So I picked up my Xbox Wireless Headset today, and this thing is incredible IMO! I own a LucidSound LS50X which is widely considered by many to be the best Xbox headset not because I am an audiophile, but rather because I had some extra money to burn and thought that I needed āthe bestā. They are really nice, but I will likely be using the new Xbox Wireless Headset as my primary headset going forward after some testing and gameplay today.
My son is an audiophile, and he tested both too. He said that the LucidSound is arguably a little better in terms of sound clarity in the mid/highs as some have pointed out, and the Xbox Wireless Headset is pretty bass heavy at default settings. However, I used the Xbox settings app to change the EQ settings to be what someone on Reddit had posted: RECONMENDED EQ/XBOX ACCESSORIES APP 125HZ(-9) 250HZ(-6) 1KHZ (-2) 4KHZ (0) 8KHZ (0).
It sounds much better for me at those settings now and quite comparable for my likes/ears with the LucidSound when going back and forth between both on Dolby Atmos demo content and Assassinās Creed Valhalla gameplay for example.
This headset is a total homerun for me at least:
Sound quality is very good for my tastes, did not leave me wanting for more and can always make your ears wobble with the bass if you want to use the bass boost setting in the settings app or use a more bass heavy EQ configuration.
Mic quality for me when testing in an Xbox party with someone was honestly the best mic chat experience in terms of clarity from both ends that I have had, arguably better than my LucidSound in this area. The Auto Mute feature worked just as advertised in limited testing too.
Being able to tweak the EQ and other settings in the Xbox settings app is really nice, and being able to see that I am on firmware 0.0.9.0 and knowing that I can easily update to the latest firmware at any time with additional features/tweaks is a big plus for me considering that the LucidSound LS50X firmware update process is a journey to the depths of hell.
They are very comfortable to wear so far, comparable to my LucidSound which were comfortable too. Although I think that I am going to like this headset even more because it is much lighter as the LucidSound could start to feel a little āheavyā on my head after long gaming sessions.
The rotating dial on the left side cup for sound mix between game and chat is super convenient compared to even the dial use on the LucidSound, and things physically click into different spots on the dial and stay there unless you change something (middle location of the dial to mix evenly between game and chat audio for example). The rotating dial on the right side for volume is super simple too of course, and it solves one of my pet peeves with the LucidSound where no matter where I had my preferred volume level set it would just āresetā to some default very low level each time I powered off the headset and back on. The Xbox Wireless Headset has the physical dial that just stays where I had it from one session to the next.
Two little design things that are just really cool for me are the Xbox console boot up sound when turning on the headset which is a nice touch, and the stitching of the āLā and āRā letters inside the ear cups makes it super easy for me to quickly see the right orientation without looking for the little letters on the plastic inside of the band on most headsets.
Got mine yesterday. And holy crap on a crap cracker, I can not believe this is what you can get for a $99 headset
The cups are very comfortable, as is the head piece. The mic sounds great, according to my bro I was testing it with. The sound quality coming in was excellent. I love the radial volume and mixing controls on the sides. I paired it with my phone and that came through really nicely, as well. The equalizer and settings being in the accessories settings is so convinient
1st game I tested them on, to me, this was a no brainer. Battlefield. I fired up BFV and between this headset and the DTS sound appā¦HOLY WORLD SHAKING CACOPHONY, BATMAN!!! If youāve played any Battlefield titles, you already know the sound in those games is incredilble. But I never knew it could sound that damn good. From the pop of the gunshots; the roar of overhead plane engines; the rolling thunder of nearby explosions; the perfect directional cues of enemy foosteps, gunfire and grass and brush rustlingā¦it was incredible
Though thatās not implicitly about the headphones themselves. Iām sure you get similar and even better results with some of the more expensive, higher end headsets, but thatās the point, isnāt it? These things are in my price range and nothing else Iāve ever used in said range even comes close to these bad larryās
F me this post just sold me on it. Better than LS50x? Thatās a 249 headset. Can you try Fortnite ? I wonder if you can clearly hear the footsteps of enemies there. If you can ill order one this week.
Iāve got the LS35x atm and Iām thinking about upgrading to the 50 (due to the dreaded cracking above the ear cupās). Hopefully we get some YouTube comparisons as I canāt see them being better.
Seems like an amazing headset for the price but Iām not sure if we are just getting excited.
Sorry, I am not trying to say that they are ābetterā than the LS50X in terms of overall sound quality. My sonās ears are much more audiophile tuned than mine apparently, and he does say that the LS50X has better mids and highs as other reviewers have noted which should be expected for the price point. However, my primary point is that for many people (likely the majority I would assume) like myself these sound really great and not very different to my ears so that they are an awesome choice for $99 when you consider that I actually prefer them for some of the quality of life things that I mentioned too.
They are not bad at all and this is with default settings. I didnāt mess with settings in the Atmos or DTSX app at all.
Bass is very nice, and footsteps in shooters can easily be heard. However, when I directly compare them to my TB 700 gen 2, the latter wins easily. The sound overall on the Xbox headset are more muddy, definitely more muddy whereas the TB is very clear there.
But I am not done by a long shot. I should try some settings in the apps.
What is this Xbox settings app people are talking about?
Got my headset today and Iām really liking it so far. The sound with Atmos is incredible for the price point and much much better than Sonys offering with 3D Audio and itās in house headset. Gonna try Partychat tonight but so far Iām impressed. They are comfy as fuck as well.
Hmmm Iām not sure I want to do thisā¦ I always wonder why I am the only person who doesnāt like this. I really struggle how someone could ware these over a long period of time. Is their a reason for this foam like material? Does it make the sound better?
Iād imagine itās cost related. I agree, the material on the ear cups is, in my opinion, the biggest negative. Itās that cheap feeling sweat inducing kinda stuff. Would prefer a cloth mesh like on my Steelseries.
Hmm unfortunateā¦ comfort is probably the most important aspect for me. I think I will stay on my gen 1 stealth 600. So far they did a great job and I will hold on them for as long as they work. Going to send my xbox headset back.
But given that I wonder why many praised the comfort for the headset. Is it because of the price? Because the stealth 600 costs less. Hmmmā¦
Mine arrive today. I donāt expect them to sound better than my Arctis 7x, but if they are reasonably close I will use them as my primary. Either way, one will become my PC headset and the other my Xbox headset.
