStation centric outlets, unable to react to things in real time and only able to “follow the crowd”, if PlayStation fans tell them to be upset about something they will act upset, if PlayStation fans tell them to cheerlead a narrative then they will perpetuate the narrative. It’s all so boring and uninspired. If you are unable to think and react in real time, maybe don’t make it your career.
I don’t necessarily mean to single out Easy Allies, because I’m sure most PlayStation podcasts did similar behavior then tried to pivot once they realized there was widespread fan backlash to the show. That sort of fake neutral Sony angle gets frustrating when the only reason I’m watching SpawnWave or Dreamcastguy in the first place is to watch them be disappointed about bad PlayStation news. When they hide any real-time opinion until the larger group tells them how they should think about something, those outlets seem so pointless to me.
It was a bad show in real-time They just lack that basic skill.
