How many Gamepass subs do you think they will be at when they announce earnings next month? They normally do about a million new subs per month but I wonder if Bethesda games being added had more than normal new subscribers!
400 billion, though I am given to hyperbole.
I could see S & X getting a Halo themed Xbox.
I just think this is a different MS, like theyâll give studios time to deliver the best product. A Starfield that ships next year will be more glitch free then one that comes out this year
Gamepass is being subscribed by Martians and aliens beyond the milkyway galaxy
Has the xbox team ever thought of doing some sort of game jam? For example, developers of obsidian, undead labs, and arkane get together for 1 week to create a horror game.
Very good question actually. Iâm sure they do that a lot internally, just not release any of that to the public.
But itâs a definitely cool idea to actually have a game jam and release the games for free to the public, imagine all that insane talent from all these studios who can form small groups and work on something that is somewhat ready for release in a week working on it part-time. It can promote more bonding amongst the studios, more competition as well. Like, one group has a writer from Obsidian, and their game jam game has some excellent witty writing, compared to a group which has someone from Double Fine, and itâs all wacky and super original in its presentation, itâd be great to see an eclectic mix of philosophies come together lol. Can maybe happen once a year. They should just be careful that this doesnât take away too much attention from their own games or poison the discourse around them.
I hope @Sikamikanico or @Shpeshal_Nick an ask this question to an xbox dev when they bring one on to the podcast!
Iâm pretty sure on some video or stream Iâve heard them say they do this sort of thing, I know double fine do this because there was a video saying theyâll still do it after being bought by ms.
I wonder if MS will drop anything today heh
just realized something, all the people talking about how Xbox shouldnât pursue JRPGs on Xbox because Xbox doesnât sell in Japan. Hereâs an interesting reality.
Lost Odyssey is one of the most revered Xbox 360 games, was from the creator of Final Fantasy, and is constantly brought up as an IP Xbox should bring back.
Curiously enough, Lost Odyssey sold more in America as per NPD than it did in Japan.
What does this tell you?
This shows that making a JRPG is not entirely just about making it into Japan, itâs simply about having a kind of RPG that is characteristically Japanese in style, design and the people behind it. And more importantly, that these games are sought universally, not just in Japan. Just because cricket originated in England doesnât mean there arenât other countries where cricket is equally or more popular. In fact, Indian Premier League is the biggest Cricket tournament in the entire world, not some England one or Australian one.
Having JRPGs donât make you a hit in Japan automatically, if so, Switch wouldnât be absolutely demolishing Playstation which still has some of the biggest JRPG IP like Final Fantasy, Persona, Yakuza, Monster Hunter, etc. The success of Switch in Japan has to do with more than just the games it has. Itâs about the general zeitgeist of what Japan simply wants right now, and thatâs on the go gaming. Thatâs why Switch and mobile are absolutely huge in Japan.
This is where Xcloud comes in. This is where a future of Persona on the go, Final Fantasy on the go, Yakuza on the go, are all something Xbox shall be trying to push hard, and it wouldnât require selling plastic boxes for any adoption of the ecosystem, both in Japan and outside it. Itâs literally gonna be as simple as âget a gamepass ultimate sub, oh you already have an iPhone, just play all these games on the go, no need to buy our console, keep buying your switch, who knows, maybe if Nintendo allows it, fuck it, weâll put our xcloud on your already existing switch as wellâ.
This is the strategy that makes sense for Xbox and itâs what they should pursue. A lack of Japanese presence in plastic box sales is not justification for Xbox not needing to pursue certain types of games aggressively.
In conclusion:
Making it in Japan is a lot more than just having JRPGs, and having JRPGs is a lot more than just making it in Japan.
Do we know if LiS 3 is more open or is it still a small scale narrative driven linear game ? 60$ for that type of game is expensive, but I think they hinted at a day/night cycle in that trailer and some kind of exploration of that town at different moments of the day.
Or maybe I am imagining things, but I hope they go for it. Just open the gameplay a little bit, let us explore small areas, do some side stuff, that would be really cool. It doesnât have to be Shenmue âI-can-open-every-drawerâ, but just a little bit of open-world stuff could do a lot I think.
damn, GOW Ragnarok lookin wild! No way this masterpiece is releasing this year, I hope the take all the time with it to make all of it as good as this vertical slice
Say what you like about CoD or FIFA - these two games are absolute monsters for popularity and system sellers. Whole, huge communities would move to Xbox if they was lucky enough to pull one of these. It would definitely change the landscape.
Lol Im not saying it would bad just impossibleđł
Damn thats contrary to what Xbox does
No xbox news today
These people are finished
Sony gonna Sony. As expected. Even Apple is not that dumbâŚ
I still have a PSTV with some games, lolâŚI am pissedâŚ
So there is no other way to buy the stuff on there? Why would they do that?
