You even have the former lead of FH5 leaving Playground to start up a studio and make his own similar game lol
I know a Microsoft announcement of porting something to PS or Switch is never going to generate a positive reaction from Xbox fans but damn it seems certain insider(s) have interesting timing when it comes to dropping their cryptic teases (why say anything if youâre not going to name the game?). Always close to showcases or when the fanbase is relatively calm/chill. Given how much they seem to know I wonder why they never teased FF16 was coming to Xbox, just eager to tease the more ânegativeâ stuff I guess.
Iâm personally at the point where Iâve accepted the strategy but find myself more curious how the games perform and kinda hope they do well in a way. Grounded is brilliant and deserves all the love and itâs nice seeing Sea of Thieves doing well and Rare getting more respect on their name again. FH5 would do monster numbers 100%, but the one Iâd be most curious about is how Starfield would perform on PS5.
The shitty discourse around the game has given it something of a mixed reputation rather than it being seen as a must have âkiller appâ like perhaps was expected prior to release but if Shattered Space knocks it out the park then who knows, sentiment around the game may change and it could end up doing strong numbers on PS5 if that got potted at some point
Another Xbox title is going to light up the PS5 charts after Sea of Thieves. Definitely a powerhouse in gaming like no other!
Last news about that game was that it was narrative driven, so it might be a bit different. But the point still stands, exclusivity puts you at a disadvantage. These companies want continuous growth, and keeping stuff exclusive means less growth, something even Sony has changed their stance on btw.
One day even PS will exhaust growth from moving to PC, so what next? day one releases? exhaust growth from that too? then what? release on other consoles? see where this is going
Hellblade 2 being the game would make sense - itâs done all it can on Xbox / PC now, and the first one performed well on PlayStation.
And they probably want to cash in while itâs still fresh.
FH5 seems unlikely after Jezâs article but dropping it next week would sure be one way to smother any coverage of Concord - not that that game needs much help to bomb, I suspect
I really doubt theyâre worried about Concord lol. They donât need to do anything to smother that game.
As for the rumor, Iâm sure FH5 and really any big game will be on PlayStation at some point, donât care for the direction overall but weâll see what happens I guess.
First reaction : yeah itâs bad. Then I thought about it and ask myself : why do I care ? Itâs like a 4-5 years old game now ? If people didnât buy an Xbox for it, they arenât intersted in Xbox, so maybe theyâll be tempted when itâs on their platform of choice.
The thing is all of this is additive.
Yes it is a years old game but picture a situation (lazy example ahead) where someone loves car games and wants to buy a console. On Xbox they get Forza, on PS now gets Forza + GT. No matter how old the game is, albeit at a slower pace, but people still buy next gen consoles. Heck, even many people are on last gens.
Every game you port to other console is a reason you eliminate to buy yours instead.
Lol yeah I wasnât thinking they were worried about Concord, more than Sony would really not enjoy FH5 coming over at the time Concord was releasing - itâs already got enough competition from Valorant and the new Overwatch season.
Hellblade 2 if Jez has ruled out FH5 for now makes the most sense to me, but yeah Iâd not be surprised to see it there eventually given the amount it would sell.
However given the age of FH5 Iâd imagine theyâd have to redo the licences if they did - FH4 is already being delisted because of them and if 5 had a similar period then it would be delisted after only 2 maybe 3 years on PSâŚ
get it on Switch - total Horizon world domination baby!
Did you miss me? My last post was on July, sĂł about a month, do you know how to count? I read the forum just cant engage everyday like you do, people have jobs and a life outside here, if their game is an irrelevant old GaAs that needs constant support why port the game though?
That revenue doesnt mean much if they feel they need to recoup their spending after all most of the revenue came from ABK and estabilished IPs from them which made most of their money on other platforms, MS owns them but Xbox isnât doing anything they cant even advertise COD on gamepass.
Agreed, everyone seems to say how lovely Shinobi is for example but this kind of crap seems designed to just cause bad feeling in the Xbox community ahead of a big event.
And yep same happened before the June showcase - given how far off many of those âleaksâ were for that one, Iâm really thinking most of these âinsidersâ are simply making educated guesses (like the rest of us on here can do) and stir up shit when they want more engagement.
