I totally forgot about The Gunk. That could be really nice! I wonder, could Stalker 2 be planned for this year?

I think that was very deliberate why the game wasn’t a power fantasy like TFU games were, in those, you were literally an apprentice trained by Darth Vader himself, and get access to all kinds of powers as a result. In JFO, you’re supposed to be a padawan whose mentor died in a war while still not having completed the training, so you’re left astray to not just get back the skills you forgot or lost, but to also develop these remaining ones on the path to become a full blown Jedi. It made narrative sense for Cal to not be a power fantasy, and instead focused on this grounded melee combat without too many skills. But I get how that can be unappealing to some, hey, even I can admit TFU was a lot more “fun” to play and waaaaay more powers to mess around with.

This is precisely why I think a sequel is needed and almost definitely happening given the game’s critical and commercial success. Cal is now a well trained Jedi who went through the trials of become one in JFO, and now in the sequel, he has all of the powers and more, making you finally feel that TFU fantasy (although Light Side will never be as cool as Dark Side, that’s just a fact of the universe). Remember, it’s the Decepticons who always get the good shit.

So yeah, that’s my thesis on JFO and why it played the way it did and why that leaves great room for improvement in the sequel.

Agree

TF 2 being “Far superior” to JFO is a mega stretch and no majority agrees with it lol.

True.

Epic is a much better publisher to Remedy than Sony imo for many reasons

  1. 50% profit sharing, more than what other publishers traditionally give.
  2. Remedy gets to own the IP.
  3. The game releases on all platforms possible unless an exclusivity deal is made additionally, hence lesser chance of not making enough money. Remedy’s games already don’t seem to do that well on the money side, imagine they went only one plastic box.

some studios value their independence for reasons like this

Yep. Also exactly why I am not as active in the acquisition thread, cuz I’m not personally as ecstatic about more and more studios getting gobbled up haha. People seem to act like second party isn’t a thing. Some of the best games for xbox AND playstation the previous gen were from second party like ori, flight sim, bloodborne, spiderman (insomniac now under Sony of course but you get what I mean). Like, it’s completely fine for a studio to stay independent while these platform holders still fund their game, share tech, put day 1 on gamepass, whatever. Like xbox could still let Asobo make Crimson Skies reboot while not having acquired them.

Good luck!

I probably won’t get much time into this today, I’m in a busy party and the vibe is good. This is a game to play when nobody is talking.

I mean to be fair second party just a buzzword. Its just another third party game where the ownership of the game is not from the dev.

lol I agree, tbh I don’t like the word second party either, but it communicates something very specific so I go with it, and that is a third party game funded by a first party platform.

Sony now has to be amongst the least appealing publishers, with no IP ownership and game locked to a single ecosystem, the only big upside being marketing. Almost every other AAA publisher can offer more.

Explains why the most Sony gets these days is just timed exclusivity, exclusive in game items, exclusive demos and modes that few care about. But hey, at least fewer games skip the platform by merely being Sony, so they do have that going. Even every indie they’re getting as exclusive aren’t only on playstation but instead launch on PC at the same time. PC currently is the best place for indies, that’s for sure. I’m glad both Xbox and PS at least allow for this one fact to persist.

Yes, but it’s still annoying to see them holding some games away from PC too. It’s clear that some studios/publishers don’t want to skip PC but Sony will always try like with FF. How a big publisher like Square is okay with their biggest franchise skipping the other two biggest platforms is baffling.

Thats’s why it is important for Xbox to gain market share too, then there is way more uproar when Sony does their usual moneyhatting.

Missed this yesterday but this is 100% correct

Yep.

Game was a boring, grinding slog of a chore. Complete waste of a very cool setting.

I put 90 hours into Valhalla and I legit spent the last 40 hours just rushing the main story cause I was tired of it already.

People have somehow convinced themselves that bigger and bloated = better.

Good god. Imagine getting 50 hours into a game, thinking “I’ll just mainline this now” & then having to spend another 40 hours getting to the end.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Dude, you’ve got the patience of a saint.

Wasnt gonna drop it after so many hours so I just went through it and put it out of its misery.
