Wait, £249? Impressive stuff.
hmmm… I wonder if that’s the real clockspeed or just some maths based on the 4TF rumor
I can think of a few…Maybe because of the consumer sentiment about the lack of 4K Blu-ray playability on the PS4Pro, the current size of games ever growing and limited access to reliable internet for some…ultimately consumer choice.
With the 300$ price point I am now expecting the following:
Series X: 499$ PS5: 499$ PS5 DE: 449$
No way Sony is going for more than 50$ difference for removing a disc drive, they are probably already losing money at 499$ and a 20$ disc drive being removed wouldn’t warrant a 100$ difference imo.
Kinda funny I thought MS would wait it out for Sony to announce their price, now seems like they might be first to show all their cards. Don’t know how Sony can be this coward when they are the market leader and the would probably still sell out at 599$…
Unfortunately, won’t stop some people.
Sony would want EXACTLY that, they lose less on the Digital Edition because all the sales from it moving forward shall be theirs with no middleman from physical/retail. As per @ZhugeEX’s report on Sony recently, around 80% of sales happened digitally during this pandemic and even though the conditions themselves explain that, physical shall be decreasingly important for console manufacturers moving forward.
I agree with that, but at the same time, you can also make theses profits on a console with a disc drive, especially with digital gaining more and more importance. Here, it just makes the normal PS5 not attractive in my opinion.
yes, it does make it less attractive (ironically it looks less attractive than the DE too lol) and maybe that’s a good reason to think the physical edition pricing shall be on the higher side so that DE would seem more attractive in context
I think it could be that yes. Maybe that’s why they secured 3rd party deals too, because they knew about the prices.
yeah! insert it’s all coming together meme here
We need gifs !
£249 - Cheaper than Nintendo Switch.
Completely mind-blowing, and for next-gen performances too !
lol yeah
they’ll probably put a sticker on it with a warning, watch
Yes, I think they will take the hit and price the PS5de at $399, PS5 at $499.
As i speculated based on the leaked PS5 BOM price in my previous post they will be losing about $84 per console, but I think they will take the hit because they will want a strong start and won’t want the Gap to be that big between them and XSS. Even at $399, the XSS’s price advantage wont be negated though in this economy, especially when casuals (and some hardcore) see the difference between the visuals.
Awesome news.
I can imagine myself add a Series S to my Series X for the kids.
Confirmed, I’ll be getting both at launch.
Exactly.
I agree but just pointing out that if DE meant there was literally no interest in the disc based version then why would Sony even bother. Of course there will always be some level of interest in a disc based version of a console because of reasons you have given and some people just like owning physical editions of things.
