That’s basically what their doing plus trying to recoup the money they spent on Activision.
Over the last almost four years since I have owned my Xbox Series X, I simply prefer to play games on Xbox and prefer what Microsoft offers over Sony. Don’t get me wrong, I will always own a PlayStation console because I love the majority of Sony’s published games but when it comes to Xbox, there’s simply way more beneficial aspects for me.
The ability to use the Xbox One controller is great for me as I simply prefer it over the Series X controller and at least for me, is the best pure basic no gimmicky bullshit controller ever.
Game Pass. As long as they give me their games day one on Game Pass, im good even at $20 a month (even though I paid $15 a month for a year’s worth via Amazon a month ago) but I do wish they had a higher tier that included their expansions or at least if/when they eventually get to $25 a month for Ultimate.
Ubisoft+ is only on Xbox consoles as of now and this is a huge benefit because im a subscription guy first and foremost. Give me your games day one on a subscription. Don’t care about ownership or collections.
Refunds. Refunded 3 or 4 games already this year and while there is a quantity or monetary limit (I don’t know which it is) in how many games you can refund in a calendar year, it’s great to have this option.
Free Cloud Saves. This has saved me numerous times this generation because I’ll drop a game for whatever reason and uninstall it but when I go back to it, my cloud save is right there waiting for me.
Backwards Compatibility. Since I have been changing my documents and going from a “generation” setup to a “company” (meaning Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo) setup, I have been recently going through Xbox and Xbox 360 games. Went through both consoles on a year by year basis using the lists on Wikipedia for North America. While Xbox is only two games (Halo 1 and 2), I have a whopping 15 games that I either just purchased or are on Game Pass. I may even increase this to 20 games but not 100% sure yet.
Discounts on games that aren’t in Game Pass even though im a Game Pass subscriber. Bought Max Payne 3 a few days ago for $7. To get 65% off was great. Granted, I won’t replay it (beat it when it launched) until the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes get dated, for $7, I couldn’t pass it up. Also bought Red Dead Redemption 2 ultimate edition for $30 even though I did refund this because I know im probably never playing this game.
EA Play included with Ultimate. This is just an extra perk. I rarely use it since they don’t do day one releases which sucks since they do that on PC but not console. But it’s nice to have in case I do want to use it at some point.
If anything, being and playing on Xbox has slowly been turning me into you Mort - im having a damn backlog, man!!! I need help!! lmao
But joking aside, Xbox is where I simply prefer to play games and in all honesty, even if at some point, Microsoft releases all of their published games on PlayStation day one, as long as the above stays intact, im not going anywhere.
I’m not against this. Just that tiny little boy in me is mad that this is a one-way street right now. Wish we’d have gotten GT for it or even some other ones like Sackboy or Detroit.
Yes. I’m at the bargaining stage it seems.
I think instead of looking at it was wanting a game back from them, the money earned can be used to fund additional Game Pass or even new projects.
For sure. I think my current setup of a Series X and a gaming laptop lets me cover most bases anyway. Like mentioned by others above, as long as AAA day ones are there in GamePass and the price doesn’t go above 20 USD a month for Ultimate, I’m locked in.
All very good points! Xbox is so much better as a main platform it’s not even funny.
And yes…
Because it didn’t stop everyone else from going wild posting their guesses.
That’s not how any of this business works. It’s asset acquisition.
Xbox Series consoles are the best kept secret of the console market right now for all the reasons that @peter42O stated above. I would also add some more great features like being able to have various (actually good) 3D audio options and proper VRR that works in all games without the need of additional work by the developers. Plus Xbox has a very good run so far in terms of software with some really awesome games (also sadly underrated and overlooked) so the BS that “Xbox has no games” or “Xbox games are mediocre” for anyone with a working non-Cultist brain should sound utterly stupid by now.
Now about the lack of marketing from Xbox especially here in Europe, until recently I was in the camp of “they aren’t trying enough” but I’ve realized that if people who want a good console to play games blindly like sheep go and buy a PS5 without taking the time to do a proper research (in a world where everyone is looking at their phones more than looking around them) before spending 500e+ then maybe MS marketing Xbox IS wasted money and a lost cause.
About the rumored FH5 at this point I don’t care at all? let the ponies play an excellent racing game (they haven’t in ages) and ideally MS will invest some of the pony money for more Xbox games. As long as their MAU console numbers aren’t going down and continue to make and support their consoles I think everything will be OK…so people should relax and play a lot of games instead of feeding the drama and the clickbait BS from the usual suspects.
Like I said I look more at those going for this shows, people promoting that excitement online. I don’t see many of them promoting or building excitement over Game pass. Besides I get all that on PC. I’m looking more at the console experience.
This sounds just like PC. Xbox certainly is a solid console. I just think the multiplat direction makes more sense and work with the hybrid console.
@Jez has put out an article about the rumor
I know it’s probably been said before, but recouping isn’t exactly how it works. All MS did was exchange 80B for ABK the so money or asset isn’t gone for it to be made back up. What is expected is that the 80B on ABK bring in more money than if it was spent/invested elsewhere. Revenue and profit needs to grow in whatever expected amount.
These corporations aren’t trying to collect cash, the goal is to perpetually increase the amount of money they are making. The purpose to make money is only to spend it so they can make more. This is why you don’t see corporations just keep the status quo and make steady profits. It’s always about “growth” and needing to show they made more this tracking period than the last one by any means necessary.
With Xbox it isn’t necessarily about beating Sony like it’s a game. Yes trying to take market share away from Sony would be a normal course of action but Phil has spoken on this. The gaming market has stagnated because Sony/MS/Nintendo have been just working against each other over the same pool of users who have mostly chosen their ecosystem and are sticking with it. Phil has said he wants to grow the market which is in line with how corporations operate.
Xbox being in 3rd place just isn’t seeing the exclusivity model where they spend billions trying to slowly scrape away users from Sony as worthwhile.
When we see the next Xbox we’ll have a better idea of where they are actually going.
A lot of words to say nothing lol. Jez article that is.
It says that it’s not FH5 being announced as a port next week. Goes against the tease from extas1s, who also clarified that he believes FH5 is being done whether it’s announced next week or not.
I wonder if they have like a minimum word count or something lol
Yes, we all do. You need to be at or above 300 words before Google will pay attention to your article. We have no choice but to pad things out if necessary.
This is definitely the play; you need to keep your IPs strong or else all the acquisitions become worthless. Esp. when the competition has the benefit of being everywhere, I’m talking about just normal games from 3rd parties here.
For ex. Crew Motorfest unashamedly copied FH, and even though it’s not the same quality, there is a possibility with enough time and improvement that they could one day become bigger just by being multiplatform and not necessarily being better than FH.
Games like Helldivers and Halo infinite face a handicap vs other 3rd party games. Exclusivity doesn’t make any sense for live service games.
There is value in exclusive single player games though. But Xbox seems to think that owning healthy IPs will pay off in the long run, where games will become exclusive to their cloud service etc.
That’s for the additional context, makes much more sense now.
