Absolutely fantastic price!!!
Xbox Twitter handled it perfectly.
A real shame that it leaked.
Everybody wins!
sooooooo
how long till the Digital Foundry breakdown of the Series S?
I suppose they’ve had the console with them for a bit and already tested a few games? Need that shit ASAP especially when Sony is still sleeping on the hardware side
From Sony’s perspective I only say:
There is no doubt in my mind that XSX will deliver vastly better visual fidelity. Otherwise i really can’t see the point of next gen overall at all.
S will deliver next gen visuals at 1080p or 1440p X will do it at 4K…I’m not sure there will be tons of difference beyond that.
People completely skip over this, built in bigger batter, new haptics feedback, built in mic and the controller itself is bigger.
Meanwhile Xbox just copied and pasted their old controller made it a bit smaller and added a button, that thing is cheap as chips.
It seems that Sony fans believe that the PS5 DE will now be £350, as if just lacking a disc drive but having all those specs is going to be £100 cheaper than XSX lol
So, has anybody leaked yet the h/w specs of series S?
the CUs number especially and the bandwidth?
Imagine holiday 2021, $249 Black Friday deal that comes with 3 months of Game Pass…and Halo Infinite is now on Game Pass.
They’re playing chess here. If Microsoft really didn’t care about consoles, the S wouldn’t exist. At that price point, time for everyone to move on from that narrative. I always said that how serious Microsoft was about consoles would be shown by their price points. We got our answer.
It’s so hard to figure out what Sony will do, both XSX and PS5 have expensive parts but in different places haha like what is more expensive the GPU or this SSD i’d argue probably the GPU difference but the SSD in PS5 would be more than XSX.
It’s a tit for tat, it’s so hard to judge haha.
£350 would be £100 more than the XSS.
That said, I also think there will be slightly more than a £100 difference between XSS and PS5 DE, perhaps £150 more. Then again I was completely off the mark with my predictions for S (and potentially X), so…
This is the perfect gift price.
Tom Warren did a while back. 20CUs at 1.55GHZ.
I think it is fascinating. No matter what, the Series S will be by quite some margin the cheapest option for next-gen. So what does Sony do? Do they try and price the digital edition to be no more than $100 more and risk losing tons of money with no pay off if people still opt for the cheaper option, or do they hold firm and have confidence in the brand and games line-up that people will continue to pick Playstation on mass.
Absolute mic drop, this will be sold out so fast. And being half the price of the competitor…
I think the problem between the PS5 and PS5 DE is that there is not much difference between the two. It is just a matter of disc drive, while the XSS and XSX have significance differences between them. Basically, you know why you are paying more for the Series X. However, if Sony makes the PS DE too attractive, the normal PS5 will literally lose all interest, and I’m not sure Sony wants that.
Depends on the calculation. If both consoles produce the same profit or loss then Sony would have no preference what sells more. But if the loss of the DE is greater than the loss for the full fledged model I am with you. While many argue the big difference in specs is an issue I always argued it is not because it should attract different customer groups. The decision what to buy is actually easier with such a big difference what to buy (within the same ecosystem). I am not talking about the decision about to buy a PS or Xbox, that is a different story.
I am sure Sony would want exactly just that, although in that situation you would have to ask why Sony would even bother releasing the disc based version.
