I would say it has to be done by NextGen as this will all be key then. Though I wonder why an interview now, perhaps just to clarify things before something major.
You would have to think that Schreier would be raring to sink his teeth into Spencer, but no, it goes to Dina Bass, because Bass lives in Seattle.
Yea I want an Xbox app that lets me play every game I own.
Console for main TV experience and an app for portable or other device types. Id game alot more.
Yeah, thatâs always going to be the issue. Console prices are most likely going up, so if youâre a person that buys both consoles, then you might remove next gen xbox from the equation. There are some must have games day one for me, but I can wait for most tbh.
Gamepass is nice, but itâs not a system seller for all. Next gen is going to be interesting because if it follows the path of this gen then you could legit wait 3 years into the cycle to upgrade. I assume most games will be cross-platform for 2-3 years into next-gen.
Anyway, it will be up to Microsoft how they want to market the console if they go down that path, but at the moment itâs not the case, but it could be heading into next gen
If it goes that way, you will also be paying more for everything Sony which will exaggerate your money problems. I already see that fanbases getting squeezed for no return.
For sure, thereâs many angles to look at. Thereâs no way PS+ remains the same price because theyâre going to see how much they can push their consumers. The price of games will most likely increase. I feel the best thing for many to do is wait and see. I assume next gen will be similar to this gen where theyâll make games cross gen for the first 3 years, so you can always evaluate
I understand if a person doesnât want to purchase games due to uncertainty, but I feel itâs best to wait and see. Then decide which route you want to go. I donât think youi can just build a gaming PC becuase itâs quite costly and stuff like steamdeck or switch 2 most likely doesnât have enough power to satisfy most.
The way I see it The Xbox app will at some point become the full Xbox platform only digital. I also think when that happens they might stop porting games to Sony and Nintendo and instead offer them a native Xbox app that has everything that way they wouldnât have to build different versions or optimize for different consoles. They will simply make sure the Xbox app on the different devices is tailored to those hardware and ecosystems.
I think consoles will shrink further NextGen perhaps handheld will be the thing. I donât see a NextGen console being anything less than a thousand dollars. That will certainly limit the userbase and as we know cheap is where most run. I think handhelds will become dominant NextGen especially seeing their Operating systems are more akin to smart phones and tablets. Xbox is certainly going to push their handheld in the mobile direction the interview pretty much says it and that means itâs probably going to have a camera to push social media apps and might be pushing for space in that Mobile market. I think within a year you will be seeing or hearing of Sony going multiplatform as well. I donât think their sales are that great now adays.
MBL is on Xbox to do with rights to the sport. Destiny isnât a good example IMO since it was multiplatform and the roadmap for BUNGiE was in place before the buyout, much like id . W never ever saw any outcry with Doom Dark Ages or like how Mindcraft has always been multi-platform even after Microsoft buy out of Mojang over 10 years ago and long before Xbox looked to bring its IP over to SONY
Letâs leave those to one side since they no doubt they have Legacy rights/issues attached to them
I very much doubt we will see an official release for major mainline entry to Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, Astro Bot or Grand Turismo on any Xbox console hardware EVER.
PC for sure and maybe SONY might look to bring the likes of Astro Bot to a Nintendo handheld, but never to an Xbox console
The last Uncharted game was 7 years ago (2017) so it almost seems irrelevant now, especially has it has elements which would need to be adapted for the Xbox remote.
Astro Bot typically reviews well but doesnât sale very well (the new one is currently at 1.5m), plus the fact that itâs literally a playable Playstation advert means it would unlikely ever come to Xbox.
Now the remaining 6 all have valid arguments and I think we will likely see LEGO Horizon come to Xbox after itâs poor metacritic ratings.
Halo, God of War, Forza, Fable, Starfield, Flight Simulator and Hellblade 2 are currently all exclusive to Xbox which is 7 (and Iâm missing some).
Assuming the rumour of the new Xbox supporting PC storefronts is correct, you will also be able to access those PS games via Steam (I currently own Horizon, TLOU, GoW, GoT and R&C on Steam).
It usually feels like Playstation has more because they money hat exclusive third party deals however I donât think the situation is as dire as you suggest.
If we get to a point where all Xbox first party games are on PS and no first party PS games (including Bungie/MLB) are on Xbox then I think we should start discussing which is the better platform for game availability.
Too busy on his next book for that. Wonder if his phrasing is so considered in those. Not going to buy one to find out though.
I suspect a new Drakes game is in the works the issue for Naughty Dog is theyâve raised the bar so high it must be a massive project to outdo the last one. New games take time weâve seen nothing from RARE since Sea of Thieves since 2018 and any skilled developed can quickly readapt gimmicky control sections.
