Itās clear many havenāt ever heard good headphones gaming or otherwise. These are ok but certainly donāt sound good. Highs and mids arenāt clear enough and even when you use the eq the bass is still far too heavy. I mean to an extent you expect it but there are better headphones in terms of audio quality for less money than these cost.
In fact you can buy a non game wired pair for a fraction that will sound as good as these if not better.
Yesterday I started demoing them and my first thought was āholy shit, the bass packs a serious punch.ā and thatās still true now, but then I tested Gears 5 and a few other games and I started to notice how muddy the other sounds were. When walking through water in Gwars 5, or when reloading, even voices are just very muddy. In that way it reminds me of the TB Elite 800x that I used to have. Amazing bass, but it drowned out all the other sounds.
This evening I played The Division 2 all evening with my TB Stealth 700 Gen 2 and while the bass might not be as punchy as the Xbox headset, it still packs a good punch and all the other sounds are SO much clearer.
Had I not had the TB 700 Gen 2 though, I definitely would have stuck with the Xbox headset. I love the volume dials, they are comfortable, nice design and for the price itās not bad. Although I think the TB 600 Gen 2 can be had for the same price.
I think Iām gonna return them, because I honestly will be just fine with my TB.
Iām not a big audiophile guy at all and I have to say, I love these headphonesā¦they do what I need them to do, sound great to me, and WIRELESS lol.
This is a very good review that mirrors my thoughts exactly on why I love this headset so much, and yes I also own a LucidSound LS50X which is a $250 headset. Obviously objectively the more expensive headset will offer ābetterā sound quality for those that can discern such things more readily especially, but I would venture to say that the huge majority of gamers out there will be more than satisfied with how these sound as most people arenāt that much of an āaudiophileā. People should definitely not get scared away from checking these out when some people that maybe are more discerning with their ears critique the sound quality.
The Audio quality takes a big step up when you tweak it in the EQ. Taking 125 and 250HZ down a couple notches really improves the overall audio performance.
My only real complaint is that the mic is so stubby that mic monitoring pretty much doesnāt work. Depending on head size/shape the mic can be nowhere near your mouth.
This may not be true for everyone, but it maybe wasnāt quite as comfortable as my LS50X right at first. But for whatever reason for me at least after using it for several days it is now just as comfortable or a little more for me, maybe my bigger head/ears stretched some things out a little or something
I did change some settings and itās better than default, but I still find the mids and highs too muddy. Of course these werenāt going to beat the TB 700 gen 2, but I never expected that either. But Iāll try them one more time. Iāll put all the settings back to default and then lower 125 and 250HZ a few notches. You leave the rest alone?
I did those recommendations from reddit to start, but ended up bumping 125 and 250 back up a couple notches. From left to right it would be somewhere around -5 -3 -2 0 0
I use dolby atmos. I got the app with my old Rig 800s
I am very happy with them. If i wanted nerd audio quality, i wouldnāt be purchasing a 99$ headset.
Price fits performance. Old saying will always stay trueā¦ you get what you pay for.
It will with any headset since the Xbox isnāt having to downmix 5.1 or 7.1 audio into 2.0 with virtual software delaying sounds to simulate directional audio. Atmos for headphones or DTS:X will always be worse than just uncompressed stereo in terms of true sound. That was the same with the Dolby digital processing the headsets did last gen or whatever. In terms of pure sound profile you are messing things up to gain directional sound.
My artic 9s sound really good with dolby atmos enabled on any game without having to mess with the eq ā¦but it sounds awful on the new xbox headset thatās why I went with stereo on them