Overall my opinion of all these âinsidersâ now is they can fuck off - the Xbox community already has to put up with the shit from PlayStation console warriors driving by every comments section (often with fake sympathy or outrage) and weâre more than capable of doom mongering all by ourselves without those arseholes making things worse!
Now that youâre pointing it outâŚthis is again some interesting timing indeed. They try to âbalanceâ this with some âgood newsâ about Xbox here and there, like when they said that Gears E-Day will look amazing (that was a very hard prediction right thereâŚ) but as you said someone with enough experience on the industry that also follows the news closely could easily become a credible âinsiderâ nowadaysâŚyou throw shit around all the time and if something doesnât stick wellâŚâplans change guys!â.
Back on topic about Xboxâs multiplatform plans, the industryâs true problems IMO are much bigger than a platform holder putting their games on other platforms. Rising development costs, customer (especially youngsters) buying habits/tastes changing and going towards the few big (addictive and filled with shitty/predatory practices) f2p GAAS games while we see more and more excellent games flop or recouping their costs becoming even more difficult each year and big publishers becoming more and more safe are the real issues that the industry is facing and we should care about which should be the overall quality of the software going forward.
Kids nowadays asking their parents for virtual currencies instead of a brand new videogame (in a time where there is a plethora of great games available with also various pricing options like indies) is a much bigger problem than a 3 year old 1st party game going multiplatform IMO.
I see the console warriors are still alive and well.
People really donât want to learn, do they?
This is an important point. Also, if/when FH5 does amazing numbers on PS5 it will most likely make Microsoft suits question why isnât FH6 launching on PS5. Its a gamble that will most likely work for Microsoft, but it will impact xbox hardware imo. Forza Horizon franchise is a console seller imo
Unfortunately most folks here do not see the issue here, which am glad you pointed out. This oozes greed in favor of long term benefits for hardware. I would say this kills hype for the hardware, like say all you want about gamepass but without exclusives its not really something to be happy about especially since there no doubt thereâs gonna be another price increase and folks will start to see what i mean when i say Microsoft are only thinking of increasing profits on the short term instead of looking at the bigger picture.
Now to i blame just Phil for this? No, i blame Satya, Amy and Phil for thinking this will be great for hardware users. New flash it wonât, in fact chances are next gen may be the last gen before Xbox is no longer a good product since other consoles have their products.
But please tell me this is not this? Cause it sure as hell feels like it. Heck i have to wonder if every game launches directly to their competitors since Xbox clearly does not care about their hardware since they wanna dip for others, as Phil seems to be catering to playstation and nintendo users.
I will however admit Matt Booty is aware of the stress compared to his compatriots, so at least someone seems to know.
We all see the issue, we just donât see it as an issue. Every game they release on PC reduces the need for people to buy consoles, introduction of a streaming only tier of Game Pass will reduce the need for people to buy consoles, apps on fire sticks reduces the need for people to buy consoles.
The sooner that you guys accept that console is just one of many end points for Microsoft games and services the better. The console is not the center of the universe and people are having a really hard time accepting that.
FWIW, their moves are for the long term not the short term. Itâs a long term strategy that recognizes the shrinking hardware business and expands software and services to as many screens as possible.
While I get your point, I donât really think selling games on other platforms is the play here and I donât believe it generates that much revenue. I think this third party idea is more pandering towards building a reputation to be able to buy more and maybe grow the market. The play will be their store. I do agree they canât mess with the hardware too much now as itâs what is used for controlling and staying valuable. If they lose the hardware, they will be in a similar position they face with mobile where you have a duopoly that dictates everything and is bent on not allowing them access. Xbox now is experiencing several issues setting up a Mobile app that functions, something they wouldnât have if they were still in the phone business.
I play video games, not hardware
Itâs an endpoint indeed but right now it is the most important and is more or less the foundation of the whole Xbox structure. It might not be in the future but right now it is. If the whole console base for Xbox was to leave the business would fail. There is no amount of sales from other platform that could cover their business also Game Pass would struggle maybe not even exist. They would run into thesame issue they have when they shut off the Mobile division. This just ended up creating a duopoly that is making their move to mobile gaming very difficult. If they had their Mobile phone division this wouldnât be much of an issue.