Donât look to count Lego Horizon as a mainline entry in the series myself and itâs not even developed by Guerrilla Games I donât foresee any of SONYâs major In-House IPs even coming to Xbox consoles not that I would want them, since Iâm not a fan of SONY or their games.
For me it devalues Xbox to see their games coming out on rival consoles. It may make perfect business sense and I get all that side of the debate, but itâs not a good look for the console brand of Xbox .
Still, if that means Xbox still can make its own consoles and stay in the console market. Itâs a price working paying. Iâve only ever gamed on Xbox consoles since SEGA pulled out of the console space
I understand where your coming from, however in an ideal world nobody would have games exclusive to a specific bit of hardware.
Can you imagine if you had to buy a new TV to watch Disney+ or Netflix - it would be ridiculous.
I think itâs all just a case of wait and see. As I said above once the hardware line starts to vanish (which I think it will) both PS and Xbox need to be in a place where it makes sense to keep moving forward financially.
I personally think Xbox are in a much better place (right now) than PS for that transition.
When that hardware restriction is gone things like GamePass will make Xbox invaluable to gamers and if everything moves to an âappâ I know which app I will be using most.
PS: I was also a SEGA transfer. The Dreamcast is/was still my favourite console of all time.
Like my Gran would say, Life is unfair.
I donât like the look of Xbox games appearing on a rival console and Xbox getting nothing back in return (guess revenue counts) but if it means Xbox stays in the console hardware sector itâs a price I can live with and accept.
I just canât understand why the Series X hasnât sold better or at least outdone the Xbox One other than the aera of marketing itâs such a better console than the PS5 or the old Xbox One or PS4.
Nice to see I was not the only one who made the transfer from SEGA to Xbox. The 2001 Xbox just felt like a Dreamcast 2 in so many ways. I never looked or wanted to game on any other console other than Xbox since the move over ![]()
I agree remember years ago when you had HD-DVD and Blu-ray competing for the dominant space and different studios had to go with one of the 2 before Blu-ray became the dominant of the 2 and now itâs the standard. I think this is where gaming is headed and should have been. If you had a universal standard where different manufacturers can make their own hardware that plays everything the market would grow or expand as you will have hardware that plays games all over the world by different companies.
Xbox is just seeing the future. Sony will follow. Their money hats are being rejected more and their exclusive IPs are not strong enough to sustain their brand. Even their games are beginning to fall off on PC so I guarantee you they will bring more games to Xbox even Spencer said he sees less exclusives in the future for either. Donât be surprised if they bring Spiderman to Xbox.
I donât see it myself and just Xbox fans talking like that to make themselves feel better by saying this is the future.
My own take on it, is having a studio work on a game for 5 to 8 years for a single title is the issue and totally unsustainable.
I hope you are right mind
If Iâm totally honest with you I donât expect to see many Playstation games on Xbox in the near future either (they will eventually IMO), so I donât see it from the mindset that itâs to make me feel better.
However going back to my original point, if you start looking at them as ecosystems (like Netflix and Disney etc) rather than hardware it all starts to make sense IMO.
Xbox are trying to transition gamers to the mindset of Xbox is everywhere, because eventually it will be (so will PS). Just like you can access Netflix on your TV, Phone, Tablet, PC or any other smart device right now (directly alongside their competitors like Disney and HBO).
Why does it matter about the hardware (or exclusives) if you can access them all (PS, Nintendo and Xbox) from the same device? You just open the relevant app to access their content. When this all happens it will no longer be a console war but an âapp warâ where they are all fighting for gamers to spend their time on their respective app regardless of the hardware (again the same premise that Netflix and Disney have).
If I put my conspiracy hat on a moment, I personally think they will go back to exclusives in the future (bear with me)! When this transition eventually happens I think they will become much more selective with what stays in their ecosystem/app (rather than what they are doing now). I say this because their Xbox app will also be everywhere that the PS and Nintendo apps will be so there will be no need to have their content on the other âgamingâ apps (it would be the equivalent to GP currently being available on the millions of PS/Nintendo consoles).
When this inevitable app war happens the defining feature will be content, so Xbox can make many of the biggest game franchises exclusive to their Xbox âappâ which will make it much more inticing (especially with GP) over using a competitors app (PS or Nintendo).
By growing all their IPâs now and putting them everywhere when that transition happens, people will still want to play those game franchises so they will be forced to use the Xbox app instead (4D chess).
As I said in my other post just think of it as Netflix and Disney now. The main reason people go to those subscriptions are because of their content, whether that be Marvel or Stranger Things. Xbox are setting themselves up to be the default gaming app by owning all the biggest gaming franchises.
This was said before Sony started porting to PC. Then was said before Sony did day one on PC. Then said before Sony put Horizon on Switch.

People seem to look over SONY used to port their games to the PC in the PS1 era and also once had its own PC division with SONYâs VAIO range before it sold the brand off.
SONY looking to PC isnât that new
