I don’t see either coming any time soon sadly.
My friends will have to settle for the occasional Fortnite game once every 3 months. lol

Agreed. Phil is being careful with his words. The ‘no red line’ comment allows people to hear what they want to hear, without actually being committal to anything.
It’s no secret that ‘exclusive games, for platforms where Game Pass exists’ and ‘Starfield console exclusive’ was ammo for regulators during the ABK trial. If they want to pursue future acquisitions, it’s in MS/Xbox best interest to use language like ‘no red line’.
If anything, what COD (and to a lesser extent Sea of Thieves and Grounded) has proven is that the multiplatform strategy of Game Pass (Xbox/PC), PlayStation, Nintendo, Steam and Cloud can work.
I do not see the strategy too dissimilar to Apple, Amazon, and Google putting their services/content on other devices.
True, it’s a continuation of the messaging, but I wonder, do they believe an ambiguous case-by-case is better messaging? Because if they were clear, maybe some people will make decisions based on that, but ambiguity keeps them undecided at least. I don’t know which positive/negative potential that has compared to clarity.
The platform is doing the best it ever has, I doubt they change anything. “Case by Case” is the most honest answer they can seemingly give, right now.
Yeah, if Forza Halo Gears are to ever happen they would likely be in later, later stages of this project when the industry has moved a bit more maybe.
I would be right there with you if Game Pass didn’t exist. Luckily it does. If I were to go PS5 exclusive, I would be forking over $100+ CAD per game, plus another $100+ a year for PS+ Essentials.
Yes, the platform is doing its best numbers-wise, but we know perception and messaging/pr wise it’s not, so there gotta be a little concern to them with time that those also start affecting the platform numbers-wise as well. I know right now it doesn’t, and in fact seems the opposite, but what if? you know. And the problem is the negative perception is always happening, so who’s to say the project latitude thing even has much to do with it in reality. It’s essentially really complicated to figure out what is affecting what, and people paid millions should figure it out, hopefully
Our negative perception doesn’t seem to actually matter for their bottom line, so I doubt they care that much.
Nice to see Xbox making it clear what its plans are
As I said, it doesn’t seem to actually matter now, I know, but there’s gotta be the “what if?” question, if this negative coverage of the platform remains, and seems driven by this project now, can it and will it affect the platform to a point where it matters?..
They aren’t going to port everything and I don’t think they can even if they wanted to. Porting does cost money maybe not a lot and it also requires a lot of time. Ubisoft with their over 20,000 plus developers can hardly manage 2 to 4 games a year so i doubt Xbox could besides most of their teams aren’t built for multiplatform. SOT seems to be taking more time now that they have PlayStation which they contracted to another studio. Though no red line means whatever they think is best. If they could port everything over to PS it would cost you a fortune to get them over there not to mention there is no real security there, I would say do yourself a favor and move over to PC now. Less need for worry there.
Well, Game Pass also cost money so that I would just switch for PS+. This year I would have spent $50 on Hellblade 2, with the added bonus of owning the game…
I’m a patient gamer and rarely feel the need to jump at (often broken) games day one and buy most games on deep sales, patched up and content complete. A lot of the games I do feel the need to play right away are not in Game Pass anyway.
Add in the money I’d save by only needing one console (the PS5 Pro is $1000 here) next gen, that’s a lot of games.
I would hate to leave the Xbox consoles behind, as it is a much nicer user experience than PS though.
I think it depends, the negative perception could certainly affect them, but I think they’ve been very careful with disseminating information and i would say it’s more controlled.
I left PC gaming for consoles, not eager to go back.
Honestly, good, MS needs to make more money for its studios to be sustainable and to keep growing, with the console section shrinking in HW sales, multiplatform is the obvious way to go.
Now release stuff like Avowed ASAP on Playstation too, make as much money as possible and get a bigger budget for their next game.
Sucks for Xbox (the console), specially since it’s been my platform since day 1, like 23-24? years ago already, but in my opinion it has reached a point of no return, now it’s a niche product in Europe too and there’s no way it can sell decently anymore when it’s only relevant in the US (and even there it’s on the third position)
If anyone wants to read the Bloomberg article (without subscription) you can read it via this link:
Everyone’s buying habits are different. The point I was making, was for my personal use case, I would need to pay for PS+ Essentials because I need online. Game Pass Ultimate on the other hand includes that.
OR
Just this year alone I would have purchased:
That’s approximately $400 in games in 2024. Next year doesn’t look any different for me with Doom, South of Midnight, COD 2025, etc.
Point being, I’ve done the math and there just isn’t a scenario for me where it would make sense to move over exclusively to PS5 in a world where Game Pass exists. Just for fun I made a 5-year breakdown:
Xbox: $500 (console)+ $1,200 (GPU) = $1,700 vs PS5: $500 (console) + $1,050 (3 x Games per year) + $400 (PS+ Essentials) = $1,950
Maybe it’s time Xbox went back to Games for Windows or MS studios and drop ‘Xbox’ since that’s sadly what most look like they want and for MS to go back to the PC
I have no idea how you can logic that out from the current situation
Yes indeed. We all have our own points where things make- or doesn’t make sense anymore.
